Body Problems of Mazda MX5

My car has less than 65,000 and is just 10 years old but the transmission cross member is shot . I have had cars with nearly 300,000 and this never happened the part is on backorder.

There is a leak on the passenger side footwear which has caused rust on the from cross frame and the wires for the airbag to get wet and other wires.

The top windshield trim piece popped off while on the highway. The windshield has never been replaced and this trim piece has never been removed. All but one of the clips failed.

I was driving on the freeway and I heard a loud cracking noise. I stopped at a gas station to check and saw that the upper molding part of the car had broken off.

As I was exiting a bp gas station (62 griffin corporation dr, chelsea, al 35043) and making a right onto county road 11, the rear tires of the car started to spin (1/4 throttle). I noticed that abs or the stability control system did not activate. The rear tires continued spinning and I felt the car's back end fishtailing. At this point, I started to get on the brakes hard and try to do minor corrections, when I felt that the brake pedal was not pulsating, and the car was not slowing down at all. At this point, I was facing oncoming traffic and the railroad tracks that were about >500 ft in front of me. I look to my right and notice that I am about to slide into the railroad crossing sign. The impact was hard enough to where my right buttock ended up next to the handbrake of the car. My arm is slightly bruised from it being swung to the right and hitting the passenger window. The airbags were not deployed at all. However, the damage done to the car is, left lower control arm scratched/scuffed/damaged, the passenger side mirror broken off, the passenger door dented inwards, the side skirt (the part that runs across the bottom of the car) ripped off on the driver's side and bent upwards on the passenger side, and finally, the passenger side door sill dented/bent inwards. Started from creak noise as car start to move, accelerate or stop. Now it developed to some ticking noise every time car accelerate or decelerate. The car is only at about 9700 mi went to spreen Mazda loma linda CA to inspect the car. They said it is normal and come back when it gets worse.

When it rains water will pool in passenger side floor board. Mazda deals suggests adding drains and filters that are not part of original vehicle design. (this issue is due to a design flaw and no other reason), this happens regardless if car is moving or stationary. This has been an on-going issue since I purchased the vehicle in 11/2012. . Door seals and window seals are not damaged.

Owners manual (attached) does not mention the foam filters located beneath the plastic filters (photo attached). Complaint is that the foam filters do not dry, and become caked with black mold. In the attached photo, the foam filters have been soaked with bleach to kill the mold, and washed to clean out the mold "scale". In addition to the potential health hazard to occupants of the vehicle, clogged with mold filters can prevent proper operation of the drains, resulting in flooding of the car interior, and rust. Water exposure can be from car washing as well a rain, both being routine exposures.

The forward frame rails are severely rusted, compromising the function of the bumpers greatly increasing the likelihood of injury in the event of a front collision. Corrosion is not readily apparent, suggesting that most people are unaware that their vehicle's safety has been compromised.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The accident occurred when a pedestrian darted out into a crosswalk. The first car slammed on the breaks. The car behind it slammed on their breaks, and I was the car behind the second car. I tried to avoid the car in front of me, but my car did not stop in time. I was traveling at approximately 30 mph on a side street. I had my seatbelt fastened. My nose hit the steering wheel and started to bleed profusely. I went to emergency, and they advised me to see my doctor for a checkup. The doctor ordered an x-ray of my nose. I have a tiny fracture and contusion, which led to two very black eyes and swelling. I have photos of the damage to the vehicle and to my face. The airbag did not inflate.

The mx-5 has a design flaw in the roof drains on the canvas convertible top. It floods constantly. I am really growing tired of vacuuming up water in this car. It even floods the trunk. Wet feet in standing water makes for a safety issue driving the car until you can get to a wet vac to evacuate standing water.

Excessive flooding in cabin on drivers and passenger side as well as trunk. Mazda has since modified their roof drain system as this is a known defect. Once the model is out of factory warranty, they refuse to replace parts with updated parts to fix the problem. The convertible roof itself does not leak. It is the design of the roof drainage system. Mazda needs to be held accountable for fixing all of these cars. The new parts include debris filters and ribbed valves which reduce baffles getting stuck shut in the drain lines.
