Transmission Gear Slipping problems of the 1996 Mazda 626

Four problems related to transmission gear slipping have been reported for the 1996 Mazda 626. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2005

First my transmission was slipping now the od light flashes when I drive on the thruway or any situation where im goin 50mph or more I have owned the car for less than a year.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2004

Transmission was slipping and fuel was leaking. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and dealer told him that transmission failed, and it needed to be repaired. Conumer stated that dealer told him it would cost approximately $3000. 00. Consumer was concerned because he did not have that many miles on vehicle. Also, check engine light came on and stayed on.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2002

Transmission is slipping badly in lower gears. Shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd is very bad and often the rpms are approx. 5000 before the shift occurs. (even on a downhill slope) as of early November, the transmission will periodically not go into reverse. I have changed the transmission fluid on the recommended schedule of every 5k miles. Dt.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2001

Transmission is slipping when going from first to second gear. Vehicle wants to remain in neutral. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
