1 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 08/03/2023

On several occasions, most of which happened while in motion, my vehicle has stalled out of the blue with no warning. It seems to mostly happen when I’m slowing down or when I’m making a right hand turn and try to accelerate, suddenly there’s no power to the engine. I have to put the vehicle into park and restart it. Twice while slowing down for a red light. Twice immediately after making a right handed turn, and once, when entering roundabout, after yielding. This is happened at least five times. The most recent incident occurring in August 2023.

2 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

My check engine light came on. We took it to a mechanic who hooked it up to the computer. It read dtc p2096. When the mechanic looked it up, he noticed that there was a recall issued previously on this specific problem. The description said target ef feedback system to lean- manual and automatic transmission. When plugging in my VIN number it said it was not affected. But my question is if I'm having the same problem and it affected the same year that my vehicle was made, why is my vehicle not on that recall list?.

3 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 09/02/2021

The glue and seal around back windshield glass is separating. Glass is loose and rattles. This appears to be an ongoing issue with Mazda. The defects can cause window to separate while driving resulting in flying debris hitting another vehicle.

5 Equipment problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

There are two safety issues with this Mini van. The first one is for the door handles/latches on the back sliding doors on drivers and passenger side. There was a recall for it and apparently it was fixed in 2009 but has been a problem again that is getting worse. When I try to open the door to get my child out the door handle does not engage, I have to try to open from inside and sometimes that does nto engage, so then I have to slide the lock back and forth and continue to try to open the door until it finally opens. This obviously is a big safety problem if we were ever to be in an accident etc. I called Mazda and they said recall is closed and they can not help me unless I want to pay diagnostic fee of 140 and then whatever the repair is on top of that. The second problem is the brakes. They do not work well under ideal conditions, but when it rains sometimes they stop working all together. I've almost been in an accident several times when they suddnely go soft and just stop working. I have to continuously pump the brakes to try to get any traction and then stop driving until they dry out. We've had the entire brake system replaced and mechanics say nothing is wrong, but obviously this is just a bad design and something is definitely wrong. We can't afford a new car but don't' feel safe in this car, not sure what to do about it.

6 Equipment problem of the 2015 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 02/23/2019

My vehicle was recall for strut failure on the rear lift gate. The recall repair was completed mid 2017. Recently the struts failed. The carr was parked in my driveway when I opened the door and it wouldn't stay up. Mazda is unwilling to replace the defective parts (without charge) stating the part is out of warranty. I purchased this vehicle new and it currently has 18,500 miles in the odometer. This vehicle has been gently used and this part should not have failed so quickly. It is poor practice to replace one defective part with another defective part.

7 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 08/17/2018

Since purchase from dealer, the tires consistently developed edge wear /cupping on the inner edge of both front and back. The first set were replaced after approx 23k miles. After approx 25k miles the same pattern of wear had occurred front and back. At first when the car was purchased, alignment was inspected and I was told the matter was probably due to poor tires. With the same problem occurring again, I've contacted Mazda for assistance.

8 Equipment problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/24/2018

There is a current recall on my vehicle involving the rear hatch. It may drop randomly and with 2 children I find it extremely irresponsible that this has not been resolved since 9/2016. I do not know if there is a certain amount of time manufacturers have to fix a recall but, I find this unacceptable.

9 Equipment problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/21/2018

The sliding doors seem to be frozen and they will not latch properly. One day while my daughters were in the car with me the doors slid open after I drove away and they thought they had closed the doors. The other two days the door did not slide open but the light indicated the door was open but we hadn't used the doors we only unlocked them.

11 Equipment problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

Yesterday while filling SUV with gas the car was running and in park. I had processed my debit card, chose gas and was in the filling process when the car rolled away- spilling gas as nozzle was in car. I ran after the vehicle and fell trying to catch it. It hit a curb, bounced back and continued accelerating forward. Somehow I managed in extreme panic mode to catch up with the car- get the door open and get the car back into park mode. I was alone. The writer knob was in park or I could never have gotten that far with the debit- the gas capture and the nozzle. I am so sore from the fall and chase. Others saw what happened and came to my aid. I have not gone to a doctor. Got home drenched in gasoline as car took off while pumping and iced myself everywhere. My back is killing me and and my arms from catching a moving vehicle while trying to open the drivers side door. Someone in front of this car would have been mowed down or a car in front would have been hit. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. So disturbed. Car has less than 5000 miles on it and I will sell it to carmax next week. What happened to make a car in park getting fuel just take off is beyond comprehension. There was no hill as I am in flat FL. Every part of me is in pain today. Car was stationary being filled with gas when it tore away from the gas pump and proceeded straight- it accelerated. It was in park.

12 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Vehicle has a several rust problem for last 3-4 years. It develops mostly on the body panel surrounding the rear wheel on the passenger side. I have come across several other Mazda 5 with similar issue. A mechanic also confirmed noticing this issue with Mazda 5s. The Mazda 5 models after 2010 does not seem to be impacted by this problem though. Additionally my other car, Suzuki aerio which is much 6 years older (2004 model) that was subjected to similar handling and parking conditions does not have an iota of rust on the body.

13 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

Sunroof shattered while doing normal driving. Nothing hit the sunroof or the car, the sunroof simply shattered and glass fell on me, and my children. We were driving on a state highway going about 70 (the speed limit). There were no other vehicles around or in front of me.

15 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA5

17 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

This is what is going on with my car. I almost had an accident because of the power steering assist is suddenly lost by reducing my ability to steer the vehicle. Mazda said there was no recall on my car so they cant help me. Mazda is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles manufactured from April 2, 2007 through November 30, 2008. These vehicles may have a condition in which a sudden loss of power steering assist could occur at any time while driving the vehicle. Consequence: power steering assist is suddenly lost reducing the driver's ability to steer the vehicle as typically expected, and increasing the risk of a crash.

18 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

The passenger side rear slide door would not stay close. Happened twice now.

19 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

As I hit highway cruising speed, the glass on my sunroof exploded. Fortunately I had the sun shade closed. However, I was in the middle of nowhere with no shoulder to pull off on. Part of the glass was sucked out and blew back behind me. There was no other traffic on the road, and no possibility of the glass being struck or damaged. Just shattered. Exploded. With my kids in the car!.

20 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

I was driving mazada 5 and stopped for traffic light as it was red. As the light turned green, I moved my foot from brake to accelerator paddle, the car started going in reverse direction. I immediately applied brakes, I tried to accelerate again and again the car was going in reverse. No I did not have my car on reverse gear, the car was on "d" drive all the time. I turned off the car and restarted the car again and out the car on "d" and again the car went on reverse. I tried this process again, this time all the car dashboard lights came on and car did not start. I immediately called 911, on 5th July (Sunday) around 3:00pm. My call details can be received. I towed my car to dealership and they are suggesting engine failure. The car can no way have engine failure. If it was engine failure how can the car go on reverse? I am thankful to god that I did not hit the car behind I had a 4 year old child in my car. This is a serious issue with this car. I would suggest people are aware of this major issue as this can lead to major accidents. Also, I got it serviced 3 months back and no issue was identified. I like Mazda 5 Mini van I have been driving for about 4 years but this incident has great setback about Mazda in my mind. I also have Mazda cx-7 that I am so scared to drive. I can never imagine the car going into reverse while in drive mode. This is life threatening defect in the car. Thank you and god bless you. P. S. The vehicle speed was between 0-5 mph, the speed when you take foot of brake and press speed accelerator.

21 Equipment problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

Throw a rod.

22 Equipment problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

On multiple occasions now when water gets into the door (car wash, melted snow, etc. ) and then temperature drops, ice inside the latch mechanism prevents the door from latching properly. The door will only relatch when the ice is melted, otherwise it will close most of the way but the door ajar light remains on since it is not properly latched. There have been times where the light goes off and we think it is properly latched only to see the light come back on again while driving.

23 Equipment problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

Tpms / tire valve stem leaked air from tire. This is the second tpms occurrence within last 2 months (from 2 different sensors). Service shop said that it was corroded.

24 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 04/04/2013

After purchasing the vehicle I noticed from day one, there was something wrong in the rear tires for brake assembly. Each time I'd visit the shop I was told everything was fine. I believe somewhere around 12,000 miles I noticed the tires were getting bald. They check the alignments shortly after the car was purchased and said everything was fine. Later I had another alignment done because the vehicle seem to pull more to the left. They said it was a little bit out of alignment but everything was okay. When I questioned him on the tires which by the way I had to replace one while on the trip. Their reply with the same these are cheap tires put on by the manufacturer and should not last anymore 12,000 miles. After getting nowhere I finally went to tire kingdom and replaced all four tires at my cost. I felt the dealer should have contacted the manufacturer and see if this could've been resolved. No luck.

25 Equipment problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

I am pressing charges against the Mazda company for failing to correctly diagnose my car when I sent it to be repaired and for causing damage to my engine by telling me it was ready to be driven again. I am also pressing charges against Mazda for putting used tires on my new car, making it unsafe to drive. My story is very long. I have many documents I can submit to be used against them. Please give me the case number and a way I can submit my documents.

26 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

Tires: the 2012 Mazda 5 gt standard tires have developed major side wall buddle/blisters on the toyo proxes a18 205/50/r17 on two separate tires with only 12,000 miles. Mazda and toyo replaced the first one and declined to replace the second one. I replaced all 4 tires for the safety of my family and others on the road.

27 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 11/22/2011

My check engine light when on and I went to the dealer and they said my evaporative emission system leak detection pump (part# aj51-18-581a) needed to be replaced. This happened again and again; I replaced it a total of 3 times in less than 5 years. First time was in 11/21/2011, then again on 7/31/2013 and again on 1/2/2015. There is an obvious defective in craftmenship if I had to change the part 3 times in less than 5 years. Please help me.

28 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

The glass panel of 2008 Mazda5 moonroof exploded on highway with no apparent reason. Luckly the inside cover was in place and not many broken pieces fell down from the gap. After a search on the internet, the issue seems not uncommon among Mazda cars and minivans.

29 Equipment problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

Drivers side floormat retention hole separates after < 5000 miles allowing mat to move forward so that clutch pedal catches on mat. When clutch pedal released it picks up the mat so that next time the clutch is pedal is pressed the mat also catches on the brake pedal causing unexpected braking.

30 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 02/18/2009

Power steering failure. Normal mixed driving, highway & city stop & go, while waiting in a drive thru for coffee, steering wheel became almost immovable, would still turn to normal limits both right & left, however the effort required was very high. Returned car to dealer under warranty noticing that steering effort remained constant throughout the drive. Effort required was not dependent on speed, or direction.

31 Equipment problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

Update - tire wear/suspension. I contacted Mazda USA via e-mail on 5/31/13. I received a response concerning this matter and was given a canned response but it was basically "sorry for your luck" you will need to take to a Mazda dealer to see what steps "you" can take to ensure a better life for your vehicle and to try to avoid such costly repairs. There was no offer to assist. I called the rep and was basically told the same thing. I asked how many reports of the allignment/tire wear issues were reported to them and was told they would not provide that information. I've re-checked NHTSA's web page and noted these issues from 2006 to 2011 models are heavely documented. Pages and pages of the same problem exists. With the uneven tire wear of Mazda 5 vehicles happening to the inner wall of the tires, a regular driver can not see, the outside of the tire appears to have plenty of tread, while the inside of the tire is practly bald. This causes potential blow outs, and driving hazards - both my blow outs - inner wall wear! please help ASAP!.

32 Equipment problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA5

Failure Date: 12/13/2006

I purchased a 2007 Mazda 5. This is a decent car but at colder temperatures the vehicle will stall and shutter about 1-3 minutes after start up. The colder it gets and the more miles that the car gets on it the more often this occurs. The dealership told me that this is a common issue and that Mazda has told them to flash again the computer. That was done and did not fix the issue. It is very dangerous if I pull out in traffic and this vehicle fails I am hauling myself and my husband and 4 kids that is going to be something that is Mazda's fault for not remedying the situation. This now occurs after driving and coming to a slow or a stop. Also when the temperatures are from 35-40 degrees the front right wheel makes an awful noise sometimes squeaking and then sometimes a grinding noise. The dealership informed me that it is "heavy, and excessive grease in the ball joint". Now that the temperature is warmer you cannot hear this anymore. The vehicle has 13,000 miles and while driving on the interstate at 60-65 mph and you put on the brakes the steering wheel shakes and acts as if the brakes are warped. When the temperature is hot outside the a/c works poorly with a temp out of the vents at 47 degrees. When stopping at a drive through resturant or at the bank the smell of burning antifreeze is very noticable. There is no visable leaks but the smell of antifreeze is evident. This is a poor designed, overpriced, not advertised vehicle that Mazda should work out the bugs in, or give the money back to the customers. This car has been in the shop 7 times since new for these issues that Mazda said they dont know how to fix yet. I have given them time and the opportunity now my lemon law will be running out and I dont want stuck with a lemon.
