36 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/05/2017

While driving I had noticed that every time I came to a stop light or a stop sign or to even slow down by releasing my foot of the accelerator, my headlights would start to flash. I started to din into the problem by doing research online to see if it was a common problem with my vehicles make and model. Upon reading more and more information I found on the issue I was having with my car. It all seemed to be linked to an alternator issue that Mazda knew about released a recall on it then took the recall away. My car is having the issue for the recall they took away. It poses a danger and a risk while driving. It causes a distraction to the on coming traffic as well as distracts the driver in front of you. I have had cars break hard in front of me thinking I was signaling them for whatever reason. One early morning I had been driving to work on the freeway and my whole car seemed to have shut off and as soon as it went off it came back on.

38 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

When the brakes are applied and the headlights are on, the headlights will flicker or pulse. The flashing headlights are very noticeable when following behind another car. This problem has been happening for many months.

39 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

When applying the brakes, the headlights dim and flicker until the brake pedal is released. Nighttime viability is substantially diminished when applying the breaks and flickering seams to send a signal to other vehicles in front of me. This defect occurs 100% of the time when applying the beaks at night when the headlights are on.

40 Headlights problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

41 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

When driving, the front headlights will flicker/strobe/dim when the brake pedal is engaged or when my foot is removed from the gas pedal. Usually the lights will have a more pronounced flicker at speeds between 45-60 mph; however, I have noticed the flicker at speeds as low as 30 mph. This has happened every morning/night for a week or so and every dealership I have talked with does not know of this issue. I researched a few Mazda forums and found multiple posts regarding a programming update for the vehicle that would be a fix. I am working on getting in touch with Mazdausa for additional support because going to a dealership for diagnostic tests and such is extremely expensive and not at all customer friendly.

42 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Mazda 3. While driving at unknown speeds, the brake pedal was applied and the headlights flashed without warning. The contact called a local dealer (Mazda knoxville, 8814 kingston pike, knoxville, TN 37923) and was informed that the system needed to be updated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 134,000.

43 Headlights problem of the 2015 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

Headlights on low beam are aimed too low and thus have a very short range. Dealer said they were at factory spec so he would not adjust them.

44 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/08/2016

My 2010 Mazda has had a build up of condensation in the driver's headlight for some time and recently the driver's headlight went out. I was advised by the dealership that I would need to replace the entire headlamp which requires removal of the bumper. I would be looking at close to $1000+ to complete the repair. I declined the repair as I wanted to do more research on the safety bulletins that are posted for this same exact issue. The dealership declined to repair the issue based on the published safety bulletins. Recently, condensation has started in my passenger side headlamp and that headlight is now out as well. It should be noted I live in the dry southern California environment so my car is hardly ever exposed to water for condensation to even be building up. This poses a real danger to drivers as the headlights may go out (possibly both) while driving causing very unsafe driving conditions both for those in the vehicle but for other vehicles sharing the road.

45 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/31/2016

Headlights pulse, like others have stated when decelerating, as in coming down a hill while gently braking. I am putting the latest date of occurrence, but its been going on since about summer of 2015. Would like this resolved.

46 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/22/2016

When the car decelerators, or more noticeably, when I'm breaking, the headlights flicker, almost pulsing. It has not gotten me into any trouble yet, I've heard of near hits because other drivers thought they were allowing them to merge in front of them. I'm most afraid that someone will think I'm threatening them by flashing my lights at them. As if I'm angry they cut me off and flashing my lights in anger, for example. It's very rare for this not to happen when it is dark. My boyfriend is also afraid that the lights are going to go out spontaneously, leaving me in the dark.

47 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

My driver sideheadlight is out again. I went to the dealer last month with no headlight and condensation inside the headlight housing. Paid $750 for them to replace the unit. Its barely a month later and the same light is out again after it rained two days before. Its again full of condensation. The headlight housing is faulty as it allows water to come inside and short out hid bulbs and unit.

48 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

The headlights do not work at all for either low or high beams making the vehicle unsafe to drive especially during rain or at night. There is not only moisture but quite a bit of water accumulated inside both headlights. This vehicle was recently purchased on September 2015 as a certified pre own which comes with full limited warranty. I took the vehicle to the dealer to service the issue but they indicated that the repair or replacement was not covered by the warranty. Their estimate to repair it is $1,900. 00 I strongly believe that is more a manufacturer safety issue than a warranty claim. I did research and there are no recalls on the headlights for my particular vehicle, but there are several complains calling it a condensation issue on 2010 Mazda 3s. It was also strange that the dealer rep commented that the vehicle may have been in a crash when the carfax report indicated the opposite and we have thankfully been accident free since its purchase. Please review and advise.

49 Headlights problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Vehicle headlight failed due to faulty seal allowing moisture to enter the headlight assembly. I brought the headlight into the dealer while still under warranty when I noticed moisture in the headlight but before it failed. My claim was denied stating that it was a cosmetic issue. Now this is a safety issue that costs several hundred dollars to correct. Research online indicates many others have experienced similar warranty claim avoidance and failed headlight assemblies.

50 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/27/2015

When decelerating (braking) headlights flicker. This makes night time driving dangerous & difficult.

51 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

When braking or decelerating, the headlights pulse. It looks like we're signaling other drivers at night (although who knows what we're supposedly saying) and it is a serious hazard. This was particularly a problem heading down a mountain at night during a winter storm to have our visibility go in and out. There is already a notice out according to our mechanic, but we received nothing from Mazda and are being charged to reprogram the computer that is supposedly causing the problem.

52 Headlights problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/30/2015

1) after moving the empty passenger seat back a few inches at a red light, passenger airbag deactivation light illuminated on dash and has remained on ever since. At the same time, the airbag light on the instrument cluster began flashing a code 16. There are no visible loose wires or connections under the seat. 2) condensation appearing in driver's side headlight assembly.

53 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/27/2015

Design flaw of headlight has caused condensation to form in headlight assembly causing xenon bulb to short circuit and blow on driver's side headlight.

54 Headlights problem of the 2015 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Headlights are aimed very low and provide zero light above a low vertical cut off point. Took the car to the dealer and they said they aimed the lights higher, but I do not notice a difference. Looked at changing the aim myself, but there is no obvious adjustment mechanism. This is a serious safety issue because it is frequently impossible to see *anything* more than 8, 20, or 70 feet ahead when the grade of the roadway changes in a positive direction, for instance at the bottom of a hill when the roadway begins to transition from level to a positive grade uphill, or as you are traveling downhill, reach the bottom of a hill and the car is pointed downhill but the road ahead is level. This is also a problem when you are on a hill and the grade of the hill changes. The low beam headlights are fine on perfectly level roads, but are a crash waiting to happen anywhere else.

55 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/08/2015

There are (3) existing NHTSA reports on this that I am aware 10037949. 10037655 & 10052155. Purchased a 2010 Mazda 3 off a dealers lot 1. 5 weeks ago. The following day while driving the left head light was out. There was condensate in the lens. The car has hid lights. To access the bulb the car bumper etc. Had to be removed. Local shop replaced both bulbs and ballast. Cost $1,200 +. Three days later the same bulb went out. Shop is now replacing the lens and ballast (again). $1,898. After checking on the internet we found that it a common problem for this car's headlight lense to leak. Some people reported multiple failures with the same problem. Mazda has 3 service bulletins on this problem for this year car. 09-003-13, 09-005-11, & 09-057-10.

56 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

The housing unit of one headlight begain retaining moisture and condensation and subsequently began shorting out. The dealer informed me that the complete housing unit will need to be replaced, and it is at a substantial cost. Now, the second headlight is doing the same.

57 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Driving at night and the vehicle decelerates and apply brakes (which is more noticeable) the headlights flicker. I have had people think I'm a police officer behind them, also had vehicles pull out in front of me because they thought I was flashing my lights for them to go. I have taking the car into Mazda dealer have looked at as well as where I purchased the car from and they have yet to say what's wrong or even fix it. If you disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes it stops flickering for a day or so, but starts back up and at time been worse than previous times.

58 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

Purchased this vehicle on Aug 27th 2014 as a used vehicle and did the initial test drive during the day. A few days later while driving at night I decelerated while on the highway (speed is 55mph) to come to a complete stop at a 4 way intersection. The moment brakes are applied the front headlights flicker and continue to do so until fully stopped. I've tested this at multiple speeds and road types and it happens each time. We live in a heavily populated area with plenty of children as well as wild life and this decreases my chances of seeing them if they run out (even while braking, say if I was doing so slowly a child run out I can e-brake or apply more pressure to brakes to stop quicker. . . Can't do that if I don't see them in time). It also is extremely distracting and annoying. I'm sure other drivers don't appreciate it when it's in their rear view mirrors nor when they are driving towards me on the opposite side of the road. Honestly I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over and ticketed for "illegal modification to headlights" etc. I'm not seeing a recall on this, however there is service bulletins for this exact problem. Why hasn't the pcm or the alternator been recalled? this problem among others I've dealt with since purchasing this vehicle and the fact that problems are being fixed by the manufacture make it to where I'll never purchase another Mazda in the future.

59 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/08/2014

Tl * the contact owns a 2013 Mazda 3. The contact stated that the vehicle¿s headlight assembly was completely melted. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 15,000.

60 Headlights problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

Noticed flickering of headlights during night driving while braking. This headlight flicker was repeatable while night driving and braking at moderate to highway speeds.

61 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

Both headlights shorted out at the same time. One minute they worked and the next the did not. Had to wait to move car and take to dealership till day light since this happened in the dark. Luckily we had stopped so they did not fail while driving. Found out upon inspection this is a problem due to the moisture the headlamp case allows inside. We had complained about this moisture previously back in 2011 and 2012. We had been informed it was a defect just as we had been told with our 2004 Mazda 3. Interesting enough we find out that in the 11 times our vehicle was serviced at galpin Mazda in 2012 there had been a service bulletins on this exact issue and recommended to replace the defective headlamps. Galpin did nothing. Never even mentioned anything but simply responded with " its a known defect. " service bulletin #sb-09-003-13. Another service bulletin #09-005-11, and another #sb-09-057-10. Upon speaking to other Mazda mechanics, we learned this has been an ongoing issue. We had experienced it for years with our 2004 as stated previously but never realized it was the inside condensation causing the bulb to blow. The fact that Mazda knowingly continued manufacturing these defective headlamp casings and never recalled them is unacceptable. What if we had been driving when they failed? as it was we have spent 2 months now dealing with both Mazda and galpin, who both want to wash their hands of any wrong doing. This is unacceptable. This is a safety issue. Mazda knows it. Dealers know it, yet it is allowed to continue. The cost to replace the parts now are over 3 thousand dollars. We are supposed to pay for their constant and knowing errors. That is not acceptable and they need to be stopped and made to fix this problem before somebody dies in an accident with them failing.

62 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Condensation formed inside drivers headlight causing a failure of the drivers side hid (xenon) headlight and ballast. Existing TSB (NHTSA reference #10037655 TSB reference #sb-09-057-10) for this condition. This needs to be upgraded to a recall so Mazda cannot refuse repair due to out of warranty vehicles for time/mileage. This is a known defect as shown in the above referenced TSB and Mazda is refusing to fix when vehicle is out of the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. Corporate Mazda has been in contact with local dealership which has verified that hid lamp/ballast failure was directly caused with condensation from above referenced TSB. After verification from local dealership, Mazda corporate (800-222-5500) refuses to assist with getting vehicle fixed and operating correctly and safely.

63 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

While driving at approx. 45 mph with cruise control engaged; the headlights turned off for about 2 seconds then came back on. When the headlights came back on the traction control light illuminated. The whole issue gave the appearance of part of the electrical system losing power and the power then being restored. During the incident the engine did not appear to lose power, nor did the cruise control disengage.

64 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The headlight have been flickering since a few months after purchasing the car, & it causes inadequate alternator output, it has also caused issues with losing my power steering. The headlight not only flicker when breaking, but have gotten to the point they will completely go out, & will also flicker all interior lights when braking & turning the wheel. I have been pulled over due to police thinking I am flashing my lights when breaking, but was lucky to be able to show the police officer the service bulletin 01-019/13 & he let me go with a warning & strongly advised me to get it fixed. It is now time for my car to go through inspection, & it will not pass with the lights flickering & going completely out. The problem has only continued getting worse to the point the headlight are going completely off while driving during hours when headlights are needed. I have lost my power steering multiple times after starting my car and began driving, with a brand new battery installed by a mechanic, & when I have lost power steering I have almost crashed into the side of my work office & have had to try pulling over to the side of the road due to losing power steering while driving. It is time for action to be taken & this be a recall before someone is killed, GMC can recall for the same computer system upgrade that is needed for my Mazda 3, but have only been told that it is not covered and that I have to pay out of pocket, which I have gotten quotes from several Mazda dealers over the several years I have owned & continue to deal with the issue and it will cost me over $500 to have repaired!! due to not having the money to afford to computer upgrade which I consider a huge safety issue that should be Mazda's problem to fix before they have a class action law suit brought against them, because someone driving a Mazda 3 get seriously injured or serious injure someone else!.

65 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

I have noticed that my headlight assemblies fill up with water and condensation after rain showers or car washes. No modifications have been done to these assemblies.

66 Headlights problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Passenger airbag light will go on and off with nobody in the seat. This happens randomly and not consistently. Sometimes while stationary, sometimes while driving. The dashboard has come apart from the center piece on the dash with the digital display. Car was purchased in texas in 2013, drove to maine in 2015 and driven to virginia since 2018. Progressively gotten worse rear view mirror has strange brown marks inside the mirror making it difficult to see. Owner does not smoke. Strange clunky noise from rear suspension, not consistent very random. Smooth road, bumpy road, fast or slow, the sound just randomly happens from time to time. Headlights form moisture, owner bought new headlights with mechanic install and they started to collect moisture about a year after installation. Owner of vehicle since 2013 to present. Vehicle purchased at approx 60k miles, currently approx 130k miles.

67 Headlights problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/17/2013

While driving at 65 mph on interstate 95 in fort lauderdae, FL both of my headlights failed. I was in total darkness and thank god I remembered my dad saying that your high beams are a backup system. This worked. We have had this car in for service 5 times for lamp failures on headlights always at no cost? now both failed at once, the internet is flooded with with complaints. Is my care safe? I do not trust the dealers, they never charge me for lamp repairs, are they hiding something?.

68 Headlights problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

The headlights on my 2010 Mazda 3s shine 25' distant 7' off the ground Mazda says its designed that way. This is a safety issue. Mazda says the lights are adjusted as high as possible and nothing can be done.

69 Headlights problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Car hit coyote at 75mph. Car never wavered from what it was supposed to do. It saved our lives that night. Headlight not hit by coyote but bares a large "blind spot" on drivers side making car unsafe to drive after dark. Car taken to dealership, dealership says head light is within specs and was compared to another car of the same make and model year and the "blind spot" is normal. This particular Mazda 3 "doesn't like tires". That is what the guy who put on the 3rd full set of tires told me. Mileage 46,000 the car keeps breaking motor mounts and Mazda claims this is all from the accident now 15 months ago. They refuse to fix headlight and I have been told not to drive the car after dark as my insurance company may fight if I should have an accident due to the faulty head light. I have never know a car manufacturer to offer headlights with blind spots but I have an invoice from the dealership saying this is normal on the Mazda 3. These cars are not made to take the impact of a coyote so I can only imagine what would happen to the Mazda 3 should it hit something larger than a dog.
