36 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

[I bought my car used, and it came with the tpms light on. I was told it was because the passenger rear sensor wasn't transmitting. I check my tire pressure often, and ignore the tpms light because those sensors are expensive! more on this later. ] as I was accelerating from a stop light a few weeks ago, I realized I was getting a flat tire on the driver front. I pulled over and, as I was taking the lug nuts off, noticed the valve stem had disappeared. After I got to the tire shop and they were inspecting the tire, the tech informed me the flat was because the entire valve had fallen out of the tire! they also informed me the passenger rear tire did not have a faulty sensor; the valve had been replaced (by the previous owner) with a non-sensor valve. I found it strange that now two tire valves had been replaced on my car. When I researched this online, I discovered my model year has several complaints of the valves breaking or falling out! and now my driver rear tire is losing air, so I suspect that valve needs replaced, as well. I contacted Mazda and was surprised to find their email response included no mention at all of the tire valves - the entire point of my contacting them. I found other owners online stating Mazda is aware of this problem, but refuses to issue a recall. At this point, I have one replaced valve without a sensor (courtesy of the previous owner), the $80 valve I just replaced (with a sensor), one valve I suspect is leaking and needs replacedn, and one valve that may fail at any time like the one a few weeks ago. Mazda needs to address this and rectify it. They're lucky that valve failed before my road trip on the 9th, when I would have been going 70 mph on the highway! and I don't appreciate having to spend $320 to correct Mazda's mistakes.

37 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/03/2016

Tire sensor malfunctions and punctures the tire. I had already replaced tire sensors on all the wheels and it is happening every year. I only had 44,000 miles and I had to replace all the tires and tire sensors. I had the car parked yesterday night and all the tires had good pressure and drove in the morning out the driveway. Within less than 0. 5 driving my front passenger wheel got flat. After towing to dealer, I found out it was due tire sensor.

38 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/03/2016

Tire valve stem on 2010 Mazda 3 corroding and braking apart. The first valve stem broke off while I was putting air in my tires. Now two more are visibly corroded and the nut that holds the valve stem to the wheel are breaking apart (one of them half the nut fell off).

39 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/30/2015

Steering wheel locking up while driving, unable to turn the car.

40 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/16/2015

Four new tires installed last summer. Since then two have failed while driving. The first time I thought my daughter hit something when the right front totally failed (replaced new tire under 5000 miles). She said it happened while driving slow thru neighborhood. Then the left front failed a few months later and she had it replaced. She was told the problem is the tpms, and that the right rear will probably fail too.

41 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

The tires on this car wore out by 30000 miles and they got extremely loud sooner than that. I hit a nail and 2 different tire shops refused to repair the tires because of uneven tread wear. I always take the car in for inspections and maintenance on time. I went to the manufacturers website and found the safety and quality customer ratings on the stock tires are extremely low. I have noticed the car did not have very good traction from the start forcing me to go below the recommended speed limit on turns. I called the manufacturer to ask if there is a recall on the tires and they said no, but they did volunteer that those tires were specially ordered for that model car to make it appear to have better fuel economy. The fuel economy dropped a bit once I had safer tires installed. It seems to me that Mazda is using cheap unsafe tires to artificially inflate the fuel economy window sticker at the expense of customer safety.

42 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

In the summer of 2014, I was traveling on a major highway going approximately 60-65 mph. My tire sensor light came on and, within just a few miles, my front driver's side tire blew out. I was able to safely guide my car to the shoulder without having an accident. Upon exiting my car and looking at my tire, I noticed the area around my valve stem was completely corroded. How I did not have an accident is an absolute miracle. On Wednesday, July 22, 2015, my tire sensor light came on. Knowing I would be traveling approximately 150 on that Saturday, I checked my tire pressure to see my front passengers side was down approximately 5 psi from the recommended 32 psi. I put air in my tire Friday night and went away on Saturday. On my more than 1 hour drive, my tire sensor came back on. I stopped at a gas station to find my tire psi was in the teens. I felt all around my tire but found nothing wrong. I filled my tire back up to 32 psi and continued on my way. Shortly after, my tire sensor light came on yet again. When I stopped at the next gas station to put more air in it, I noticed the area around my valve stem was completely corroded. It was so corroded I could move the valve stem and allow large amounts of air to come out. I ultimately was able to put on my spare tire but am now looking at a more than $200 valve stem/sensor replacement per a phone quote from my local Mazda dealership. As I spoke to different mechanics, they all seem to be well aware of the problem so it's a bit frightening there has not been a recall.

43 Wheel problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

While driving on the highway I heard a loud clatter like a rock in the wheel well and the saw something bounce out from the side of my car. Moments later the car began to shake and veer to the left. I was able to move over and pull of to the side of the highway to find that my valve stem on my wheel had lost the nut holding it in place so that the valve fell into the tire leaving a large hole. After having the tire replaced (it was destroyed) I saw that the valve (which was part of the tpms) was corroded and could be easily snapped in half. Another of these valves had failed four months prior so I think this is a common problem. Mazda refuses to believe there is anything wrong with their part and suggests that I continue to drive with the remaining sensors.

44 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/22/2015

Tpms blow out while driving in the highway. Here is an image of my third tpms that would have blown out while driving in the highway. Good thing I noticed this because I now know to check for it. . Read more...

45 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/18/2015

In the last year and a half, since July 2015, I have replaced three tire monitoring valves on my 2010 Mazda 3. This morning I went to drive my car the monitor warning light came on the dash. This will be the fourth replacement. And the repair is not cheap through the dealer. It is about $200 for each valve. I read some bad experiences where people have had a tire blow out. I pray that does not happen to me.

46 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda 3. While driving 65 mph, the rear passenger side tire exploded. The tire was replaced with a spare. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the tpms sensor was corroded and the nut was fractured. The tire was replaced and the sensor was replaced with regular valve stems. The contact also stated that the dashboard was melting, which caused a glare from the sun. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000. Updated 09/14/lj.

47 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

2 tpms sensor valve stems were corroded, while filling the tires with air the stems broke off causing tires to go flat. The remaining 2 did not look any better. Had tire dealer replace all 4 at $280 dollars.

48 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/30/2015

When I attempted to remove valve stem cover the valve stem cracked and came apart. I had to have the complete tpms valve replaced. I then noticed that the other valve stems looked in the same condition. The Mazda dealer said that this was just aging and that the rest were o. K. I am not sure if they are. I said that the stems should not crack just by removing the cover.

49 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/30/2015

I purchased this vehicle brand new in July of 2012. In may of this year (2015), I had a tire blow out on me (oem bridgestones) while traveling at 75mph on the freeway. At the time, my car had barely 30,000 miles on it. Of course, they are not warranted. How is it that Mazda has a 3 yr. /36,000 mile warranty on their vehicles, but can't manage to equip it with tires that would do the same?!.

50 Wheel problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

Brake calipers and pistons were defected and wouldn't release after you released the brake. The wheels had to be moving for the brakes the be releases. Causing the the brake pads to grind down to nothing and have metal on metal contact. It was worse in the front then the back. I received all new brake calipers because they couldn't be fixed.

53 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

The valve stems on the wheels are corroding and one completely fell off while attempting to take a cap off of it to add air. These could potentially result in rapid air loss from the tires and an accident. I was lucky that it happened when I wasn't driving.

54 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/18/2015

After a mechanics check it was found: 1) slight feathering/edgewear/cupping on all tire's and 2) power steering warning light on ign on however clears on engine start. This is all despite full maintenance history as per Mazda guidelines. The problem causes significant tire noise when driving. Although tire thread on the vehicle is at 87%, it was recommended to replace all four tires at time of inspection. Wheel alignment shows the vehicle is within factory guidelines for the vehicle. Possible issue could be flaws in shock/strut manufacturing as the vehicle is well within replacement timeframe for these parts.

55 Wheel problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

Tire wear to the point of replacement @ 21k miles.

56 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

Three times in the last 18 months I have had the tpms sensors break off while driving on the highway causing the tire to run flat instantly posing a safety threat. Each time I take the tire to the shop and nobody can find anything in the tire and the conclusion is that the tpms was brittle and broke off. I am now uncomfortable driving my Mazda 3 because I never know when my tire is going to blow -- not to mention I've had to pay to replace perfectly good tires every time one of the tpms go bad.

57 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

Took vehicle in for tire rotation. Noticed loud humming noise in front tires after rotation. Took car back to mechanic to look at it. I was told the front tires were cupped but would pose no problem for driving. Gas mileage has gone down 2 mpg since then.

58 Wheel problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Driving south on ih-35 in san marcos, texas, a blowout occured in right rear tire. Driving conditions were dry and sunny. The tire is a toyo a20, size p205/55r16 89h. The inner tire wall seperated completely from the rest of the tire. Driver did not lose control and was able to pull over. These tires were original equipment on vehicle when purchased from dealer in 2011.

59 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

I had a mechanic rotate my tires and noticed the front tires were making alot of noise. I returned to the mechanic for an inspection and he said that the tires currently on the front that were on the rear have severe cupping probably due to a suspension problem. The mechanic recommended taking the car to the dealer although there is no recall notice for the problem. I had the mechanic rotate the tires back. The tires rotated back to the rear still make noise but it is less noticeable.

60 Wheel problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

Premature tire cupping of rear tires. All tires rotated according to Mazda maintenance schedule. Result in tire road noise, uneven wear, early replacement. Rear camber setting is possible issue.

61 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

The tire pressure light came on as I was driving on the highway. When I stopped to fill my tires, the force of the air hose blew the tire pressure sensor into my tire. I had to have the sensor replaced, and was told that the other 3 sensors were close to wearing through as well.

62 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

Tpms valve stem broke while checking tire pressure. Took vehicle to tire dealer and found that 3 tpms sensors had cracks in valve stems.

63 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

All four wheels are rusting. Rust is so bad that a flat tire cannot be changed, the wheels are rusted completely to the axles. Car has never been exposed to salt water and was purchased new.

64 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The tire valve stem cracked while checking air pressure on one of the tires. After that the other stems looked like they were ready to fail. Had them all replaced.

65 Wheel problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

My tire pressure light was on, so I pulled into a convenience store that has a combination inflation-pressure check machine. I checked one tire & had no issue. I checked/filled the next tire & didn't notice an issue immediately. I went on to the 3rd tire, and heard a pop, then a hiss. All air was leaving the tire. I then noticed the second tire was doing the same thing. According to the tire store, it was the valve stem pressure sensors. The tire store keeps the parts on hand because they are "seeing a lot" of this with the Mazda 3s, that it's a "design flaw" that has since been rectified on newer models. If I had only filled one tire & hadn't noticed the deflation, and then gotten on the highway, I could've been in a serious accident with my son in the car. This angers if it's so common of a problem, and it could cause accidents, why is there no recall??.

66 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

Low tire pressure light came on while driving. Pulled in to the gas station to check tires and noticed a flat rear tire. Went to put air in and saw the valve stem was gone. Had it towed and was told I need to replace all of them. They are all cracked. Just got back from a vacation. Glad this didnt happen on the tunpike. Seems very soon for this to happen. Been driving 40 years. This is a first. Very expensive and dangerous. 40 ,000 miles seems pretty soon for this.

67 Wheel problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

While driving down freeway in clear warm weather, the passenger rear tire had the side wall blow out. This produced about a 2 inch square hole in the tire.

68 Wheel problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

While exiting a traffic circle, I heard a pop and the car swerved. I corrected but was too late as the front wheel hit the curbing causing the aluminum rim to crack on the passengers side. Upon inspection I found a large rectangular piece of the tire side wall missing. The side wall separation was the tire on the passenger rear side. The rapid deflation caused the car to swerve while exiting the turn. Fortunately I was traveling at a low rate of speed!.

69 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

While driving on the highway my tire pressure monitor system (tpms) light came on to indicate a low tire. I pulled into the gas station near my house right after and check my tire pressures. When checking the driver side rear tire pressure with a tire pressure gauge the tpms sensor and stem pushed in and air blasted out, blowing several pieces of the sleeve that keeps the stem in place off of the wheel/stem. I picked up the 2 remaining pieces (one third of the sleeve was missing and presumed to have fallen off while driving) and they had cracked lengh-wise and had a large amount of white corrosion in the threads. The remaining stem was also covered in white corrosion on the threads and the tire had lost most of its pressure. I still have those pieces of the cracked tpms sensor sleeve if needed to be examined. I took the vehicle and wheel to the Mazda dealership where they inspected that wheel as well as the others. They stated that 2 of my other tpms sensors had cracked sleeves that could come off at any time in addition the the one that had failed. If one of those had failed on one of my front wheels this could have caused a loss of control while driving.

70 Wheel problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/18/2014

In the Mazda 3, the tpms sensor is connected to the air valve. The tpms sensors break easily, causing the tire to deflate. If the outside part of the tpms sensor breaks from corrosion or being hit against a curb, the tire will deflate. I have had 3 tpms sensors break since I had the car, which has only been 4 years (approx 39,000 miles), and is expensive to replace. My tires are less than 3 years old. The part of the tpms exposed on the outside will corrode, and if the outside part breaks off, your tires deflate. This is a common problem for Mazda owners. These things break and then cause a flat, leaving the driver in a possible emergency situation. The reason for the tpms sensor is so drivers don't have blow outs, but the emergency light is very nonspecific, so the only way you know what the problem is is when the flat has already occurred, which is unnecessarily caused by the tpms sensor. This latest incident involved me stranded in the country, yet another tpms sensor replacement ($200 approx), a new tire, and an alignment - almost $500 total. If the tpms sensor hadn't broken, the flat would not have occurred at all.
