1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2023

When the foot was on the brake in stopped position, the accelator kept revving at high level. The only way to correct it the problem was to turn off the vehicle.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2021

When braking to stop there was sudden acceleration that braking could not control resulting in hitting the rear of a stopped car in front of me. This has happened in the past with no warning. It usually happens when braking, but not always. I have had the car to a Ford dealership twice with this problem. They claim they can find nothing wrong with the car. I took it into them today after this incident. They would not even look at the car. Said that Ford had no bulletins on this and said that I was on mu own. I see online that there has been a class action lawsuit against Ford about this. This could be a life-threatening problem. What do I do?.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

While driving my vehicle at approximately 45 mph on a local highway, there was an uncommanded movement of the foot pedal adjustment. The pedals retracted away from my feet to the maximum stop furthest away, which put them out of my reach and rendered it nearly impossible to activate the brakes or accelerator pedals. This nearly caused a loss of control accident, had I not disengaged my seat belt and slid forward under the dash to reach the pedals to stop the vehicle. I was subsequently able to use the control switch to move the pedals back into position.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

My 2006 Lincoln Town Car only has 45,000 miles on it and is kept in a garage. The first incident was with my family on vacation in south dakota. The gas pedal stuck down to the floor and the vehicle began accelerating by itself. We were on the highway and the vehicle speed reached 85 mph. The second time less than a year later my husband was pulling into our driveway and it did the same thing he turned off into the grass to avoid hitting our children and garage. Both times he had to reach down and manually pull up the gas pedal. Even hitting the brakes wouldn't stop it.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

When the brake was applied the car kept wanting to accelerate. I had to keep my foot on the brake and put the car in n then turn it off. I was stopping at a light. This has happened more than once with this vehicle.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

I put the car in reverse to backup. Then, with my foot on the brake, I place the car into drive goes forward. It continues forward for about a car length before it stops. The car has done this on several occasions. I fear for my life.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated while coming to a stop the vehicle independently accelerated while the brakes were depressed. 8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

While coming to a stop, car accelerated when brake was applied. Car continued to accelerate while standing on the brake, smoking the back tires. The brakes could not hold the acceleration and gradually pushed into the vehicle ahead that was stopped.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

On the 2006 Lincoln Town Car signature limited, the accelerator and brake pedals are adjustable. The pedals are close together, therefore, leaving little space between the brake and accelerator. When trying to stop, the brake and, unfortunately, accelerator pedals were both being pressed at the same time. This has almost caused accidents when trying to stop for my spouse and me. This has been a problem since the car was purchased in Feb 2006. The vehicle was not diagnosed or serviced. On June 3, 2014, I was leaving my driveway and saw a tractor-trailer coming down the road. Trying to stop, I pressed the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. I pressed on the brake harder to stop; however, I was also pressing on the accelerator harder. This caused a terrible accident between the tractor-trailer and me. I was air lifted to a trauma center. The truck driver was also injured. My vehicle was totaled. I consider the adjustable pedals a very dangerous problem and the owners of of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car signature limited with adjustable pedals should be made aware of this danger.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2014

Driver was parking Lincoln Town Car. Stepped on brake while putting car into park position. Car suddenly accelerated over concrete parking stop and slammed into an entrance to shopping center sign that was in front of the parking space. The car ended up with the front of the car against the sign and the rear wheels of the car up against the parking stop.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

My parents bought the car as a certified / pre-owned when it was 6 months old. Within the past six months the Town Car will suddenly try to accelerate, (or the engine will run up to the redline on the tachometer. ) it will literally spin the back tires while both the drivers feet are on the brake pedal. We are contacting the dealer this week. This is getting more and more often.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

While driving the car I was approaching a stopped vehicle at a stop light ahead of me. When I applied the brakes there was what seemed like a surge of power and I put both feet on the brake pedal and it was not going to stop. I bumped the vehicle in front of me quite hard but there was no damage but the driver was quite upset and I do not blame them. On the second occasion my wife was driving the vehicle and when she went to stop an intersection she said the brakes did not do anything and she felt that the engine was getting gas causing it to accelerate and she went right through the intersection. She said that it was a good thing there were no vehicles coming through the intersection or she would have been in an accident. The third incident happened last month when I was in a parking lot and I was pulling up to the curb when I applied the brakes. Again there was a surge of power. I took my foot off the brake pedal and reapplied the brakes and then they engaged but by then I had jumped over the curb. I have discussed this incident with the service manager at the Lincoln dealership in dade city florida and with the service manager at the Lincoln dealership in greenville michigan when I took my car today for a recall that I received in the mail about problems with the steering system and rust. I was told today that there has been no recall on brake issues and there was nothing wrong with the brakes at this time. This is our michigan car now and we are in michigan from may to November. We will be going to florida on November 18, 2013.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2011

Driving perhaps 30 miles per hour I suddenly heard the car accelerate and it started to go faster. I hit the brakes and that did not slow down the car. I was in heavy traffic and quickly went into a side street turning sharply and narrowly missing parked cars but struck two steel poles and than a parked truck. It was a horrible experience!.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2010

Brake and accelerator are too close together and too often, when pressing on the brake pedal, the accelerator is pressed as well causing the vehicle to advance (either forward or in reverse). I brought it to the dealer (malouf) and was told they found no defect and there were no recalls or safety bulletins and there was nothing to do. I see, from reading the n. H. T. S. A. Reports that this is one of the most common complaints and the safety board should force Ford/Lincoln to install some devise that prevents engaging both the brake and the accelerator at the same time.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town Car. While driving between 10-15 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. The vehicle failed to slow down and the driver veered off the road onto a grassy area and sidewalk to avoid crashing into other vehicles. Immediately, the vehicle came to a complete stop. There were no injuries or damages. The failure recurred within 500 feet from the previous failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not duplicate the failures. The failure still persists. The failure mileage was 23,740 and current mileage was 23,782.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2008

I have a 2006 Lincoln Town Car. It has a driver adjustment on the height of the brake pedal. Even with it at the top, when you apply the brakes, the accelerator is so close that you can push it also. This is very dangerous. Several times now, I have avoided an accident only because an oncoming driver missed me. Coming up to a stop sign, I've applied the brakes only to have the car jump forward into traffic.
