Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly Problems of Mazda Protege

The contact owns a 2003 Mazda Protege. The contact stated that the driver side seat belt would not latch and the seat belt warning indicator light illuminated. The dealer advised the contact not to worry about the light as long as the belt would latch. However, the belt no longer latches. The dealer stated that the latch needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 93,000.

The driver's side seat belt buckle suddenly stopped latching. There was no way to secure the seat belt and safely operate the vehicle.

: the contact stated the driver seat belt would not buckle at all. There was no click when the seat belt was inserted in the buckle, and the belt did not lock into the buckle. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem. A new part was ordered. The manufacturer was also notified.

I was unable to release the driver's side seat belt. I crawled out under it and eventually got it to release. It seems to work ok now but I'm now leery of it.

Seat belt latch on the retractor will not stay in place. Vehicle had been taken to dealer for repairs, but problem comes back and forth.

Consumer was locked in driver seat because seat belt would not unlatch. Consumer had to cut herself out. Notified dealer, repairs were covered under extended warranty.

Sealt belt broke on passenger seat, belt latch was latched into the case and release button broke immediatly, while trying to disengage the belt (by pushing on the button) the case broke inhalf, but remained engaged until completely disassembled.

In a panic stop, rear restraint unlatched , tossing the child in a css forward, resulting in minor injuries. Manufacturer has been notified.

Driver's seat belt buckle failed to unlatch. Driver had to crawl out of belt to get free. Dealer notified and replaced belt.
