2009 Mazda 6. Consumer writes in regards to various safety recalls issued for this vehicle. The consumer stated after the air bag sensor was replaced, but the airbag light remained illuminated. It was reprogrammed , but the failure recurred. The doors and windows would lock, leaving occupants trapped in the vehicle nor would the vehicle start. The horn would malfunction. The horn relay was taken out due to the horn unexpectedly sounding off. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures, but did not offer any assistance. The VIN number was invalid. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 11v134000 (fuel system), 13v425000 (latches/locks/linkages), 16v356000 (air bags), and 16v594000 (air bags). The parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified. 2009 Mazda6. Consumer writes in regards to automatic unlock button malfunction. The consumer stated within the last year, the automatic unlock button inside the vehicle, suddenly stopped working, and in fact did the opposite of what it was supposed to do. When the unlock button was pressed, the entire vehicle automatically locked, and at times, would not release the lock, even manually. It would take many attempts at perfect timing to select the unlock button while opening the door in order to be able to get out of the vehicle. The automatic lock button functioned as it should, locking all doors. In other words, both the automatic lock and unlock buttons only locked the doors. The consumer stated she was locked inside the vehicle on several occasions, until she was able to get the door to release. The dealer identified the problem as the body control module for the locks. However, they could not offer a guarantee that the new body control module would not have the same problem, as Mazda acknowledged a problem with the part.

The contact entered the vehicle from the front passenger side door and noticed the front driver side door also would not open from the inside. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 113,000.

The driver's door on my 2004 Mazda 6 will not open. This car has electric locks. All doors open except the driver's door. The dealership told me the latch was bad and it will cost $400 to repair. This creates a safety hazard. If I am in a wreck, I can't open the door to get out. There should be a way to manually disengage the locking mechanism in case of emergency. This is a manufacturing defect and engineering defect. This is a big safety issue with this car.

The contact owns a 2003 Mazda 6. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle vibrated and hesitated without warning. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The technician stated that the failure was related to the engine, which was replaced. In addition, the vehicle would shift roughly from first to second gear. He experienced failure with the exterior lights and the window operating mechanisms. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. The technician stated that the aftermarket electronic components were possibly the causes of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the following components: alternator, battery, exterior lights, and four window operating mechanisms. Also, the computer module, transmission, and air conditioner modules were replaced. The failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 94,000.
