Since owning the Mazda 626 I have had a very big problem the transmission slipping. It will slip going into second gear. If its below 60 degrees the car wont shift into drive until the motor gets hot enough. The car is like this every single day and does it every time it is driven. Also the interior lights work somtimes on and off and the back windows wont roll down from the driver button.
Gears began slipping and then transmission completely failed.
My transmission slips, and will not go into first or second gear. Car is in perfect shape, completely maintained throughout lifetime, and only has 104,000 miles. Transmission must be replaced.
Driving down the highway during normal rush hour traffic, transmission starts to slip. Car goes slower and slower until it finally won't move at all. Had transmission fluid changed at regular 30k intervals. Car was taken to a local transmission shop where I was told that the trans was shot, ruined, kaput, etc. . . Estimate of $2500. Have been informed that this is a very common failure in my car. And the dealer refuses to help or even talk about helping on the repair cost. My car only has 89k on it!! now the car is sitting in my driveway collecting dust, I don't have $2500 to fix a problem that the manufacturer is well aware of since most Mazda 626's are having this failure.
Vehicle downshifted to 2 while I was driving at 70-75 mph. Caused vehicle to skid on wet road! while crossing an intersection, transmission started slipping and almost caused a multiple vehicle accident.

The transmission started slipping 2 days after I bought the car. As I was driving home from the store the transmission stopped responding while I was driving. After this the car did move in any gear. I since then have had the transmission rebuilt.

1998 Mazda 626 - transmission started slipping and finally gave out. Also was not the first transmission rebuilt received directly from Mazda that has given out, but was not reported the first time due to the fact I thought it was a regular problem caused on my part. Recently had to pay $3000+taxs to replace transmission and labor charges. There has to be something done about Mazda and there vehicles because they are useless pretty much and should be recalled. . Since I purchased my car used from corporate motors in sacramento, calif. I always thought the transmission was slipping at 18k, this was my first one so I just figured that's how automatics drove, wrong? air conditioning went out around 30k. I've spent well over $2500 repairing the vehicle transmission wise, and now the pump is going out. I have been told the pump just can't be replaced, I will have to get another transmission, either rebuilt or a new one. I am letting it get to the point that it will drive in a dealership and never come home with me again.
