Two problems related to hydraulic power assist steering system have been reported for the 1997 Mazda 626. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning power steering belt fell off, causing the vehicle to shut down.
Power steering pump failed while driving. Luckily was local and close to home. Could've been disastrous at high speed and making a turn.
