Tl the contact owns a 2002 Mazda Miata. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off and could not be immediately restarted. This car has a safety immobilizer that prevents car from running if the correct transponder key is not used. This car has only 28,000 miles, of which I have driven the last 10,000 miles. This week the immobilizer control electronics failed, rendering the car to stop running and will not restart. Researching on the web it appears this was a problem with many 2001 and some 2002 models. Firstly this failure is a safety issue. Secondly the repair requires replacing this immobilizer module as well as the main ecu and getting new transponder keys, which is very costly.

My car was parked at work. It was raining. When I got into the vehicle, it was flooded on the inside up to 6 inches. The gas pedal was slippery. It smelled musty, like mildew and mold. I contacted the dealer but got no return phone calls. I wrote them a letter and received a phone call then. They told me to trade the car in if I was having problems. I told them they sold me a flood car and wanted to return it. They refused. This was carmax in sanford, FL. Since that time, the car has flooded over 25 times. I am now living with roaches breeding in my car. It smells like mold. The windows are fogged from the inside daily. The seats have gotten stuck and then slide out of place while I'm driving. My insurance company, geico, refused to help me, stating that this damage probably occurred before I owned the car. I believe the dealer knew of these problems, the car was in the showroom and not out on the lot.

The contact owns a 2008 Mazda Miata. The contact stated that she accidentally placed the gear into reverse and exited the vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle rolled backwards and crashed into a traffic sign. Since the vehicle has a keyless remote entry, she was not warned that the vehicle was not in its proper parked position prior to exiting. She called the dealer and manufacturer, but was not provided with any assistance. The failure and current mileages were 1,300.
I have had the headlight combination switch, part number nc11-66-122 fail in this Mazda Miata 6 times. After the first replacement I noticed all the subsequent failures were due to a mechanical failure in the switch and not an electrical problem causing the failure. When the switch fails, I turn it to either parking lights or headlight position and the lights will not come on unless I physically continue turning the switch past it's "on" position. Soon as I release the switch and it falls back into the "on" position, the lights go off. The first 4 replacements were performed by Mazda dealers under warranty. Of course, they do not try to figure out the cause of the failure, they merely replace it. The fifth replacement I was able to keep the defective part and I disassemble it and found the contacts were not touching unless the switch was turned past the "on". I am now in the process of having the 6th combination switch replaced. On this present failure I can also physically push the switch inward and the lights momentarily come on then turn off when I release the inward pressure. My assessment of the problem is a poorly manufactured switch. It is definitely a safety hazard should the switch fail at night. Speedometer on 2002 Mazda Miata fails intermittently. Mazda refuses to replace even though under warranty.
1. Engine began to run poorly vehicle lost speed. 2. Had to exit freeway and use side streets to return home
3. Took car to dealer for diagnostics, service report indicated that the coil/igniter was defective which was the cause of the loss of power. Research indicates that the coil/igniter failure is a problem on the 1999, 2000 models.
