Lincoln MKZ owners have reported 6 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Lincoln MKZ based on all problems reported for the MKZ.
The electronic parking brake engages on its own and locks causing the rear tire to lock while driving which then causes friction and the tire to smoke heavily which could cause fire or bad accident. I have replaced caliper, caliper actuator, rotor, brake pad, wheel speed sensor, wheel bearing and nothing has fixed the issue.

The vehicle transmission shift is controlled by buttons to the right of the dashboard. The letters identify power on/off, r, dr. , etc. . The identifying imprints for each shift within a short time are erased, making it impossible to readily identify and engage in the appropriate gear or command. This poses a hazard when approaching a difficult traffic situation, when parking, or a safety issue when the power button is mistakenly turned off, when the reverse button is pressed when you are expecting to engage into drive. It's also important to note that the vehicle safety break is engaged through the transmission posing another safety issue.

My brakes stopped working with no warning while driving. All of the brake related lights came on and the pedal went to the floor and I was unable to stop the car. This is a safety issue for the driver and everyone else because there seems to be no warning that the brakes will stop working. I brought the vehicle into a repair shop and they could not find anything wrong with the brakes, however there are multiple reports on this website of the very same issue that I dealt with. When attempting to report this to the Ford/Lincoln manufacturing, they stated that their system was down and they had no way of taking a report. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed.

I tried to start my car this morning. It would not start. There was a loud popping noise, the headlights started flashing and a red box popped up on the control panel with the words brake failure. It was fine yesterday. There is a recall on the brake hoses. I called the dealership I bought the car from, oxmoor Ford, louisville, ky and they said they don’t service Lincoln products anymore and referred me to bill collins Ford. I called them this morning and they haven’t called me back. I do have aaa, so I can have the car towed to the dealership. I need my car, what do I do?.
Breaks suddenly stopped working. Lights on dash including abs came on. Car would not stop until pedal pressed almost to floor. Almost as quickly it started working again and our mechanic can not reproduce it. There a number (17) of other complaints describing the problem with more drama. (see 11403440 for one) incident happened three times, twice going forward and once backing up. Please recall this quickly before someone is killed.
My vehicle is having a difficult time breaking. Have changed rotors and breaks multiple time to remedy the problem as I have almost been in 3 accidents do to my breaks slipping. The sloping has occurred 2 times while driving on the freeway once in October 2020 and then again in January 2021 I was going 63 miles an hour and when I went to press on the brakes due to traffic approaching the vehicle had a hard time coming to a stop. I had my brakes and rotors re-done after the first incident in November 2020. Found out about the abs recall and have called Toyota/Lincoln numerous times of the last six months to inquire about the recall and fixture and have been told that there is no part or remedy available. I feel as though my safety and my children safety is a great risk of danger due to the and fixed safety issue as well as Toyota still not having a remedy to fix it.
