One problem related to engine belts and pulleys has been reported for the 1998 Mazda Protege. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While pulling into parking space with foot on brakes vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle jumped the parking bump & hit a brick wall. No physical injuries. Prior to acceleration, had venicle at dealer & the timing belt was adjusted.
