The contact owns a 2019 Mazda Cx-5. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph with the sunroof opened in the vent position, and the rear windows and driver's side and passenger windows opened, the contact stated he heard an abnormal sound like a gun shot and sunroof glass shattered, and pieces of glass entered the cabin. The contact pulled over and observed that a hole measuring approximately 12 inches by 6 inches had opened in the sunroof. The contact noticed that the glass surrounding the hole had an uplifted edge of approximately 2 inches around the hole. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
