1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2026

High pressure fuel pump has been replaced twice in less than a year. Car has less than 100,000 miles. Both times the fuel pump went out while driving, causing loss of acceleration and stalling of vehicle. Had to be towed to shop both times.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2026

The fuel pump system needed to be replaced completely, although the mileage is just around 60000 miles.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2024

I was driving on a city street and slowed to turn right onto a driveway at at a private residence. As my car entered the driveway and near the end of the right turn, my car had a sudden unintended uncontrolled acceleration, continued the turn, went over a low hedge of shrubs on the right side of the driveway, continued down a short rocky incline, and landed on a large rock where the car stopped.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

Denso fuel pump should be recalled!!! it is not sending fuel to the my engine properly it's running rough at even 0-30 miles, becomes difficult to start (cold or mild engine), sputters and idel, and suddenly stalled out in the middle of the road several times, put us in danger from other motorist. My check engine warning indicator is also on, it's not shifting correctly and is lacking rpm power. Mechanic put a code scanner on it and found p0192 (low fuel rail pressure) and p0171 (system too lean). . . I have the pictures. Several auto makers have issued recalls, including Mazda. But Mazda only went back as far as 2018. Toyota recalled cars as far back as 2013. Mazda needs to do the right thing or be forced to do so!.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2023

Fuel system failure at only 60k miles on car. Engine light came on dash & my car just randomly started failing as if it wasn't getting gas, trying to cut off while driving down the road!! huge hazard!! this could have caused an accident but I luckily going in a 25mph zone. Local shop diagnosed the fuel pumps failed (this car has 2 of them) and they also were able to reproduce the same issue when going to start the car to move in and out of the bay. I have called Mazda and done the research- they did not put a recall on this year but it appears other years gave been recalled with fuel system related issues. This should be looked into as I've found numerous complaints on this year and model!.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

The low pressure fuel pump on my Cx-5 failed on my drive back home, while in a remote area. I was able to limp the vehicle home with a check engine light that illuminated (at the time of the incident) and erratic vehicle performance (uneven power deliver). This occurred on level ground at highway speed - no incident precipitated the part failure. Once home the following day, the vehicle would not restart. Upon diagnostic review, the vehicle had thrown two codes, one being a low fuel rail pressure (p0192 and p0171). This is a know issue for these defective (denso) fuel pumps. The manufacturer should extend the recall to include vehicles manufactured prior to 2018.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2022

The check engine light came on when I was in my way home. This morning when I started my car, the engine reved on its own and then it went to 0. This is super dangerous. The car could have stopped in the middle of the freeway. I had my car towed to a local mechanic. The error code that came up was p0192. Looks like there is a recall for the fuel pump issue for many Mazda, yet mine isn’t part of it.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

My son was driving the car when it suddenly lost power and would not shift correctly. This occurred without warning while in moderately fast traffic that was moving at 40-50 mph. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the problem occurring. Upon reviewing trouble codes, it is likely that the low pressure fuel pump located in the fuel tank has begun to fail. When the tank gets low on fuel, about 1/4 tank, the low pressure fuel pump is unable to supply enough fuel to the high pressure fuel pump. This results in sudden loss of power, and also hard starting. I believe the fuel pump is the problem because it was manufactured by denso, who recalled 2,000,000 similar fuel pumps two years ago. Those pumps were recalled because they created the exact problem we experienced. Toyota recalled vehicles using these pumps as far back as 2013. However Mazda and other oem's were allowed to only recall vehicles going back to 2018. Even though it is the same pump. When the manufacturing defect that causes a safety problem is well known, why are some manufacturers allowed to limit their recall? why aren't all cars using the pump forced to be recalled? if a recall is excessive, why aren't manufacturers required to provide an extended warranty? NHTSA, you dropped the ball on this, and you need to fix it.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2021

My problem is with the keyless start system. The problem is that if I forget to push the start button to shut down the vehicle and open the door and leave the automobile and shut the door with the key in my possession the auto will keep running until it runs out of fuel. Wouldn't it make more sense for the vehicle to shut down after 3 minutes if the key is not present. As you know people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning by parking in their garage and forgetting to shut down the vehicle and the vehicle keeps running and filling their homes with carbon monoxide. This happened to a older couple in sarasota florida with a new car that they just purchased and were not familiar with the starting system. Just wanted to know just how many people have to die before something is done about this problem. I asked my Mazda dealer and they told me that the vehicle will run until out of fuel and basically said that I was stupid for being concerned.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2021

I was driving and was approaching a stop sign so I pressed brake to come to a stop. While I was pressing the brake, the car suddenly revved up and lurched forward. I had to switch the car to neutral gear to stop and then back up out of the way of oncoming traffic.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

My allstate rep told me that I have 4 recalls.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Fuel filler pipe melted causing extensive fire and damage. I haven't had use of my vehicle since 5/14/19. Mazda is award and doesn't care. No accident involved just happened. Lost my job because of no vehicle and am behind on all payments . Car was traveling on express way when happened. Please call mechanic at excel collision apache junction az for all damage and delays.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

When I start the car in the beginning of a cold day, I smell gas all around the car. I found that the car has an incomplete recalls when I entered the VIN no. , but I called the no. They told me that the car hasn't any recalls.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Mazda Cx-5. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v064000 (fuel) and 16v644000 (locks/linkages) however, the parts for the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact had not experienced any failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms remedy not yet available and parts distribution disconnect. Gl.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2016

Within two months of purchasing the vehicle it broke down (in motion) on the highway, towed it to a Mazda dealership who diagnosed the problem as water in the fuel. After a week the vehicle was returned, this time the fuel gauge was inoperable and it continued to sputter, took it to a second dealership who kept it for another week who apparently fixed the problem. The vehicle seemed ok and exactly one week later after parking it (stationary) and walking away it burst into flames, the flames incinerated three adjacent vehicles.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

Stopped on highway at red light. Went to pull out on green, car hesitated then it felt like I was being hit from behind the transmission engaged with a big thud before I could get moving. Further on down the road it would without warning, downshift then upshift, going sometimes from 6th gear to 3rd and throwing me forward. Everytime I would stop and try to start there was hesitation from the transmission then it would slam into gear. When I was stopped on a slight upgrade, the car would drift backward a good bit, the only way to stop it was to give it more gas and the transmission would again slam into gear. During all this no engine or warning lights of any kind came on. The model I was driving was less than 30 days old with only 3300 miles on it. I am concerned, because I traded in a 2014 Mazda cx 5 ( same model) and it also had to have the transmission replaced. Mazda is replacing the transmission in this 2016 unit.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2014

Brand new Mazda cx5 2days after first use vehicle started bucking badly. First reported to dealer and comment was "it is the driver" next day on parkway while attempting to pass the vehicle slipped into what appeared to be neutral nearly resulting in lane change accident,. Car continued to buck slipping gears in routine driving . On way to return car to dealership car started to move at red light and then stopped resulting in minor rear end collision.
