A flapping sound developed in the engine compartment while traveling on interstate 35w. Battery light came on and loss of power steering. Exited the freeway to a parking lot. Opened the hood and the broken engine belt was wrapped around the engine pulley only, with shredded pieces of it sticked throughout the engine compartment. Towed to a repair shop and was diagnosed to have a faulty belt tensioner and/or belt was not installed correctly at the factory. Contacted Mazda USA and was advised that it is not covered under the basic 3 year/36000 miles warranty or the power train 5 year/60000 miles warranty.
