Four problems related to engine oil leaking have been reported for the 2004 Mazda RX8. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Noticeable oil leak, scattered all over where the vehicle is normally parked as well as all over the driver's side underbody. Oil level drops approximately 1 us quart per 2-3 days, driven only lightly to and from place of employment. 10 miles a day tops. Diagnosed by independent ase certified mechanic as substantial leak from the oil cooler lines, due to rust and extreme corrosion. The car is not driven in a harsh climate, and generally not in snow or ice. I see a recall for this in some countries, but not the united states, despite being subjected to the same road conditions. This car is unsafe to drive.
The engine oil cooler hoses developed an oil leak which was caused by corrosion to the metallic parts of the assembly.
The contact owns a 2004 Mazda Rx8. The contact stated that the engine was leaking oil which caused the vehicle to not start. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the engine burned due to neglect and needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 94,000. Updated 03/31/lj.
I noticed massive amounts of oil leaking from under my 2004 Mazda Rx8 onto the driveway of a friend's landlord's driveway. I drove it into the dealership and was told that the oil cooler lines had corroded and needed to be replaced for $1200. Mazda does not cover this under warranty but has issued a recall in canada for this very issue but does not recognize it in the u. S. A. Leaks can be fairly slow and unnoticeable for quite a while and coat the wheels and brakes with oil, causing loss of handling and trouble braking.
