Five problems related to accelerator pedal have been reported for the 2001 Mazda Tribute.
Accelerator Pedal problem
1 Occassionally, while my car is idle both parked but running or while I'm in traffic, the engine accelerates and the rpm gauge races. The engine will not stop racing unless I turn the car off. Also, driver car door does not open from the inside, service dealer says I need to replace entire lock including components not covered under map.

2 Vehicle stalled, and after pressing the accelerator it stopped. Dealer repaired the vehicle at consumer's expense. Manufacturer stated that the continued cost was consumer's responsibility.
Accelerator Pedal problem
3 When slowing down to enter highway, and then pressing accelerater and vehicle slows down, instead of speeding up. It is like your putting on the brakes. Driver feels this can cause an accident. Please provide any further information.

4 Vehicle was going 10-15mph and stepped on gas to go 20-25mph. And rpms were sticking,and braking made it 80-85% less effective. Dealer is convinced the problem is the floor mats.

5 While driving about 50 mph and when stepping on accelerator pedal, vehicle will not accelerate. Also, transmission only will work in reverse. The transmission failure was the cause for no forward movement of the vehicle and was replaced.
