There appeared to be gaps developing on either side of the steering wheel hub. The center panel where the horn and air bag were located. The gaps were becoming increasingly wider to the point where she could actually see mechanisms through the gap. The consumer was concerned , because the hub seemed to be detaching and she feared in the event of an accident, the air bag would not deploy, or inadvertently deploy. The dealer insisted it was a common cosmetic issue describing it as trim deterioration.

13 Structure problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

This is not directly related to the power steering pump recall issue. The recall work has been performed on this vehicle by the dealer. I am writing to complain about a bigger issue regarding "design negligence" by Mazda as it relates to the placement of the power steering pump on this 2008-3. You see, the pump (an itegral part of the steering and vehicle safety control system) is mounted outside the car's frame, just forward of the passenger front tire. It is basically just behind the passenger headlight/foglight/bumper/quarter panel assembly. This location makes it very susceptible to damage in even minor accidents, rendering the vehicle uncontrollable and unsafe in the very instant where control and maneuverability may keep others from being injured or killed. What brought this to my attention was when a deer recently ran into this very location and rendered the vehicle uncontrollable and therefore undrivable. My daughter (who sustained a concussion) was driving the car at the time and was very shocked and surprised that even though the car was technically drivable (minus quarter panel, leadlight/foglight and part of the bumper cover) she could not physically steer the car. In addition, the officer writing up the accident report tried to maneuver the car off of the road to a safer location and was also unable to physically steer the car. There was nothing obstructing the turning of the wheel in either direction. I would hate to think what might have happened if this accident occurred at a higher speed and on a busier roadway or highway. This type of public health safety and welfare issue needs to be investigated and prosecuted. Car manufacturers need to be made to locate critical safety, handling, and manueverability components/equipment in places afforded some reasonable measure of protection and survivability in minor traffic accidents.

14 Structure problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Car hit coyote at 75mph. Car never wavered from what it was supposed to do. It saved our lives that night. Headlight not hit by coyote but bares a large "blind spot" on drivers side making car unsafe to drive after dark. Car taken to dealership, dealership says head light is within specs and was compared to another car of the same make and model year and the "blind spot" is normal. This particular Mazda 3 "doesn't like tires". That is what the guy who put on the 3rd full set of tires told me. Mileage 46,000 the car keeps breaking motor mounts and Mazda claims this is all from the accident now 15 months ago. They refuse to fix headlight and I have been told not to drive the car after dark as my insurance company may fight if I should have an accident due to the faulty head light. I have never know a car manufacturer to offer headlights with blind spots but I have an invoice from the dealership saying this is normal on the Mazda 3. These cars are not made to take the impact of a coyote so I can only imagine what would happen to the Mazda 3 should it hit something larger than a dog.

15 Structure problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

16 Structure problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/04/2009

I have been getting my car regularly maintenanced (and tired rotated and balanced) every six months and I have all the receipts to prove this. Dates as follows: November 14, 2007, March 6, 2008, August 25, 2008, April 9, 2009 and sept 4, 2009. I was informed that my tires were cuppling and that I need all 4 tires now as well as a 4 wheel alignment. There are toyo tires and I have one 34,000 miles on them. I was hearing rattling sound coming from the console, dashboard and passenger side door while I drive. I was told it was wires lose and they fixed it. . . . But in fact they did not. I have also had problems with the power-train (reflashing) and battery died before the car was even 6 months old. They changed the battery and supposely fixed the power train.

17 Structure problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/07/2008

18 Structure problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/07/2008

Paint of inferior quality. Vehicle paint finish appears normal in medium to dim lighting. However, under bright lighting, microscratches are apparent over the entire vehicle. New car stock at the dealer I purchased from as well as another dealer in the state shows the same defects.

19 Structure problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/02/2006

I recently purchased a 2007 Mazda3. The air conditioning vent above the pedals is close enough to where one's foot will get caught on it when trying to move one's foot between the brake and gas pedals. This creates a potentially hazardous situation where the driver may be unable to apply the brakes because his foot is caught on the air vent.

20 Structure problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/25/2006

The illumination of the center information display panel is very poor-to read it requires the driver to take his eyes off the road too long which is a safety hazard my dealer recognizes this problem but states there is no "factory bulletin" to repair the problem.

21 Structure problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/05/2006

2006 Mazda 3 makes a noise at the rear of the vehicle. Three months after the vehicle was purchase the consumer began to hear an annoying clicking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer determined that eh problem was not mechanical and that the vehicle needed to be taken to an auto body shop. The vehicle has been at the body shop for seven weeks. They claim that the unibody weld had to be repaired but when the consumer test drove the vehicle the noise was still present.
