My van started jerking into 2nd gear and it had no pickup, I could feel it not catching gears so I took it to my mechanic and they say it needs a new transmission. It will cost between $2000 and $4000 to fix.

The transmission was shifting rough so we had the car in to the dealership. The dealership flushed the transmission fluid and reprogrammed it. After the service the transmission started flaring and less than 100 miles later wouldn't shift to overdrive. I was on the freeway, so exited and at the second stop-light the car would not shift into gear at all. I had to push it off a 4-lane road and have it towed back to the dealership. The dealership reported the transmission had failed completely and required replacement.
While driving the car does not shift into gears well. It is an intermittent problem that Mazda claims they can't duplicate or fix. However, all the vans appear to have this problem. I owned mine since July 2003, and only took it in once, since they say they still can't fix it. Vehicle does this even at slow speeds . It feels as if I was hit from behind, and put people at risk of an accident when surging in stop and go traffic! please get this fixed, I"m not alone with this problem.
