2 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 10/09/2025

I was driving on interstate 30 with the cruise control on and I needed to slow down as there was roadwork so I pressed down the brakes to disengage the cruiser control and slow the vehicle down, the vehicle not only not slow down but lunged forward. The brake pedal did not disengage the cruise control after pumping the brake pedal several times and tried to bring the vehicle back to the set speed. I avoided major collision and possible saved my wife's life and mine by going into the grassy center median at 70mph. I had to pull the emergency brake handle to slow the vehicle down enough to stall the engine to come to a complete stop.

3 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 09/11/2025

My current vehicle has a headlight malfunction issue that has plagued the car since 2k. Under turning the swivel in the headlight will break or become off track. The headlight if it becomes off track the adaptive headlight will stick in place causing a lost of field of view at night. Mazda has warranty the drive side headlight due this issue. Their new headlight house was redesigned for 2024 year. It continues to be an issue. When getting the vehicle inspected they say it because of spirited drive and yet to fix the issue with programming or other means. This is common issue with refresh miatas. In the forums many owners of the refresh are complaining about it. Mazda is aware of the issue but has not come out with a solution and dealer support not really there.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 12/13/2023

On the dash the amber abs light came on as well as the red brake light and they stayed on for a couples and I took it to the shop and they said it was the "steering angle sensor" and they changed it and the lights came back on a day later and they took another look from head to toe and they couldn't find a reason why the abs and brake lights were staying on and now its only intermit after four weeks, it cost me about $644. 00 dollars for the sas plus $130. 00 for diagnostic plus renter car and the lights still come on (meineke auto shop. ) on the screen of the car it states something wrong with the electrical vacuum pump but they checked and the scanner is not pulling nothing up and the shop end up stating, it was probably an "electrical issue. " I believe with the miles the car has, it shouldnt had needed any new sensor and there is a possible electrical defect or bad wiring. Car has no accidents and drives fine and straight but the lights come on a few times a week but never when im driving only when its first turned on.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 12/09/2021

Since 2019 there have been several instances with my vehicle where someone has been able to knock the power offline thereby disabling it. It happened in five locations - a storage location in olive branchn ms, a former address in memphis, TN (4330 angarath dr), a restaurant (sonic) in greenville, ms and twice in greenville, ms both at a local park (hardee park). I never received any recall notices during this time regarding my vehicle ref a problem with the internal lighting for the odometer / gas meter, for the alarm system, for the battery, chasis - the frame shakes - I even reported feeling something when I first bought it back in Nov of 2015, and the door locks on the driver side stated losing the notification of being locked so I have to walk back to check and have found out that some additional delay is happening causing it not to lock properly so I open and close it to get it to lock. I have received any notifications for issues with locks, power, or the suspension (chasis). My car has been stole from the dealership in memphis near the germantown TN area, from storage and then from the parking lot of my current address in greenville ms. I reported all of this to local management and I told the prior people that had the dealership that something had happened to my car and they joked around trying to make a joke out of it. I called the prior service manager and a Mazda dealer in atlanta when it was knocked offline in 2019 and was told it was an issue they could not resolve over the phone but told me to try a couple of things to see it would start. I finally heard back from the one in memphis who agreed and I got it to start after sitting in that park almost stranded. They did it again yesterday but it would not start even after I know I spent almost $200 on a new battery after it shutdown at a local restaurant and it would not start after an electrical spark hut the car and shocked my leg. The car is only 5 years old; it shouldn't have these problems.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

As I was exiting a bp gas station (62 griffin corporation dr, chelsea, al 35043) and making a right onto county road 11, the rear tires of the car started to spin (1/4 throttle). I noticed that abs or the stability control system did not activate. The rear tires continued spinning and I felt the car's back end fishtailing. At this point, I started to get on the brakes hard and try to do minor corrections, when I felt that the brake pedal was not pulsating, and the car was not slowing down at all. At this point, I was facing oncoming traffic and the railroad tracks that were about >500 ft in front of me. I look to my right and notice that I am about to slide into the railroad crossing sign. The impact was hard enough to where my right buttock ended up next to the handbrake of the car. My arm is slightly bruised from it being swung to the right and hitting the passenger window. The airbags were not deployed at all. However, the damage done to the car is, left lower control arm scratched/scuffed/damaged, the passenger side mirror broken off, the passenger door dented inwards, the side skirt (the part that runs across the bottom of the car) ripped off on the driver's side and bent upwards on the passenger side, and finally, the passenger side door sill dented/bent inwards. The pictures attached are the photos of my bruise and and the incident.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Spider cracking on center display Mazda service bulletin r018/18. Since vehicle is out of warranty will not repair even though it was a noted mfg defect. Should be a safety issue as screen will become on readable and safety is a 5 yr warranty adv no. Mazda should of notified owners of this issue did not.

11 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

When driving, most of the time the blind spot sensor does not turn on (sound and light). It can go days without turning on at all then all of a sudden it works 1 or 2 times.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Car was in motion, while driving the car the red key light on the engine start button started flashing. When we got home the car would not turn off. Also couldn't shift the car. Finally got the car to turn off and when we started the car again the check engine light came on. Car dealership found several codes stored, but could not find the problem. Believe this is a serious safety issue with red warning lights start flashing when driving, car would not turn off and we could not shift the car.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

The airbag warning light came on. I took the car to the dealer, dyer Mazda in vero beach, FL. The dealer told me the airbag may or may not deploy in the event of a crash. They said I needed a passenger weight sensor, a passenger seat track adjuster, and an sas unit. Approximately $2,000 just for the parts. I called the manufacturer, Mazda, and after review, the manufacturer concurred that the airbag may or may not deploy unless these 3 parts were replaced. Mazda agreed to pay for the labor only, $650, but I would be responsible for the $2,000 in parts. My car is in excellent condition, only 11,752 miles on it. There was never any damage to the parts - impact, water or otherwise. Since all 3 parts are required for the airbag to work properly, I feel Mazda should cover the cost of the parts - not just the labor. This is a huge safety issue. Mazda oem parts are only warranted for 12 months or 12000 miles. Since these parts are directly related to the safety of the car, I feel these parts should have a much longer warranty - such as 100,000 miles - like a powertrain warranty. I have researched this issue extensively on the internet - specifically in Mazda owner forums. This is not a new issue for Mazda. They have known about it for years. Since the failure of this part can be responsible for driver death or serious injury, I believe Mazda should be held responsible for their product working properly for more than 12 months or 12,000 miles. Another concern I have is that if the passenger side sensor airbag system can fail, then the driver side system can also fail. If both systems fail, the owner is responsible for over $5,000 in repairs. I would appreciate anything you can do to assist me to encourage Mazda to stand by their safety products and replace them if they fail. Thank you.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mazda MX5

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda mx-5. The contact stated that while parked, the doors locked and unlocked independently. The failure was recurring. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. 15 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mazda MX5

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

The “passenger airbag disabled” dash light remains on when the passenger seat is pushed to the rear with no one in the seat. The passenger seat belt unbuckled warning light is also lit even though no one is in the seat. Both lights turn off when the empty seat is moved forward. I am unsure if the air bag will deploy if needed. A Mazda dealer told me they had seen the problem before in other vehicles and there are discussions on the internet about the problem in other cars. The dealer diagnosed my car and told me it could be one of two parts but they could not be sure which part caused the problems. All they could suggest was replacing one part and then the other part if the problem persisted. The parts are the seat weight sensor ($1281. 03) and the seat weight control ($523). The car has never been wrecked and nothing has been modified or altered on the airbag or seat belt system. The problems began several months ago and the lights will not go off now when there is no passenger unless the seat is moved forward. I am concerned that the airbag system is compromised and Mazda offers no help other than to gamble on replacing two very expensive parts which should not cause problems during normal use of the vehicle. I have contacted Mazda by email but they have not responded to my inquiries. The company did not offer to help the dealer resolve the problem other than to suggest that I pay for the two expensive parts that were suspected of being the problem.
