Electronic Stability Control Problems of Lincoln MKX

Lincoln MKX owners have reported 11 electronic stability control related problems since 1996. Table 1 shows the 1 most common electronic stability control problems. The number one most common problem is related to the vehicle's electronic stability control (11 problems). For details of each of the problem category, use the links in the table.

Electronic Stability Control problem #1

Vehicle states that it is not in park even though the gear shift is clearly in park. Passenger side climate control turns itself to lowest temp. Fogs windshield because of passenger side climate control issue. Driver side door says ajar even though door is closed.

Electronic Stability Control problem #2

While driving at normal highway speed's the engine shuts down with no throttle response or acceleration. The only option is to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. At that point the engine is at a very slow and rough idle with the orange service wrench and warning lights illuminated across the dash. To regain a throttle response, the operator must turn the vehicle off and restart it, this resets something for a short period of time. This is the fifth time that the vehicle has shut down during normal travel and it has been to the dealer with no codes found and no solution. I now consider this vehicle to be very unsafe after having this failure while being in the left lane passing a tractor trailer truck.

Electronic Stability Control problem #3

Put car in park and received a message on the dash saying "transmission not in park" but the gear shift was in park.

Electronic Stability Control problem #4

While driving, in city traffic, low oil pressure warning light came on and car stalled. Had to put car into neutral and restart. Pulled into a parking lot to check oil levels and it was fine.

Electronic Stability Control problem #5

We had our first incident on Aug 2 when my wife was driving. Car stalled at a traffic light and she restarted it . Transmission was in drive and she started to accelete to go ahead. The car itself went into reverse and almost hit the car behind her. She was extremely shaken and refused to drive it again. She called a towtruck to take it to our dealer. The dealer could not find the problem so installed an electrical device to record another incident. It then happended when I was driving, only 2 days after we picked it up from the dealer. I was driving on a 50 mph road when the "engine has shutdown" flashed on the instrument panel I got it restarted and tried to continue driving. About 10 different fault codes appeared and we took cell photos of each code. It shut down again a few miles later and this time all systems shut off. No lights no power on engine start. Totally dead I pushed all the shift buttons and after a minute it restarted. At this point we had it towed back to the dealer. Dealer has had it another 10 days and cannot find the problem. For our safety we refuse to take it back without the problem being solved and are now complaining directly to Lincoln.

Electronic Stability Control problem #6

Doors (driver side back door, passenger side back door) show door ajar warnings even when the doors are properly shut. This fault continues to run my battery down, and eventually forced me to purchase a new battery. I read similar complaints, and as a dedicated Ford brand purchaser I am very upset this issue was not recalled and corrected. The fault activates upon starting my vehicle or while driving. The lights continually staying on causes the battery to drain and eventually die!!! this is not a fault caused by owner error, and I strongly believe Ford should recall and replace the faulty door latch assemblies!.

Electronic Stability Control problem #7

Vehicle registers door adjar constantly. Causes dome lights to stay on even while driving, can't lock door, and battery goes dead. This is an issue! I saw there was an investigation but apparently nothing has been resolved. The problem started gradually and progressed to always. One time after the battery died I had a friend jump it and the cables started on fire! unsure if this is related but the 12volt plug in the dash stopped working and the heater ac hvac also went out previous to this. What a pain. . .

Electronic Stability Control problem #8

Doors fail to latch, with several reports indicating that the door ajar warning light on the dash appeared and cabin lights stays on while driving and stays on after closing doors! the only way to turn them off is to unplug battery! this is the 3rd time that I have been repairing different doors latch and I am surprised why car safety recall has not been issued yet on these models. It's very expensive to repair and it's a causing a major safety issue when driving night time with cabin light on and ajar warning system is off!!!! please note that same issue occurs every year with more than one door (2014/2015/2016/2017).

Electronic Stability Control problem #9

My vehicle has been losing power while I'm driving, leading to some very close calls on serious accidents. The "check engine" light will come on, and sometimes the "hill assist" message will also appear. Once power is lost, the vehicle loses power steering and literally shuts down; the accelerator does not work. I have to basically limp to safety. I took the vehicle into the dealership, and they found nothing, sending me away only for it to happen again. All 5 times this has happened, the vehicle was in motion on a city street, as I have avoided highways since the first time it happened. I've done extensive online research, and have found hundreds of others who have experienced the same issue.

Electronic Stability Control problem #10

While driving on the freeway car started jerking while pressing on the gas, then car began to slow down, and power shut down. So luckily I was able to pull over and avoid a accident. Sat for awhile then restarted the car and drove off. On another occasion, while trying to merge on to a freeway ,while trying to accelerate, car jerks and acts as if it wants to shut down. Also door sensors beep every time you get out of car, and you have to keep slamming doors in order for interior, lights to go off. Dash reads doors are still open. No power to my radio and cant even get my display screen to turn on.

Electronic Stability Control problem #11

Vehicle misfire and stall while driving caused by damaged power control module (pcu) and faulty/damaged ignition coil. Service bullitn issued: TSB 14-0059 mil on with dtcs - p0351, p0352, p0353, p0354, p0355, and/or p0356 - built on or before 3/1/2008 publication date: March 20, 2014.
