Headlights went out for no reason. Had to pull over and bump the headlights to make them work. Checked the fuse and all electrical components at autoshop. They found nothing, but said that they have seen this in Mazda 6 cars before and there is a fault in the design nor is there any solution to the issue. . Read more...

Took my 2010 Mazda 6 to the dealership for an oil change. As part of their safety check they reported that both of my low beam headlights were out. I was quoted $172. 00 for replacing the bulbs. When I got home I went to u-tube to see how difficult this was to warrant the charge. One of the videos showed a Mazda 3 owner with a similar problem, the passenger side low beam out. He tapped the outer lens with his fist and the light came on. I went out and tried the same on my Mazda 6 and both headlights came on and were normal. It is obvious that Mazda has a safety issue with there headlight wiring or connections.

Headlight bulbs go out often, have to bang on the light to get it to go back on, I can change bulbs and it will go a couple of months before it starts to go out again. Have to take the bumper off to change the light bulb so it is a hassle. After checking the internet I see there are a whole lot of Mazda owners with the same problem.
We have replaced passenger side low beam and driver side lowbeam lights since March 2015. After reading countless reviews over last couple of months, many many people have replaced more often than this. There is an obvious design flaw because a slight rap on affected headlight will make it temporarily work. There should be a recall by Mazda to fix this issue very soon. .

The low beam headlights stopped working. The bulb is functional but there is a problem with the connection . If I bang on the headlight assembly the bulb starts working.

The passenger headlight will go out on my 2011 Mazda 6 even though the bulb and fuses are still intact and working properly. It worked when I parked my car and turned them off manually and then did not come back on the next time I started my car and turned the lights on. It is definitely a flaw from Mazda as numerous people have had this same problem. It is not only the 2011 models, search for "Mazda headlight issue" and a variety of the Mazda 6's are having this same issue.
I have replaced the low beam bulbs 2 times since I got the car 2/2014. It's crazy cause once got out . Then you can hit it and it won't come back on only for like a week or so then the other side goes out now I'm driving around town with no headlights only got high beams sounds like the steering wheel is about to fall off or the power steering pump is about to go out replace the brakes 2 times already since I've had the car just terrible.
The bulbs on my vehicle seem to blow out within a month or 2. We tried different bulbs and it still happens. We are spending tons of money replacing headlights and the car is only driven a couple miles a day.
Purchased car used 08/02/14 first Mazda purchase experience) low beam headlight was out, had it replaced 11/06/14. Now both low beams are out on 05/12/15. Began looking on internet and found there is a common complaint that Mazda's "eat low beam headlights". This, in my opinion, is a dealer problem and a safety issue. We shouldn't have to continually replace headlights. We haven't even had the car a year (although used, new to us. Who knows how long the former owners had to deal with this issue), and we are having to replace the first replacement 6 months later and now the 1st time for the other one. Being that that is unusual, I began searching online. According to what I found, we'll be doing this again. Therefore, I am hoping that with your help and investigation, there will be a recall in which Mazda can pick up the tab which, apparently, rightly belongs to them. Following are just a few of the complaints I found. . Read more...

When driving on the highway my driver side low beam headlight randomly went out. I tried changing bulb, wiggling cables to see if there was a lose connect and headlight would not turn back on. Went to the dealership and they said no know issues and I would have to make an appointment to look into the wiring but would not be able to make an appointment until Monday. I then started searching the internet and found a video of a 2009 Mazda 6 with the same issue I was having only on passenger side. The guy in the video lightly hit the headlight assembly on the top and the light just came on. I went to my car and did the same thing since so many others that saw video posted this worked for their Mazda 6 cars ranging from years 2009-2012 and when I lightly hit the headlight assembly the light came on. Please look into this headlight assembly issue and for references here is the website for the video. . Read more...
At around 50,000 miles, I had a headlight (low beam) go out on me. I had it replaced on the driver side. A few weeks later, the passenger side headlight went out and had to get that replaced. These are hard to get to if you do not have the right tools so each time I had to take it in for service. At 65,000 miles, I had my engine and battery light come on. I turned the car off and then back on and they went away. I then tried locking the car, and my car will not lock from the inside or with my remote. The car will unlock, but will not lock no matter what I do. Tested battery and all fuses and everything is good there. T.
My break routers are completely warped! after 6 months of having my car my breaks have gone out multiple times, I don't not drive my car long distances or even on a daily basis. I can be going as slow as 25 mph and when I go to break my car will start to shake (not much but noticeable) this is very dangerous due to the fact it can cause loss of control while breaking. I have taken my car to the dealer and had it worked on under a "one time" warranty meaning they will maintenance the break once at no cost to me. Each time I have gone or spoken to my dealer they say they can't figure out why it keeps happening and even said it could be normal wear and tear (which is not the case). I am apart of a regional Mazda club and everyone with a Mazda 6 (2009-12) seem to have the exact same problem with this. Also, the tire pressure light stays on. Almost immediately after I purchased my car the light came on followed by the loud beeping sound that warns you that your tire pressure is low. I called my dealer and they looked at it and told my I just need air. Well the very next day the light came on and the loud beeping followed. A long with that my passenger seat air bag light keeps say that the air bag is off, and the passenger seat low beam headlight has issues with stay on.
I have had to replace my front driver side low beam headlight 4 times. No other light has gone out on the car. I have read multiple stories about people having this issue.
Headlights went out, March 2014 - 20,662 miles; September 2014 - 36,107 miles - October 2014 - 36,669; February 2015 - 47,153; March 2015 - 48236 miles; June 2015 - 60,089; low beams in all incidents.

The brakes have been replaced a total of 14 times starting at 18,896 miles, it was recommended to be replaced at 16,578. The headlights have been replaced 15 times starting at 20,662 miles. Also at the time of the 1st brake replacement, the right shock had to be replaced. I have been pulled over several times within 2 weeks after having lights replaced to tell me they were out again.
I've been replacing both of my headlights every 6 months. This is the third time since I have owned this vehicle that I had to buy replacement bulbs. I took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with the electrical system but hear I am replacing the same low beam bulbs again.
Low beams failed on both headlights with in first year, attempted to replace bulb several times, finally replaced entire head lamp assemblies, with in first 2 months low beams have failed again. Attempts to replace bulb are still not effective.
Defective headlight, low beams go out for no reason. If you hit the assembly the light comes back on. . Read more...
I own a 2008 Mazda6 - and my one headlight has gone out 9 times in the last 2 and a half years. I've had mechanics look at it, they've put numerous brands of headlights in the car an regardless it goes out within a couple months - they all say it's a short, or a bad socket.

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated while driving into the residential driveway, the passenger side low beam headlight burned out. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 53,855 and the current mileage was 54,200.
I have owned my vehicle since Aug 2013, and have replaced the headlights on driver and passenger side 4 times already. This last time I had both headlights blow out on me at the same time I don't understand why this isn't recalled yet. I see many complaints regarding this issue.
Discovered excessive condensation following the outage of the right passenger low beam headlight. Outage to the headlight renders the vehicle unsafe and unfit for driving in situations that require usage of headlights until repaired. Condensation also observed in driver headlamp, however light is still currently functioning. Resulting damage includes replacement of entire headlight structure and components due to water related damage and subsequent headlight failure.
Front headlights have been replaced 3x in 1 year. I have purchased upgraded bulbs which have now gone out within 2 months of the change, they did not supply any additional light and have not lasted any longer before burning out than the cheaper lights. Headlight causing difficulty with night driving. Lights appear to be facing downward and beam is very low causing poor visability, almost causing me to run off the road, mostly having to use high beams during night driving and constantly having to turn off when a driver is coming towards to me to avoid blinding them with high beams. I have reported this to Mazda with nothing more be said than thanks for reporting this . I also had the same thing happen while driving a rental of the same make, model and year. I had the rental for 2-3 months and the front headlights also went out and the headlights were very dim.
My drivers side front headlight issue first began about 50k miles (oct. 2012). The headlight went out and I went to replace the bulb but it wouldn't turn on. My mechanic fixed the brakes around the same time and took around the block, went over a bump and the bulb came back on. I've had issue ever since. Usually I can give it a little tap and it will come back on. Not this time! ive replaced the bulb twice since 2013, it's at 80,555 miles now and it won't come back on at all! there should be a recall, for I've searched the interent and found many Mazda 6's in many model years that have this same issue. My drivers seat belt just began getting stuck at 80,300 miles. The day before father's day was the first time it happened. (June 20, 2015). I went to target and I couldn't get out of my seatbelt when I turned the car off. I jiggled it and pushed on it repeatedly until I heard it click again and it finally released. This is incredibly unsafe and I have to be very careful how I put my seatbelt on until I hear the "right click" or it won't let me out. My cruise went out on my way back from ok in Aug. 2013, right around 65,000 miles I believe. I was coming up on the CA border and had to stop for inspection and as I slowed down, my car began lunging forward despite the fact that I applied the brakes. I turned it off and back on and it stopped until I used the cruise again. Then it'd lunge again when I'd slow down or attempt to stop. I called my friend and he said to stop using the cruise. The problem has not continued, but I also haven't used the cruise since 2013. My car doesn't even have 100k miles and I bought it new. I've maintained it and it still had other issues. The keyless entry, bose 6 disc, alternator and thermostat have all malfunctioned! the lights on the radio display don't light properly and the headliner falls down despite my best efforts to fix it.
Shortly after I purchased my vehicle (used) I noticed that my headlight on the passengers side was dimmer than the the other and while is was driving, the light would go on and off, I figured it just needed to be replaced, but if you bumped the light it would come back on and work for a few days and again would go through the same thing over again, this became to be a safety issue to me because I work at night and with this issue happening intermittently I figure id change the bulb and hope for the best. Buib changed same issue continued, I researched this on numerous sights to see that other Mazda owners where going thru the same problem, edmonds had people on their sight with the same issue, headlights are on the top for safety if you cant see or be seen the worst can happen. Help us Mazda6 owners.
The contact owns 2006 Mazda, Mazda6. The contact stated that both plastic headlight lenses became oxidized. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the headlight assembly would not to be replaced or they would have to resurface the headlight lenses to correct the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The entire passenger side dashboard is gooey, sticky black. If you touch it it gets all over your hands, and everything will stick to it. It appears to be melting away. This started a few years ago. Recently I noticed the rear headlights look as if they are warped from the inside, as if it was a melted candle.
The low beam headlights continue to go out. I have replaced them number of times. This is not just a problem with my car numerous Mazda3 owners and Mazda6 owners are having this same problem. This is especially dangerous when the lights go out at night.
Both headlights at different times have gone out, been replaced and go out again within a few weeks of replacing the bulb. If you bang on or hit the headlight it may come back on. Have replaced the drivers side 4 times in one year. Hitting bumps in the road may bring the bulb on or off also.
Low beam headlights went out at 40,000 miles and have been replaced 2more times. Yesterday, no low beam headlights again so I googled problem. Over 170 reports on one site of same problem for various Mazda models and years. Interestingly, the video on the site says if you rap the outer headlight casing the light comes on but may not stay on once car is shut off. This worked for virtually everyone on the site and myself. Mazda must be aware of this problem but is doing nothing for consumers. Also their engineering design makes replacing bulbs a $150 adventure as the average person can't do it themself.
Headlights go out on both passenger and driver side far too often. Sometimes a thump to the light cover or body by the headlight assembly will turn the light back on. The lights will eventually burn out far too often as well. I have replaced about 7 headlights since buying new. It is dangerous as both lights have gone off at night while driving. Light will go off while driving and sometimes not turn on when started. There are even you tube videos with people having the same issues. This has been going on from about a year after new purchase.
The contact owns a 2012 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated the low beam headlights do not give sufficient light; therefore, the high beam lights had to be used in order to see the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the low beam bulb could be replaced with a better bulb. The headlight bulb was not replaced. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 1500.
New hid headlamps have very little light to see above a certain height depending on road terrain. As example when going downhill you cannot see the lanes in upcoming uphill grades. The lack of elimination in the area above the horizontal projection, prevents seeing road signs, lane changes, and pedestrians if you are traveling at a downhill angle on your approach. My car, 2009 Mazda 6, has adjustment to raise projection depending on weight of passengers in back seat, but these new lights in my opinion are still unsafe when driving at night. I spoke to service department at dealer to inquire about possibly changing out these lights for some other type, but he said he had same problem when driving his vehicle at night. This headlight design is being added to more vehicle makes and is making night driving a safety issue that needs to be addressed for all new cars using this design. These new headlamps are worthless on hilly terrain. Since the service department person agreed and there is no apparent fix, I believe this will result in more night accidents.
There seems to be an issue with the low beam headlight assemblies in the 2009 Mazda6 vehicles. I have had both low beam headlights go out on me on two occasions while driving down the road. Once both lamps needed to be replaced, the second time banging on the light cover got them to work again. I was told by the service manager at Mazda to just bang on the light cover with my hand and it should come back on. The driver side headlight goes out often and to get it to come back on I have to bang on the light cover. I've put about 12 bulbs in the car. You find similar incidents on the web in Mazda forums. .
