Two problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 1996 Mazda Protege. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Front bucket seat back rests failed during vehicle collision.
When vehicle was traveling at 55 mph on interstate a van crashed into the rear of the vehicle. Both front seatbacks collapsed. The vehicle was totalled.
