3 Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/04/2017

When I let off of the accelerator it still maintains the speed it was going before I let off the accelerator. The dealer told me that's how its design. He even took it for a ride and said see it still keeps the speed I said its not cruise control. I had contacted the dealer and Mazdausa. Mazdausa ignores me. I just need to get this fixed before someone gets hurt. When I go to pass it stays for a while at the speed I hit before I release the accelerator.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

Drove 80 miles to destination on freeway using cruise control. Car accelerated above cruise setting on downhill - did not engine brake to hold speed. When pulling into destination hotel parking spot and with right foot on brake, engine revved dramatically. Applied both feet to break. Automatic transmission. Changed gears to n, r & p, but engine continued to rev. Turned engine off. Smoke generated from engine entered cabin. Did not use car until next day. Returning home next day used cruise control and exited freeway for break. Slowing down for stop light with car ahead and foot on brake when engine revved again as before. Shifted car into neutral and turned off car then back on. Drove car to dealer on way home without another incident. This dealer is where we purchased the care and all work except tires/alignment and battery occurred. They examined and inspected the car and kept it for the next 10 days logging 200 miles without a reoccurrence of the unintended acceleration.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/07/2013

Was driving on highway using cruise control. Was coming up on a car and hit breaks to disengage cruise control. Instead of turning off cruise control and slowing the car, hitting the break caused the car to acceletrate. I could only turn off the cruise control by slamming the breaks several times.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/29/2012

Cruise control: pedal does not stay where it is set - it returns to a 0 mph position. This makes it uncomfortable to keep your foot resting on the proper pedal while in cruise, leading to losing of 'place'. It could be a safety issue. Acceleration anomalies. When stepping on it (going straight) engine will hesitate, seem to wind up and then go, not giving you the power you need when you need it, but seconds after the fact. Other times engine will accelerate unexpectedly with more power than anticipated most frequently when accelerating into a turn. Seems unsafe.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/29/2010

Cruise control turns off when going down hills, even small ones. I use my cruise control daily and my drive to work contains many small hills. When cruising at 70, I go down a hill. The cruise control backs off then at the bottom of the hill, it fails to engage. Once I have drifted from 70 mph down to 60 mph, it turns itself off. I've had my car 2 months and this has happened 11 times now. The dealership claims there isn't anything wrong and the only way it can turn itself off is if I touch the brake or the clutch. I am doing neither. When on a busy highway, and this begins to happen, the people behind you get very angry. Beside the fact I have begun slowing down without my brake lights coming on. . 9 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/27/2009

I am glad to be alive and telling this horrific story. I was traveling alone in my 2006 Mazda3 on I-95 to lumberton on June 27, 2009 to meet my sister and pick up my mom who had been staying with her while I was out of town for the week. I had my cruise control on about 63 mph and had been traveling behind a tractor trailer truck for approx. Two miles before I reached my exit. I pulled over into the exit lane and hit my brakes and nothing happened! I hit them again and nothing. I hit my on/off cruise control switch and the deceleration switches and nothing happened. I put both feet on the brake and hit my horn and entered a five lane intersection at the end of an uphill exit ramp on a red light doing in excess of 60 mph!!! I knew I was going to die or be physically injured and didn't know who I would take with me as I had no way to slow or stop the car. Looking back, I know I had no more than 10 or 12 seconds to react before I was at the top of the exit ramp going that fast. I turned to the right as I entered the intersection to avoid cars that were entering and I think my car spun around and I was hit by a pickup truck in the inner lane who probably had no idea where I came from. I then went head-on into another car traveling in the opposite direction. My car was totaled, the one I hit head-on was totaled but the pickup truck was able to drive away from the accident. All of us were able to walk away - me very shakily. I had seatbelt bruises and air bag burns and all of my muscles were sore, but I am getting better each day. I still have pain and tightness in my chest area, but from what I am learning about this type of injury it may stay with me for several weeks. Nothing broken and nothing so far that I can't live with. Needless to say my nerves are shattered. Something needs to be done. This does not need to happen to others!!!.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/21/2007

The resume function on the cruise control sometimes exceeds the set speed and fails to upshift. An example of the scenario is the cruise set speed is 75 mph. I approach a car going 65 mph and press the cancel button which disengages the cruise control. The car pulls over and I press the resume button. The transmission will sometimes downshift to either 3rd or 4th gear and quickly accelerate to 78 mph and stay in the lower gear. I am not touching any pedals nor the gear shift which is still in the auto position. The transmission will stay in the lower gear at the higher speed indefinitely. If I press cancel and then resume it will immediately shift to 5th gear and return to the 75 mph set speed. The problem is intermittent and has happened about 10-12 times in the last year. I do use the cruise function daily on the interstate, but don't encounter the described situation very often. I have tried to reproduce the problem a few times without success. I have taken the car to the dealer but they were also unable to reproduce the problem or find any other problems with the cruise function. They also stated there was no tech bulletin describing this problem. An email to Mazda was responded to by suggesting I take the car to the dealer. I am a very experienced driver. I know with absolute certainty that I am not touching any pedals and that the gear shift is in the auto position. This is not a case of driver error. There is a clear defect in the functioning of the cruise control or transmission operation. In every other way the cruise and transmission operation has been completely normal.
