Mazda3 2009: parking brake often inadequate by itself to keep car from rolling backwards on slight incline. This has occurred twice with my car and once more with a relative who owns the same make, model, and year of this car.
Lifted parking brake lever to engage parking brake, and it came up way further than normal without offering the normal resistance. After three attempts at resetting the brake, it engaged normally. Malfunction occurred again two days later, but this time, I could not get it to engage successfully even after multiple attempts. Dealer diagnosed that the brake lever assembly was intermittently sticking and replaced lever assembly. Two days later, same problem occurred again. Car is 9 months old, 13,500 mi.
Parking brake failed while vehicle was parked. Vehicle rolled down slight decline and slammed into a truck.
Parking brake failed to hold resulting in total loss of car and damage to private property.
Mazda 3 2008 parking brake failed and the car rolled down a slope and crashed into another vehicle.
Car is a 2009 Mazda speed3, one month old. I set the brake of the car and it only went up 2 clicks. The car rolled down the driveway with nobody in the car and hit a tree. Emergency brake hard to pull up to set properly. I did a test on a steep slope, and the ebrake did not hold. A hard yank with two hands made the brake hold, and now the brake will go up 5 clicks with ease and holds.
I purchased my 2005 Mazda 3s during the winter of 2005. For the past 4 years I have religiously had my car serviced by Mazda dealerships consistent with the recommended servicing schedule. Despite this, my rear brakes suddenly ceased Monday. After having my car towed to a Mazda dealership, I was informed that my rear calipers and brake lines had completely rusted through and that they must be replaced along with my rear rotors and rear brake pads - for $2650 (not including the towing fee). My car has less than 38,000 miles on it and was always well-cared for. It raises serious red flags that such an important element could completely corrode in such a short amount of time. In my experience, in cars with much more mileage, I've never encountered such a hazardous mechanical failure.
Emergency brake did not hold, caused damage to car and private property.
2007 Mazda 3 parked on a moderate grade in second gear and with parking brake engaged. After 10-15 minutes car rolled backwards and hit 2 other cars. Mazda was still in gear with brake engaged.
Owner parked vehicle on slight (20%) incline and put on emergency brakes. Vehicle parked for 15 minutes when owner, standing next to vehicle, heard creaking noises. After the noise stopped vehicle started to roll forward, and hit a tree. Had vehicle towed to dealer, but mechanic could not locate any problems with emergency brakes.
