2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

The engine light came on. It was inspected and there is a coolant intrusion. Apparently, this was a known issue for this engine. There is an existing technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-2229 and a Ford customer satisfaction program (csp) 21n12 related to this issue the program indicates up to 7 years or 84k miles, which I believe this falls under (my mileage is 42k) providing a one-time repair program providing a no-cost short block replacement.  Ford is not cooperating.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 09/17/2025

Check engine light came on. The engine has coolant intrusion and the engine would have to be replaced, quoted me $17,240. 83 I called 888-214-2155 Lincoln client relationship center and I was told there was nothing they can do to help me. After doing some research, this has been a known problem by Lincoln and they have not put out any recalls. They also have a class action lawsuit against them.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 09/08/2025

I got out of work and went to start my car. At first it did not want to start, and it acted like the alarm system had an issue. I locked my car, then unlocked it with the key fob, and when it started, it ran rough and was smoking out of the exhaust. I turned it off and quickly checked the fluids. I noticed the antifreeze was low, and since I always carry fluids in the car, I filled up the reservoir and then tried to restart my car. It did the same thing, not wanting to start until I locked and unlocked with the key fob. I drove home, but the check engine light was on the entire time. The following morning, I started my car and it was blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. I turned it off and contacted a local auto repair shop. It had to be towed to the shop so as to not cause damage. The auto shop said it was the head gaskets and since there was a known problem with the coolant leaking, I would have to get a whole new (used) engine. The total would be over $8000. I called another repair shop to see if they would be willing to replace the head gaskets, and after they agreed, I had it towed to their shop. After diagnostics, (no negligence on my part) this shop also refused to just replace the gasket citing an ongoing class action lawsuit due to a known head failure, and the repair with a new engine would be over $9000. I had purchased an extended warranty (power train) when I purchased this vehicle, and it included seals and gaskets. . . So I thought I was covered for this problem. The warranty company refused to cover it since it was a head problem. I still have 2 years of payments left on this vehicle.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/30/2025

I am writing regarding my 2018 Lincoln Mkc, VIN # [xxx] which is experiencing clear symptoms of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. These include low coolant levels, white exhaust smoke, engine misfires, and a rough-running condition. According to **technical service bulletin 19?2346** (NHTSA id 10169807, dated December 20, 2019), this issue is a known defect affecting Mkc models with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine and recommends replacement of the long?block assembly to correct the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Coolant leak, no warning overheating car turned off, needs new engine, coolant leak into cylinder ,only 62000 miles on the car.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/18/2025

At 85,000 miles I was experiencing a grinding noise coming from my front end when making sharp turns to left or right. Took car to my mechanic immediately for diagnosis. They found the motor mounts and rear differential is binding and close to failure. My mechanic contacted fomoco to see about a replacement for the rear differential and was told that there were not any available due to a redesign of the product. He was asked to check back in two weeks! two weeks w/o my transportation! I replaced the motor mounts, (85kmi?) after researching on line, several Ford & Lincoln sites the problems I am experiencing are not unique or infrequent on Lincolns and Ford edges. It would seem to me that these problems are frequent enough to have the manufacturer ininitiate a recall on these products! my mechanic also works on our sherriff department vehicles and their Ford edge units are experiencing same problems. I would hope these problems will initiate an investigation into this matter!.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

While driving a short distance to work, my 2016 Mkc check engine light came on. The previous week I noticed that the engine hesitated slightly when it first started, but it drove normally. However, when the light came on, my husband took the vehicle to the dealership where we bought it in Dec 2019. We were shocked when we were told this was a very common problem with this type of engine, a 2. 0 eco boost, and that the engine would have to be replaced due to coolant intrusion, at the cost of $9300! the vehicle only has 57,000 miles on it and has always been maintained at prater Ford Lincoln in calhoun GA. After some research I've found this to be a very well documented problem/engine design failure. Ford and Lincoln have refused any assistance in this matter. The local dealership where we purchased it has told us they won't provide any assistance either. The vehicle is currently in the shop, and the engine is being replaced. It was supposed to be completed 5 days ago. Why hasn't there been a recall? even though there were no deaths or injuries in my case as well as the others on this site, the financial burden is immense! since this is such a well-documented problem, there should be a recall on the affected engines, or at the very least some assistance should be provided by Ford and/or Lincoln to the unfortunate owners of these vehicles. Thank you.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/09/2025

The engine light periodically came on. The coolant was low, but no evidence of a leak. We took the car into be evaluated and to was identified as error code p0304 for cylinder #4. The only way to repair is a new engine. The car has 71000 miles on it. During our research it was identified that this is a known issue to Ford, but this has not been acknowledged as a defect/recall. It was recommended to immediately repair as the engine can stop or the car can lose power /control while driving. The car is no longer under warranty. There are tons of reports of this issue, and 130 reported on this site. This is a danger to those driving or if something would happen on a highway, this could cause an accident at high speeds to the other cars trying to avoid a stopped car. Dealers recommend calling to complain to Ford to attempt to get resolution. And there is a class action lawsuit.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

Coolant intrusion into the cylinder causing overheating. New engine block required. Car has been regularly maintained. Failure occured with no warning.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

The vehicle has now been at the dealership for almost two weeks. I drove the car in under its own power and was shocked to learn that it needs a new engine (long block) due to a known issue described in a technical service bulletin (TSB) 19-2346 after doing my own research, I discovered that this is a widespread problem with the Ford 2. 0l engine, and the dealership confirmed this by stating they’ve replaced hundreds due to this defect. I then contacted Ford directly, but was told by customer service that the vehicle is out of warranty, and nothing could be done. The Ford case number is [xxx]. Let me be clear: this is not normal wear and tear. A major engine failure at only 63,000 miles is completely unacceptable — especially in a certified pre-owned (cpo) vehicle, which I was sold as reliable transportation. I now realize that Ford and its dealers have been knowingly selling vehicles with a manufacturing defect, without taking responsibility when those vehicles inevitably fail. This is a documented defect in the engine block, as acknowledged by Ford in the TSB. Yet there is no recall. Why? this issue poses a serious safety risk, not to mention a massive financial burden for consumers who trusted Ford’s certification and quality standards. It is deeply concerning that Ford has chosen to avoid accountability, leaving owners like myself to pay for expensive repairs stemming from your own design flaw. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

Engin light came on, was diagenosed as coolent leaking in spark plug , or bad head gasket.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

I have a 2018 Lincoln Mkc with the well known coolant intrusion complete engine failure. I need a new long block at a cost of 9500 dollars. I had no warning light or check engine light to warn me about this issue prior to taking it to Ford dealer in buellton to ask why coolant was emptying so fast. I had previously taken it to Lincoln dealer while under warranty and was told no issues. Even though they had a specific service bulletin stating the problems I was having. I feel my safety was at risk because I drive alone into sketchy areas for my job and my car could have just stopped and I would be an elderly woman alone with a broken down car waiting for a tow. It also could have possibly caught on fire I’m told. Lincoln concierge was no help. Said it was VIN specific and not enough vehicles affected to warrant a recall. Mechanic at Ford says 3 to 4 vehicles a month are being repaired at his shop and they are a rural dealership. I think we are all being fleeced. We spent 40000 plus for a luxury reliable vehicle. We still have car payments. Can’t use as trade in. Can’t afford to buy another car. I can’t do my job. The stress alone may be dangerous for my health. Pending lawsuit won’t begin until June of 2026. This is so wrong.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

Coolant is leaking into the cylinders and could cause the engine to seize while driving. The issue was identified at a Ford dealership and is a known issue on this engine and has been admitted by Ford/Lincoln as a problem. The only warning was a check engine light which appeared after the problem existed and only fix is to replace the engine. Ford/Lincoln did not make any attempts to notify owners in advance of this issue so it could be checked. There are still many of these engines on the road which could seize at any time and cause tragic results.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

I own a 2017 Lincoln Mkc 2. 0l ecoboost that suffered a complete engine failure caused by coolant intrusion into the combustion chambers. The vehicle began to misfire, emit thick white smoke, lose power, and quickly became almost undriveable. Technical service bulletin (TSB) 19-2346 (June 2019), which describes coolant entering cylinders due to a flaw in the cylinder head/block design. This failure is not the result of neglect or normal wear and tear — my vehicle has been maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. Despite this, the engine requires complete replacement at a cost of approximately $9,500. The failure occurred well before what should be the normal service life of an engine, and it matches the same defect pattern reported by many other Lincoln and Ford owners with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine in multiple model years. The coolant intrusion defect creates a serious safety hazard because it can cause sudden, unpredictable loss of engine power while driving. If the defect manifests at highway speeds, the driver may experience immediate power loss, inability to accelerate, or complete engine shutdown — increasing the risk of a collision. Ford/Lincoln have issued internal bulletins to dealers acknowledging this problem but have not initiated a public recall. Many owners have been denied coverage due to warranty expiration, despite this being a manufacturing defect. The result is that numerous vehicles with a dangerous and well-documented engine flaw remain in circulation without corrective action. I believe this defect warrants investigation as it poses both a safety risk to drivers and passengers, and a broader consumer protection concern. Premature catastrophic engine failures on relatively low-mileage vehicles undermine public trust and place owners in severe financial hardship. An NHTSA investigation could compel Ford/Lincoln to issue a recall to address this hazard before more vehicles experience unsafe sudden failure.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

Engine light came on. Took it to mechanic. Was told there is a well documented mechanical issue affecting my 2017 , Mkc. My vehicle is experiencing a misfire and cylinder three accompanied by signs of colon intrusion into the engine, as well as transmission slippage. I have heard these are known and widespread issues in 2015 to 2019 Lincoln Mkc models equipped with the 2. 0l eco boost engine. I am aware of several technical service bulletins, including TSB 19-2346 and tbs 22-2229, that detail this defect. Numerous lincon customers have reported identical issues at similar mileage, often requiring full engine or transmission replacement. My trusted mechanic has verified that my vehicle exhibit symptoms consistent with this engine defect.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/29/2025

On or about July 29, 2025, the check engine light illuminated in my 2019 Lincoln Mkc sport with a 2. 0l ecoboost engine. A mechanic inspected the vehicle on August 4, 2025, and confirmed coolant is entering cylinder one, likely due to a blown head gasket or, less likely, an engine block crack. Symptoms include coolant loss, potential misfiring, and the check engine light activation. The issue was identified through diagnostic testing (e. G. , borescope inspection or compression test, pending specific results). No external coolant leaks were observed, indicating an internal engine failure. The vehicle has 89,516 miles and was purchased three months ago on may 5, 2025, from Ford city in champaign, illinois. Safety concerns: coolant intrusion into cylinder one risks engine misfiring, rough idling, or sudden power loss, which could cause engine stalling or failure during operation. This poses a serious safety hazard, as it may lead to loss of vehicle control, particularly at highway speeds or in traffic, endangering the driver, passengers, and other road users. The defect compromises the reliability of the 2. 0l ecoboost engine and requires costly repairs. Additional context: • no known history of severe overheating exists, but maintenance records prior to purchase are unavailable. • the vehicle has no aftermarket modifications. • no crashes or injuries have occurred, but the issue emerged shortly after purchase, suggesting a possible pre-existing defect. • similar coolant intrusion issues have been reported in earlier 2. 0l ecoboost engines (e. G. , 2013–2016 Ford models), and this may indicate a recurring defect in the 2019 Mkc. • I urge NHTSA to investigate whether this engine issue warrants a recall due to its potential safety impact.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

Dealer service technician states the a crack in the engine block is allowing coolant to enter the cylinder causing misfiring. This appears to require engine replacement with only 59000 miles on the vehicle. This is a common problem with the 2018 engine and could result in a fire.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 83,000.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

I was told by my Lincoln dealer that I need to replace the engine on my 2017 Mkc. This is due to coolant intrusion issue that seems to be a very common problem with this model. I'm really disappointed, it's a very costly repair ($10,000 +) I only had 85,000 on the car. I was driving on a highway and the car completely shut down. They said the only repair is an engine replacement and are not willing to assist in the costs. The check engine light came on when the engine seized.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

I have a 2018 Lincoln Mkc with approximately 58,000 miles, always taken care of and maintained, in excellent condition. Almost immediately after my extended warranty ran out the check engine light came on and it started to start and idle rough. Took it to a Lincoln dealer, they replaced coil assembly # 4 and the 4 spark plugs, told me if it continues there might be coolant intrusion to the engine and the engine would need to be replaced. Check engine light came on 2 days later again, back to the dealership where they told me there was coolant intrusion and the engine will need to replaced. $8020. 00 estimate, Lincoln/Ford is aware of this defect in this engine, they should recall this engine and replace it.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

Check engine light came on at approx 54,000 miles with code of cylinder 2 misfire diagnosed as spark plugs and ignition coils need replaced. All spark plugs and ignition coils replaced may 11. June 23 check engine light on again with cylinder 2 misfire. Was told spark plugs and ignition coils need replaced again. July 9 spark plugs and ignitiion coils replaced. July 10 check engine light came on cylinder 2 misfire. July 11 car was diagnosed as needing engine replacement due to coolant intrusion causing rust in engine.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/06/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln Mkc. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/05/2025

My 2017 Lincoln Mkc has engine coolant leaking in to the #4 cylinder. On start-up the engine runs rough, and the check engine light is on. Lincoln/Ford has a technical service bulletin #22-2229 covering this issue. I believe this is a common problem involving a large number of these engines. Licoln/Ford will not pay for any replacement costs. I have spent $1414. 08 in an attempt to repair this problem. I believe this also causes my car not to be able to pass the ohio e-check.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

My 2019 Lincoln Mkc with a 2. 0l ecoboost engine experienced coolant intrusion into cylinder 2, leading to engine misfire, check engine light, and severe vibration. The dealership confirmed the issue and recommended a full long block engine replacement, estimated at over $11,000. This failure occurred at only 48,000 miles. This appears to be the exact issue described in Ford TSB 19-2346, which covers 2017–2019 model year vehicles with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine, including the Lincoln Mkc and mkz. The TSB acknowledges a design-related coolant leak into the engine cylinders that can cause white smoke, misfire, rough running, and warning lights. Ford’s recommended repair is to replace the long block assembly. I believe this is a widespread design defect and request NHTSA’s investigation to ensure proper manufacturer accountability.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

I purchased a 2017 Lincoln Mkc approximately 90 days ago and recently encountered a check engine light notification with the diagnostic code p303, indicating a misfire in cylinder three. After replacing the fuel injector on that cylinder and completing a tune-up, which included the replacement of all spark plugs and ignition coils, I consulted a new mechanic. They informed me of a potential issue related to engine block intrusion, which reportedly affected other 2. 0 l engines from Ford motor company within the 2015-2019 model years. As a result, I have been advised to consider replacing the entire engine. Given that I acquired the vehicle as a used model with only 43,000 miles and is now out of warranty, I am facing an out-of-pocket expense of nearly $8,000.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

Symptoms consistent with TSB 19-2346 for 2. 0l ecoboost engines: coolant in cylinders, white exhaust smoke and check engine light is on. I have to keep topping off the coolant weekly, engine light comes and goes with same errors. Went to a general mechanic who got error codes po301-00 and po316-00. Currently scheduled next week to see an engine mechanic. Available for inspection upon request. Has not put us in danger yet but is of major concern due to potential for failure, so we are having it seen to ASAP. We don't have a Ford dealership so nearby to go out there with a failing car just to have them verify that yes that is the issue and yes it will be a very expensive repair we could not afford if we did it with them. Despite very low mileage it is still past warranty date, so any goodwill would have to come after we go through the trouble of bringing our vehicle in and hoping for the best. We called and they couldn't even provide any kind of ballpark likelyhood of goodwill.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 06/12/2025

Only 69,000 miles and have engine failure. Car shut down on the highway and put me and my child in a very dangerous situation. Dealership diagnosed it as coolant intrusion into the engine. Seems to be a widely known problem with the Mkc. The engine now must be replaced and the cost is more than the car is worth.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln Mkc. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle was shuddering. The contact stated while driving approximately 30-35 mph, the message "engine overheating" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the coolant reservoir was empty. The mechanic added coolant to the vehicle and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion in the engine block. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,800.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln Mkc. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the #2 and #3 spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, two days after the repair, the check engine warning light illuminated again, and the engine started to overheat. The contact checked to coolant level and discovered there was no coolant in the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic and was inspected, and it was determined that the failure was best diagnosed by the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed additional diagnosis for coolant intrusion to determine if the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 05/15/2025

2018 Lincoln Mkc with 112,700 miles hesitating with accelerating. There have been no check engine lights activated. Took to Ford dealership for inspection and they found coolant level low and confirmed shuddering/jerking when accelerating. Found that cylinder 1 misfiring and upon further inspection found coolant intrusion in cylinder 1. Recommended long block replacement. I found that this year model with Ford ecoboost 2l engine has had frequent issues with the coolant leaking into cylinders due to poor design of this engine. Contacted Ford and asked for help with the cost to replace the engine block and was denied any assistance.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Lincoln MKC

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Lincoln MKC

Failure Date: 05/08/2025

I took my vehicle to rainbow muffler and brake due to my engine light on. I was told I had an evap leak and it may just be my gas cap. I don’t have a gas cap. They turned the light off and it stayed off for a while. A few months later I took it in and was told to do a smoke test. Smoke test showed I need a purge valve ($214 for part from dealer) and rainbow charged $105 to install. A few weeks later light returns, I take it back to rainbow. I’m told a tune up $$250. A few weeks later light comes back on. I’m told I needed coils $325. A few weeks later light is back on. I immediately called rainbow to be told, Lincoln knows there a defect but they aren’t acknowledging it. I filed a complaint with the bbb and my states attorney general office.
