Body Problems of Mercedes Benz C230

We received a recall notice on our mercedes stating that over time the bonding in the glass panel and sunroof frame might deteriorate over time and cause the glass to separate from the vehicle. On 02/06/25, my son brought his car into the mercedes dealership in lafayette, indiana to take care of the recall. The service tech signed off on the recall and told him everything was ok. On 02/21/25, he was driving down the highway and the entire glass part of the sunroof flew off behind him! luckily there wasn’t a driver behind him. He was very startled and could’ve swerved off the road causing injury to himself or others. If someone was behind him they could’ve been injured or even killed. We called the dealership immediately. The service manager told my husband that they checked the glass on the roof and our car was not part of the recall and there was nothing they could do! since that day, (one month) we have been trying to get someone to help us. We have contacted the gm at the dealership, talked to 3 people at mercedes corporate only to be hung up on once and put on hold for 45 minutes the other time. To this day we are unable to get anyone to address the issue. The NHTSA clearly stated our vehicle is part of this recall yet the dealership is stating the glass number wasn’t listed. Obviously our vehicle is part of the recall considering what happened!.

Recall 24v874 on sliding roof bonding was issued. Mercedes-benz of nashville was not able to open the roof and asked for $219. 88 to determine cause of sunroof being inoperative. Recall letter stated that: "vehicle repair will be provided at no cost to you" "if dealer for any reason is unable to remedy the situation without charge. . You may submit a complaint to the NHTSA. . " hence I am submitting this complaint that my sliding roof was not checked nor repaired.

The bonding agent on my roof ( between the glass panel and frame of car) is breaking down- the other week, when I had the sun roof open in direct sun ( my car is usually parked in covered parking) the bonding was sticky to the touch, and got all over my hand when I inspected the rail. I took it to mercedes, because I thought that it was under recall # 202004011 for this very issue, but they said it was not a covered model. They wanted to charge $300 for an inspection and diagnosis. Mbusa customer service also not interested in investigating whether this issue is affecting my model car. In the recalled models, there is a danger of the glass roof separating from the vehicle.

During a normal morning drive on a side street (non residental) I had slowed the car with my two passenger tires in the dirt and driver tires on the road to about 5 to 10 mph before pulling back on to the road and accelerated back up to 45 mph as posted. While doing so my esp shut off so how and I ended up fish tailing over a curb through a fence and on to a golf course in which there was external damage to my steering body side panels exterior lighting side mirror tires and lower control arms. Resulting in over 8k in repairs.

Takata recall I was involved in an accident on Jan 3, 2015 in my 05 mer benz C230 the airbag exploded causing smoke and dust like particals I immedietly got off the car from that point on the car has been sitting tottalled I recently recieved a recall notification on 2/11/2016 I find it hard to believe this is the date this was figured out due to my settlement back in Feb 2015 the insurance company submitted a market value report on my vehicle deducting 2 recalls from my car one being the airbag and this was a year before mercedes even notified there customers. I have severe asthma and could not believe an airbag would contain the trash it didl. Its going on 2 years and my car is still sitting on lot unreparied with airbag inflated this is unbelievable I have documents showing I was complaining about the airbag before takata even thought of mentioning there defect shame on you.

Numerous things have happened. The car has 124,000 right now. This is the biggest lemon ever!! -car caught fire at mercedes - a/c blower shorted out, causing fuse box to catch fire and burnt underneath dash. They informed me the technician received minor burns when trying to put out the fire. -new alarm siren (it would go off randomly) -2 alternators (voltage regulator goes bad) -new door lock on driver and passenger side doors -new rf sensor on driver door for the key-less remote -2 new thermostats -1 driver side door handle -2 passenger side door handles and now broke for 3rd time -rear glass was replaced because when rear defroster was turned on it would make fm radio static. It does it again now. -front fog light glass cracked in half - bought new one and did it again -check engine light on now and O2 sensor bad. -rear screen shade it stuck up. Wont go down. -key-less remote antenna is broke -3 brake systems in front -1 brake in rear -sunroof works but the arm that pops up broke -middle console buttons get stuck sometimes. Mb has to pop them back out. -strut stabilizer bar broke -transmission mount and front arm bushings were all replaced. -lcd on dash has a blur line going through it. -bose speakers were replaced and now all busted again. Exterior - very sexy car and that's all it has.

Right and left spring perches are rusting out and coming apart on a 1998 230 c mercedes. Perches have to be rewelded so front wheels don't come off the car.

The driver's side upper coil-spring mount tore away from the body structure, ejecting the coil spring and bushing, collapsing the front suspension and rendering the car immobile. The car was parked at the time so no collision. If the car was moving at the time of the failure there would be no way to steer it. Due to estimated repair cost of $1500-2000 versus resale value, the car was sold as-is and towed away.

I was involved in a accident at a stoplight. While waiting for the light to turn green, my car accelerated and I ran into the back of a pickup truck. The truck did not have a scratch on it. I had $over $8,000 damage. The whole front of my car was damaged (smashed up into the windshield). The car was taken to a body shop and repaired. I now find out 3/15/2014 the car has a bent k-frame not to mention the work was shoddy on the body work. I have not had any more accidents. I had just purchased the car the month before as a used vehicle. I want to know why the insurance adjuster did not notice the bent k frame. I now have to pay out of pocket to find a used k frame and pay for the labor. I have driven this car continuously since having it repaired. I moved from new jersey to south carolina driving this car. Something could have happened. Fortunately I've been lucky but what happens now, my new tires in the rear (which I think may have been like this when I bought the car) wear out within 6 months and I often wondered why. The car shakes (the k frame) and the steering wheel has a lot of play in it which I was told will always be like that unless I get it repaired. I have put an insurmountable of money into this car and I'm very disappointed. If it wasn't for the auto shop who put my new tires on last week, I would not have known about this problem. I feel I've been cheated and this car should have been totaled and I given another car! now I cannot afford to get another car right now and I'm scared to drive it.
