36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2012

The air conditioner compressor went out. The vehicle began to have acceleration issues and started smoking like burnt rubber. Mazda has extended the warranty to 60,000 miles but refuses to replace the compressor beyond that mileage.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx7. The contact stated that she had to replace the turbo in the engine four times due to sludge build up. The contact also stated that the most recent turbo failure caused the engine and transmission to fail. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that it was unusual for this failure to occur. The contact stated that the first turbo failed at 33,000 miles, the second at 58,000 miles and the third at 83,000. The manufacturer stated the turbos were not covered by warranty. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2012

While driving our Cx-7 stopped running right in the middle of the road, we have found out that is a known issue with Mazda Cx-7 vvt pin/timing chain breaking. We were able to get the car stopped, but it was in the middle of the rode and was a hazard not only to our car, but other cars coming up behind us. We were unable to move the car and had to wait for a tow truck. Of course, Mazda won't do anything to remedy the situation because the warranty has passed. . . Even though they knew the problem existed in 2009. Someone will get killed one day.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Vvt and timing chain replacement needed Mazda knew these to be defective parts but only issued warning to me just this month and now that im over the mileage I have to pay for cost of replacing both . . . Why hasn't the safety board looked into this very dangerous issue that will eventually cause someone to lose their lives . . . . . This most be addressed now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2012

Mazda sent information regarding an extended warranty for the vvt actuator/timing chain for 70,000 miles or 7 years of age. I took my vehicle in for service, literally days after receiving this mailing, and was informed that I needed this repaired on my vehicle. My car was around 15,000 miles over the limit but within the 7 year time frame. After calling the customer service line, Mazda insisted there was nothing they could do since I was over the mileage cap. This is obviously a defect no matter how many miles are on the vehicle. To repair the problem, I will have to pay over $1,500. Why did it take so long to do something about this? a reputable company would fix this defect on all vehicles affected.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

The timing chain in this vehicle broke while under power. We recently received a voluntary warranty extension notice (Mazda calls it a special service program) that indicated there may be a problem with the engine in the vehicle, specifically elements related to the timing chain and variable valve timing. Our car always rattled at startup from the day we bought it, that was our normal experience and expectation for what the car was supposed to sound like. We never knew this was a problem until a couple of weeks ago, and come to find out, our car had passed the extended coverage period provided by Mazda anyway. It is and will be our contention that there is a serious design flaw in the motor of this vehicle. While our experience is that the car failed at 83k miles, many have failed sooner, and other Mazda products using the same motor are affected (l3t engine, also in the speed 6 and the speed 3) it should be noted that the service interval for the timing chain had not been reached. Mazda published a TSB on this problem in 2009 or thereabouts, but never contacted it's customers directly to indicate that service may be required. It is time for the ntsb to get a recall notice issued and put this issue to bed once and for all, before someone gets killed.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2012

I have only owned my Mazda Cx-7 for 6 months before the turbo went on my car. The engine lost power. The Mazda dealer reported sludge build up and as a result the turbo failed. No one will cover the work as I lack appropriate maintenance records on the car (since I've only owned it long enough to make 5 mapyments).

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

Received warranty extension program ssp87 letter to handle variable value timing actuator fix. Extends warranty to 84 months or 70000 miles. My car has 74,000 miles and has symptoms described in ssp. Was told by both the dealer ( turnersville Mazda in turnersville NJ ) and Mazda north America that nothing could be done to help me. I offered to pay part of the repair if they would work with me, both dealer and Mazda na had no interest. Care does function ok now but I will not drive it anymore until I can get it fixed. I will also be logging a complaint with the better business bureau and contacting the state attorney general and possibly a small claims court case. This is obviously a common problem and Mazda na seems to show no interest in standing behind their product.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2012

On 2/11/2012 while driving down the highway at a speed of 70 miles per hour my Mazda Cx-7's engine lost all power. Luckily we were able to avoid having an accident and make it to the side of the road. The vehicle has been diagnosed with failure of the turbo system and timing chain (a very serious and recurring problem with this model). Mazda has extended their warranties but is denying claim citing oil sludge buildup even though the vehicle has been properly maintained per the owner's manual. Mazda is denying fault with the engine and saddling me with a bill of over three thousand dollars to fix it. The vehicle is less than six years old and only has approximately 56,000 miles on it. Mazda needs to address the problems with this models engine and the fact that it cooks the engine oil long after parking.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

The engine has two faulty parts. V. V. T. Actuator and turbo. They admit bad design, but only warranty it to 70k. They are doing everything they can to get out of this repair when they know exactly what part of their design is failing. Total engine damage when parts fail. This needs attention as consumers are being ripped off and put in danger. Same engine in Mazda 3 and 6.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

Vvt actuator broke while we were driving the vehicle. After inspecting we realized the broken part caused extensive damage to the motor causing a complete motor replacement necessary. We contacted the Mazda dealer in our area who told us Mazda was aware of the problem with 2007 Cx-7 and are ignoring the problem, they told us it wasn't worth fixing. We purchased this vehicle a year ago and still owe a considerable amount of money, now we can't trade it off and are having to pay payments on a defective vehicle. Mazda recently voluntarily extended the warranty to cover this defective part but put the cutoff at 70,000 miles, the thing doesn't break until approximately 80,000 or more. I contacted Mazda and asked for help and was told too bad.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

While driving on the freeway at about 70 mph, my 2007 Mazda cx7 randomly lost power. I was able to pull to the side of the freeway even though the steering wheel became very hard to turn. I was very lucky there were not many cars around me. The motor would only rev when I pushed the gas pedal. I had the car towed to a mechanic. The next day I was told that my motor and turbo needed to be replaced. The repairs would total to about $8,000. I already owe $15,000 on the auto loan. I only had the car for one year, the motor went bad at 60, 000 miles?. I'm a full-time student and a mom, my husband makes less than $30k a year. We cannot afford the repairs at this time. As a result, the car is sitting on our driveway.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2011

Just purchased the vehicle for my mom as a present because she has wanted one since they came out. It has 81,000 miles on it. The vvt has gone out, the timing chain needs replaced and now they are telling me that the engine is shot because of the sludge and the neglected care to the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle used so I do not know how it was cared for previously, but since we have had it, it has been cared for magnificently. I have read numerous consumer reports which stated the exact same problems im having. I'm getting quoted over $7,500 to fix the vehicle that I purchased not even 2 months ago. Mazda should be held responsible for this.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

This vehicle has caused me nothing but problems! I have had it for 3 years and it has been in the shop 4 times and this last time is the transmission at 70,000 miles! this is ridiculous. . . Mazda needs to clean up it's act. Customers should not have charges like this early on in the life of a vehicle. The vehicle is gorgeous but perhaps they should have spent a little more time putting it together as it doesn't matter for eye appealing it is when it doesn't run!.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2011

Bought car 4 months ago, 61k miles, at 64k miles car turned off on highway, had the car towed to dealership where purchased and the timing chain broke, and now car needs a new engine at 64k miles and Mazda will not cover due to out of warranty.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

Smoke and rattling and low oil promted me to make an apt at my local Mazda dealer only to find that my turbo has blown and my vvt valve and timing chain. (the truck is a 2007) I was told that I should not drive the truck as it would be a safety issue with 2 kids. So aftr my quote of 7000. 00 to fix the truck I thought I would do some research online only to find that there are as many as 50 people with the same problem in the same truck with the same year~!! why wont Mazda stand behind there product and put out a safety recall on this issue? I was told to find this site and lodge my complaint. Hope this will do some good !!.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

Purchased my vehicle 15 months ago at 38,000 miles. In October, I was driving along and the car stopped running. No warning, nothing on the dash lighting up, the vehicle just started loosing speed. The steering was going as well. I put the vehicle in neutral to try and get the steering back and it was a hard steer to the side of the road. I tried starting the vehicle and it would turn but not start. Two tows later, I find, to my surprise at 62,000, that I need a new engine. My timing chain either broke or has derailed. This all happened on October 22nd. It is now November 10th and I still do not have an exact diagnosis nor a vehicle. Yes, warranty is done at 60,000 miles, but what vehicles loose and engine at 62,000 in this decade? and, thankfully, I was not on a highway when this happened as I'm not sure what happened to the steering in this whole process.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

Timing chain broke,.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

I have had my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 for less than one year. I stopped at a red light after exiting the highway and my car engulfed in thick white smoke. I had the car towed to a local shop per my insurance company to have it checked out. The repair shop at first called to tell me it was the starter, and that it would cost 600 to fix it. Come to find out that not only the starter blew, but it also ruined the alternator as well as the fuses on the battery. I was told by Mazda that this is not a common occurrence. The total of the repairs is now over 1200. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained throughout its lifespan and is at 92,000 miles.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Vehicle has a defective variable valve timing actuator (as per the manufacturers campaign letter) that causes a noise at start up and a loose timing chain. That first phase of the failure has already occurred. The next stage of the failure which hasn't happened to me yet (but has been documented by others) is that the vvt actuator eventually becomes dislodged from its pin and as a result, the timing chain breaks, causing the engine to seize instantly, causing an emergency response from the driver to attempt to get out of the flow of traffic, without warning, within seconds of the failure. The vehicle is driven on the NJ turnpike, rt. 295, rt 195, etc in central NJ and when the failure as described above occurs when traveling at highway speeds on busy roadways, there is a high probability of an accident occurring at the time of the failure, or as the car sits disabled on the edge of a roadway awaiting roadside assistance. The danger is not only for the occupants of the Cx-7, but also for those directly behind the vehicle at the point of the vvt failing and/or the timing chain breaking. I have requested that the vehicle be repaired for over 90 days, however Mazda USA continues to inform me that the parts are not available and that there no identified date of when they will be in stock. That means that they are allowing me and my family to drive a vehicle equipped with a defective original equipment part, that when it fails, may cause harm to me, my family and others. They are not considering this a matter of safety, and instead only a matter of inconvenience in that because my vehicle is now over their self determined 70,000k mileage threshold, they are not offering to fix the car. Instead, they are telling me that I can pay to have it fixed. They should be warning their customers of the dangerous condition being created by their faulty components.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2011

Ac compressor died.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx7. The contact stated was driving 55 mph when the engine oil shield cover separated from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle with the dealer one day prior to the failure for routine oil change. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the engine oil plastic shield cover. The dealer advised that there was a possibility that the screws may not have been placed back correctly. The dealer replaced the oil cover shield with the same defected plastic and there were no further repairs. The failure and the current mileage was 70,000.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2011

I have a 2007 Mazda cx7 that has a broken vvt timing system. The car is not drivable and the part is not available. The car currently has 74,000 miles on it. This is a know issue with Mazda and they are not taking responsibility. This is devastating as a consumer to not have the support of Mazda on a known defect with their vehicle. I am requesting that something be done so that Mazda takes responsibility for this defect and compensates Mazda cx7 owners for these expensive repairs!.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

I bought my 2007 Mazdacx7 in Feb 2012. Ive only had the car for 8 mths when the turbo went out also the pinston rings, first the driver side window came off the track could'nt let window down anymore, the the driverside door handle broke, called Mazda they said the handle would cost 200. 00 to replace, could'nt afford to fix it still broken, then in 10/20121 the turbo went out, called the dealer where I bought the car from and he told me to take the car to Mazda dealership,so I did Mazda mechanic told me that it would cost over 2500. 00 to fix the turbo no counting what else is wrong with the car because the car started smoking soo bad before I left the Mazda dealership the mechanic at Mazda said it doesn't make sense to fix my truck because who I bougt the car from they sold me a lemon that I might as well buy another car,the mechanic told me to be careful not to drive my car because it's not safe to dridealer where I bought the car from and the manager gave me the run-a-r in another I would have went somewhere else, well for 3 weeks they gave me the cold shouler, nasty behaviors even hanging the phone up in my face, that hurts they sold me a recall car Mazda said anyhting over 71000 miles the manufacture warranty doesn't cover well when I bought the car it only had 65000 miles so the dealer said and I checked the mileage upon buying the car,im still not undrstanding there's something missing from this puzzle, even the grill wasn't right on the car after I bought it the next day while driving the car the grill fell down. My car smokes sooo! bad it nusafe to drive and I have 2 granddaughters that need to go to school. Im at my ends with that dealer.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2010

Turbo problems in my Mazda Cx-7. Replaced first turbo in October 2010 total $$ 4500. 00. Now my turbo has failed for the 2nd time in January 2012. I have all my receipts for oil changes, but just like all the other posts that you read from other Mazda Cx-7 owners, Mazda finds a reason to not take responsibility that they actually built a car that has a major defect. I've read so many complaints on the Cx-7 turbo's that I can't even keep up with them all. My dealership told me they have replaced at least 50 turbos in the Cx-7's in the last year alone. Also said it is something with a defect in the lines that clog. Sad that a corporation like that gets away with ripping off the hard working consumer. I will never buy a Mazda again.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2010

In September 2013 my car suddenly stopped accelerating while driving it. . . Heard a loud, grinding, screeching notice. . And suddenly my "check engine" light came on. Brought my car to Mazda. . 4 days later they tell me that my turbocharger blew. . And that I have damage to my engine. Told them I purchased an extended warranty in 2010 when I bought the car. . Warranty CO was notified. . . They sent their own inspector to look at my car. . A week later they tell me that they will not cover the damage due to excessive sludge in my engine. And. . . . That I must produce every oil change receipt from 2010-2013 to show proof of maintenance. I gave them all the receipts I could get. . . And decided to do a little research myself on the issue. All I have to say is. . Wow. Apparently, there is a major default in how the turbocharger in the 2007/08 cx7. . . Numerous of service bulletins on the Mazda website describing the exact issue with the turbos and how they are very much aware of it, and. . Thousands of forums, complaints, etc about the same issue. However, Mazda is not owning up to this problem. . And blaming the customer for negligence! 3 months later, 2 rejected appeals w/ the warranty company. . I am stuck with a car that needs $7,000 worth of repairs, and a 2year car loan left to pay. I am beside myself. . And Mazda could care less.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2010

2007 Mazda Cx-7 timing chain issue that needs to be replaced for free. The warranty company is trying to not pay the claim. I was driving 20mph and my car died. It was towed to the dealership. They said this never happens. I have gotten all of the oil changed in my car when it needed to be and they are trying to say that I did something to the vehicle. I'm 42 years old and paid alot of money for this vehicle. I do know how to take care of it.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The timing chain is messed up on my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 it only has 85k miles on it.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

2007 Mazda cx7 - turbo broke while driving causing tremendous sqeeling sound and loss of power. Able to drive home and had towed to Mazda dealership. Service mgr called me saying they checked car over and could not find anything wrong with it and asked if I wanted an oil change. I said go ahead with an oil change but there is definitely something wrong with car and to check again. Mgr called back later saying a screw in the turbo had come loose, turbo was broken, I needed a whole new engine and it would cost $9,000. Car had 34,000 miles and still under warranty. I fax'd copies of oil change receipts. Mazda north America denied warranty claim saying my oil receipts were unverifiable. Mna told me they wouild not verify my receipts. They claimed there was "sludge" and that caused it to break and I hadn't taken care of it. It was a leased vehicle with only 3 months left to pay. Had just started a new job after being unemployed and had to rent a car costing $650 and then go buy a kia causing extreme financial & emotional duress. I told the serv mgr that I could have been killed and found out these cars were engineered incorrectly causing them to get too hot causing "sludge", that I knew he knew about the issue because a service bulletin had been released Jan 08 stating the exact problem, and mazada was trying to avoid a recall. He stated that it was "Mazda north America", and not him and if it were up to him he would fix the car under warranty. I told him I was under extreme duress and that Mazda should do the right thing and fix the car. They refused so had to leave the car at the dealership. And walk away. Now Mazda says I owe them $5,000. Filed complaints with bbb and attny general. It is an outrage that so many Mazda cx7 owners have had same nightmare and Mazda does not care about the safety of it's customers. Please help us.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

Driving to work on interstate truck lost power and had to roll to side of the road until it finally stopped rolling. Had truck towed to local Mazda dealer, service manager stated the timing chain broke and would need to be replaced. Advised manager to fix the timing chain at a cost 1700. 00, notified two days later timing chain was fixed however when the timing chain broke a piece went into the engine and "broke' it. I was advised could have repaired for 8,000. 00. Could not afford it, had truck towed home and it has remained parked for 4 years, and yes I still owed on it. Have researched online and see the thousands and thousands of complaints about the truck same year make and model and same issue. Please look into this matter. Please please please. . Mazda cx7 are unsafe, I could have been killed if the truck cut off in front of 18 wheeler. This is my second complaint submission about this issue to your branch, and reading online I am not the only on that has submitted this claim to you. Please please please please get this truck off the road!!!!!.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2010

Timing chain and variable valve timing module failure on 2007 Mazda Cx-7.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2010

While driving at night at highway speed, noise started to come from engine compartment. Seemed to come and go, but suddenly smelled smoke and lost power steering. Nearly had a head on collision. This was a very serious near miss. Managed to get car to neighborhood car repair shop. After inspection, cause was determined to be seized a/c compressor that led to cascading failures. Cost to repair all damage was $2250. I have since read that this is a common failure on Mazda Cx-7 and still no recall? I will be sending a claim to Mazda USA and would also be interested in joining any class action suite to recoupe all my costs and to force Mazda USA to make a recall. Family's lives are at stake.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2010

While driving we heard a noise from the engine, we were about a mile from our destination. When we pulled into the parking lot we saw smoke coming from the engine compartment. When my husband opened the hood, we saw flames. We immediately called 911 and ran to the building to procure a fire extingusher. We were able to locate one and my husband put out the fire. We were told by the Mazda dealership that the compressor clutch had failed, causing the fire. We had purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle, unfortunately, it only covered to 60,000 miles and the vehicle had 61,000 miles. The service manager suggested that we should file a claim on our insurance, but since we haven't been able to get a detailed estimate on the damages, we haven't proceeded that far yet. They have had the vehicle for three days and there is no complete information on the damages.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

The air conditioner compressor on my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 with approximately 45,000 miles quit working and the air conditioner started blowing hot air. The faulty compressor caused the engine to seize, start smoking profusely and started an internal fire that severely damaged the engine and nearly caused an accident on a busy highway.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2009

I have been driving a 2007 Mazda Cx-7 for two years now, at 48,000 miles, my ac compressor locked up. The air started blowing warm then started seeing smoke from under the hood. I had to pull the car over to the side of the road and smelled burning plastic. Took the car to the dealer and they told me the air conditioner compressor gave out and would cost 1200 to fix. I read online posts and this seems to be a widespread problem and clearly Mazda is selling a defective product. The smoke is a environmental hazard and dangerous if it leads to fire.
