2 Wheel problem of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

Lower ball joints, lower control arms, and axles failed on the front right and front left of the vehicle while driving. The wheels were partially disconnected with no ability to steer or drive my vehicle. Both failures happened within 2 1/2 months. After the right side failed, the auto mechanic checked the left side yet it failed regardless of all inspections including the annual state requirement. During both failures I was fortunate to be driving through turns at slow rate of speed. Serious injuries and more likely casualties would have occurred had I been driving at a higher rate of speed through traffic when the failures occurred.

3 Wheel problem of the 2016 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 05/09/2022

I own a 2016 Mazda Cx-5 touring with awd. I purchased it brand new from a dealer--no miles on it. It's been a great car until this sudden unintended acceleration problem (about 60k miles now). It's happened 5 or 6 times--twice when in a drive thru. It seems that if I am idling (not pressing on gas or brake) the car will sometimes suddenly accelerate. I have used suggestions to brake, then place car in neutral. That seemed to resolve the problem. However, recently I pulled up to my (rural) mailbox and the car tried to accelerate out of control. I had the brake on (was on a downhill) when it happened, so this was scary. I really had to press down more on the brake pedal, then shifted to neutral, then to park. The acceleration finally stopped. I did not observe tachometer readings during this or other events, but will pay more attention if/when this happens in the future. I do not drive with both feet, and as these incidents have occurred I have been able to maintain more composure and analyze what is going on. I am not getting my foot caught in the mat and I'm not mistakenly pressing on the accelerator. I've been to my local Mazda dealer (sport durst in durham) on may 13, 2022 and they were unable to replicate the problem, so could not repair or even troubleshoot it. The car was t-boned about a year ago, with some damage to the passenger front tire. Could that have anything to do with my problems? my partner feels this could be an issue with the throttle control sensor (hardware) or with the software managing throttle control (much more difficult to diagnose, he says). I wanted to ask: for anyone experiencing this problem, did replacing the throttle control sensor or diagnosing software problems resolve the issue? and, do you have any recommendations for me? since the car is (barely) out of warranty, (just over 6 yrs/60,000 miles) would filing a claim with Mazda be a good approach? would you suggest I just trade the car in?.

4 Wheel problem of the 2018 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 04/02/2022

Certified Mazda cx5 sold with faulty wheel bearing and had to be back in service less than 24 hours from purchase. They failed to replace the piece of engine after 35. 000 maintenance and another dealer found 5 areas that needed work 3 weeks later. Brake warning system went off took5 days to determine it was a dead switch and replaced exactly one month later brake system warning goes off after car was in park and off for 25 minutes at the airport. I was told that I was fine to drive it despite the manual clearly saying do not drive if brake warning lights go on. And it was supposed to have been repaired. The dealership expected me to believe that a rubber mat set off the high tech brake system this is ridiculous they bought back car did not return the 5000 down payment or 14000 trade in and refused to honor the store warranty of buy back for life kbb 125 of trade in value. They refused to do anything to cancel warranty but then carol canceled all 3 and had no authority or permission by me to illegally cancel my warranty and refuse to provide the documentation that the warranty company insist the dealer has to provide. There is no record of my ownership of this vehicle when VIN is run ir the excessive amount of damage to the car by koons Mazda silver spring.

5 Wheel problem of the 2020 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 03/13/2021

Vehicle was on a city street traveling at 35-40 mph when the front left wheel (yokohama geolandar g91) spontaneously blew out despite not colliding with any objects or road hazards. As a result, driver side curtain and seat airbags erroneously deployed and the vehicle immediately shutoff, causing disorientation and temporary loss of hearing in one ear.

6 Wheel problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Bought my car with 40k miles on it from a Mazda dealership in aurora colorado in 2017. I'm at 106k now and I thought I needed wheel bearings on the front driver side tire. Turns out it's the drive train and a transmission failing. My vehicle hums on the front driver side when I accelerate. This issue began just over 100k miles.

7 Wheel problem of the 2020 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

After picking-up a brand new car from Mazda dealership, I was returning home using a 3-lane I-75 highway, as always extremely busy. To stay in this traffic I was forced to drive at 70 mph, which is the local speed limit. It turns out that from the speed of 60 mph up, the car didn't want to drive in a straight line on its own and required continuous steering wheel corrections. This created a hazardous driving condition considering the fact that the adjacent lanes were packed-up with the other vehicles. Upon arrival I examined the tires installed on the car and found them to be m+s toyo a36 - the type used for mud and snow conditions, typically in cold climates. The irony is I live in south-central florida, the dealership is also in south-central florida, and the new Mazda cars were shipped from the producer to jacksonville port in florida for the local markets. Thus, while perfectly acceptable in montana or michigan, this type of m+s tire is just dangerous when used on hot, south-central FL interstate highways. I contacted the Mazda north american operations (mnao) asking for replacing the type of tires on my car and pointing to the fact that Mazda japan specifies different, safer type (thread and compound) of tires for their own markets. The mnao answer was in essence: "one size fits all'. Attached below is the transcript of my chat with mnao, Mazda-japan specification of toyo proxes tires, as well as a sample of customer reviews of the tires mnao installs on Mazda Cx-5 today across the USA.

8 Wheel problem of the 2019 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 12/25/2019

The driver's side mirror would vibrate excessively at high speed. The car was taken to two different dealership but they couldn't figure out how to fix that. 2019 cx5 exhibits an excessive vibration from the driver-side power door mirror glass when the vehicle is driven at high speeds. This concern may be due to a lack of rigidity of the mirror base so the mirror vibrates when it receives vehicle vibration or wind pressure. With the weather warming up, stuff inside the door panels is expanding which magnifies the vibration issue. Vibration noise is getting worse coming from both door panels when the car hits a crack, bump, pothole, or when the radio is on. Mazda corporation lacks integrity and refuse to admit that they have a serious issue due to their poor quality control. This is isn't a new problem. 2013-2015 Cx-5 had same issue with driver's side mirror vibration but they issued a recall and the problem was from the door panel which lacked support and was poorly made in the 1st place.

9 Wheel problem of the 2019 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

I had a flat tire on the front left corner of the vehicle while driving on a high speed highway. In my effort (and that of a wisconsin state trooper) to install the temporary spare tire I (we) discovered it would not fit on the car. It seemed to be the wrong type for my vehicle. I had it towed to a nearby dealership and they too could not understand why the spare would not fit. The mechanics best guess is that the brake caliper is to big for the spare preventing it from being installed. So they moved the left rear wheel to the front and installed the spare on the rear corner. Now let's be clear, I know and the dealership knows that putting the spare on the rear axle is the safest way to travel until a replacement tire is obtained. But, when you are stuck on a patch of asphalt between an exit ramp and the main thoroughfare with cars flying by you on both sides, as I was, you just want to get the hell out of there and not take any more time than necessary like rotating tires on one side of the car. I contacted Mazda about what happened and their answer was only put the spare on the rear axle citing an excerpt from the owner's manual. That statement in the manual only tells you it could be unsafe to put the spare on the front but nothing tells you it won't even fit. Because of this little "design flaw" I was forced into a prolonged dangerous situation. Quite simply I should be provided a spare that will fit every axle so I can get out of harms way as soon as possible.

10 Wheel problem of the 2016 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

Driving on rte 95 s in PA. When the right rear yokohama geolandar g91a tire blew out without warning. The entire center tread separated from the sidewall and took off down the highway. The tpms did not alert me and only the sidewalls are left. Mazda and yokohama couldn't care less when I contacted them.

11 Wheel problem of the 2018 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 05/19/2018

I purchased a 2018 mazada cx5 in April. In may I noticed that the brakes were hesitant to stop and that they also make grinding noise. I immediately contacted the service department at mazada. The service advisor told me that because the car was new it would make grinding noise and that they would eventually ease up. It is now November and the issue still exist. In June my passengers seat belt began having difficulty latching causing the censor to go off. This happens daily. In October my tire pressure light came on stating that the tire pressure was low. I placed air in my tires and the censor light never went off. On October 18, 2018, I went to the mazada dealership for a scheduled maintenance, informed the service advisor of my concerns and they stated everything was fine and the censor was reset. Today is November 2, 2018 and my tire censor is back on. My brakes are still grinding and now they slide before stopping and my passenger seat belt still is not latching. This is a safety hazard to myself and passengers.

12 Wheel problem of the 2015 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

My car has hydroplaned twice in the past six months. The first time, I was coming around a curve in light rain and the back tires slipped. I felt as if they completely lost traction. I was able to correct and keep from causing an accident. I visually inspected my tires and they still looked brand new. This occurred at about 22,000 miles. My speed was about 15 miles an hour. I then had a second incident at about 26,000 miles. This was experienced in heavy rain on the highway at about 60 miles per hour. My car again lost traction and went completely into the lane next to me. It was as if it lifted and went left, both back and front tires. I avoided collision because there was no car next to me. I have had tires rotated every 5000 miles and all maintenance as required to vehicle. When taken to flow Mazda I informed them of the problem. They said there was more wear on front than back tires which makes no sense due to required rotation being done. They were not helpful or concerned. I don't know if this is a car issue or tire issue. I cannot drive a vehicle that is hydroplaning.

13 Wheel problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

I have had continuous issues with all four of my wheel bearings. After one went bad, I had to replace it. Two weeks later, I had to replace a second one, and then the final two wheel bearings had to be replace only a week after that. Upon taking it to one mechanic, I was told that this is a frequent problem with the Mazda Cx-5, and they get a lot of owners that come in to repair this issue. I did some research on my own, and realized that what the mechanic had told me was true. Apparently, a lot of Mazda owners are having this issue. I called up an official Mazda service center to inquire about this and the service technician had told me that they even get brand new cars (cx-5) with low mileage that are having the same problem, so it's not a mileage issue. They're constantly replacing the wheel bearings for the Cx-5, regardless if the vehicle has low or high mileage. Unfortunately, my car is now out of warranty, so to replace each wheel bearing, it has cost me about $500 for each one. That is $2000 in repairs fora problem that seems to be very consistent with a lot Cx-5 models. I have owned other cars with three times the mileage without having such an issue. I think, perhaps, Mazda should look into as a recurring issue across the board with many Mazda owners. This sounds like a manufacturer defect that is of no fault to the owner. Perhaps Mazda should consider releasing a recall for this defect.

14 Wheel problem of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

While driving on i95 north at approx. 55-60mph and between forest hill and southern blvd, the vehicle hit a piece of wood or metal that was on the road. The front wheel crack in half. Concern with structural integrity of these wheel.

15 Wheel problem of the 2016 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 11/17/2016

Electronic parking brake stays engaged while driving causing brakes excessive wear and brake failure. Five 2016 cx5 vehicles manufactured in same 5 month period came to dealership with same problem. Problem first detected by squeaking. Problem gets worse until difficult to stop when braking. Grumbling noise in front caused by bad bearings. Providing dealer records and parts that have been ordered. Concerned that Mazda has not addressed this issue which may not manifest itself for a year or more after purchase. Mazda is still selling the 2016 models since the 2017's have been delayed. Mazda has had rear brake problems in its previous models of cx5 but does not address issues on the 2016. Concerned that someone may be seriously hurt or killed by this braking issue. Car has been in service since November 17 2016 because suitable parts are still on order. Worried that with time parts will deteriorate again. Please see part number of the epb unit still outstanding on attachment.

16 Wheel problem of the 2015 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

After making a right hand turn, there was a sudden loud noise. The car then came to a sudden stop on it's own. Upon inspection, the lower control arm ball joint and axle detached from the front passenger tire while the car was in motion.

17 Wheel problem of the 2015 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 01/10/2016

. The tires that it has are the ones that came originally with the car when I purchased brand new in may 2014. The car has only 12k miles. The incident happened this last Sunday (1/10/16) at around 1:30pm. I was returning with my family from a school soccer game. I was driving on the I-95 at around 50mph in the express lanes. Suddenly we heard a loud noise, we were not sure if it was coming from the car, the radio, a nearby truck or even an app from my kids' tablet. At the same time my car started losing traction and vibrates, but luckily I was able to control it and decelerate carefully. I was able to stop in one the sides of the highway, and then I exited the car and took a look of what happened. And then it was when I discovered the scary situation. The passenger rear tire (yokohama geolandar g91) was completely destroyed as shown in the photo that I sent you. That happened without cause. There was not any debris or anything in the highway and the road was clear. The weather was nice too, it had been raining a few minutes before, but it was clear at the time of the accident. After I saw the tire, I realized of the lucky that we were.

18 Wheel problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

I first started hearing this screeching noise back in may 2015, after which I took it to the dealership thinking whatever it was could be covered under warranty. They came back saying that it was due to not having any rear brake pads left and my rotors were severely damaged. Unfortunately, this was due to normal wear and tear and not covered under warranty. After fixing this, in August 2015, I started to hear the noise again. Took it back to the same dealership complaining about the same noise. This time, they stated that it was my front brake pads. Got this fixed as well. Now it is September, and I hear the same exact screeching noise as I heard in may. I decided to have it checked at another dealership but unfortunately, due to how the prior dealership used an air impact wrench to put on my wheel locks, they were not able to remove them. It actually stripped the key and now I am stuck with another problem to fix. While there, we asked if this might be the reason behind the screeching that we hear, but the mechanic stated that there is a service bulletin out on the rear calipers, etc and to fix it if a customer complains. Now my complaint is how is a customer supposed to be aware of this if it is not made known to us. . . And instead, the dealerships trick us into repeatedly returning to have it checked, taking time out of our busy work schedules. I also don't agree with at only 30k, I had to have all my brake pads changed already! all the other cars I've had, I did at around 50k.
