Cruise Control problems of the 1999 Mazda Miata

Three problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1999 Mazda Miata. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2008

Cruise control when set, rapidly accelerates and when switched to "coast" continues to accelerate. Only being able to cancel by braking or completed switching off. Sometimes it seems to set at first and then continues to accelerate. Started intermittently, developing into a constant issue.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2003

Cruise control unit does not hold set speed. Set speed rises 5-7mph without any intervention by driver.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2001

I took the car in for service on 12/17/01, (macs103648, 12/17/01) my warning light was on (3rd or 4th time in past 2-3 months). When the car first starts up I have to keep my foot on the gas, to keep it from stalling. This has been a problem since I first bought it, (macs60450, 5/18/99) but they told me it was just the idle mechanism and they couldnt do anything about it. Since it went away, in seconds of warming up, I didnt mention it again. It went in for service this time because it seemed to be getting worse. Now, with the car off warranty, the charge is $748. 62 to replace the valve idle ai and the thermo gasket. They kept my car for two days to figure this out.
