1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2008 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

I am reporting a serious mechanical defect in my 2008 Lincoln Mkx involving the internal water pump. This vehicle uses the Ford 3. 5l v6 cyclone engine, where the water pump is mounted inside the engine and driven by the timing chain. My water pump failed unexpectedly, causing coolant to leak into the engine oil. This design flaw poses a serious safety risk due to potential engine failure while driving. This could lead to the engine seizing without warning, loss of power steering and braking, and increased risk of a crash. Ford and Lincoln are aware of this issue, and many owners have reported similar failures, but no recall has been issued. Repairs cost thousands of dollars and often require full engine replacement. This is a known design defect that puts drivers and passengers in danger. I urge NHTSA to investigate and mandate a recall before someone is seriously injured or worse. This failure is unpredictable, dangerous, and affects many vehicles using this engine platform.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2013 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

On two occasions I was on my way to church when the brake pedal went completely to the floor with no braking effect. I pumped the brake peddle several times and then in both instances braking was reestablished. These instances happened about a month and a half apart.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2016 Lincoln MKX

Failure Date: 12/17/2020

Yesterday, December 17, 2020, while backing from a parking space the brakes self-applied, no alarm sounded prior, and while not close to anything. I could let off the accelerator and the brake would release some. When straightened out and driving a short distance down the aisle it happened 2 or 3 more times and gave a red side warning light. Dead stops, accelerator felt hard to push. Happened both when cars were on the side(s) and none close at all. I got to the intersection with no cars close on all 4-sides. When I pulled into the intersection, it braked to a complete stop and refused to move. By playing with throttle and drive/park buttons, I got the car moving, I pulled into an open area and shut the car off, and restarted. I drove home, went through an 8-foot garage door, and parked with no more problems. This all happened in a walmart parking lot and exit lane. Due to the hard braking, if there had been cars behind or approaching a collision would have been possible if the other driver could not react to avoid my car.
