1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

I purchased a 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 sport from a private seller. I soon learned that the vehicle was in limp mode. The dealer said it was the transmission conductor plate. After hours of research, I discovered several owners of a mercedes with the 772. 9 transmission have been experiencing the same issue. I ended up paying $2500 for a new tcu from Mercedes Benz.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 02/20/2017

While driving on a city street in stop and go traffic, I noticed that the car was not shifting gears. The tachometer would rev high but the vehicle would not accelerate in accordance with the revolutions. Once traffic freed up from a stop and go 20 mile/hr the car would not shift gears and remained in limp mode. I brought the car to my mechanic who confirmed it was a transmission problem. The current quote to replace the 7 speed 722. 9 transmission is $2800 parts and labor.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 03/10/2016

The car stays in first gear and I have to stop and pull over. Put it in park and it jerks very badly going it to park. Then I turn it off, and back on. Then everything goes back to normal, until it happens again. So many people have this issue and there is no recall. What are they waiting for. There is 113 complaints on this car and almost none are from the only recall they have actually issued. This happens on a red light. It happens on the high way. In reverse. I wish I never bought this car. Some people paid 1500 dollars to fix it. I thought mercedes meant high quality. At least they can admit their mistake and fix it for the people suffering before someone dies. The car has 94000 miles. My Honda went to 200,000 with out issues.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Vehicle lost speed on highway. Engine racing but no speed. Pulled over to call for help. No reverse. Had car towed to dealership. Required replacement of transmission electronic control unit. Cost was $1,352. 83. Dealer told me it is a common problem. This sounds like a systemic problem with this part and can cause injury or death in certain driving conditions.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

Unintended surge in accelerator. I was reversing into a parking stall in the garage of a condo complex. This is a compact stall with only about eight inches of space from the tire to the dividing line, so I need to park very carefully and slowly. Once the vehicle was in motion and I was partially into the parking stall, I released my foot from the accelerator, preparing to work my way into the stall. Instead of slowing down, the car surged backwards at a much higher speed. The vehicle rammed and bounced off a concrete wall with great force. The tires had squealed before the impact. The vehicle ended up in about the same position that it was in before the accelerator surge.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 06/08/2014

While driving my car on Sunday (8 June 2014), my 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 lost acceleration and the car wouldn't get out of first gear and the rpm's were running high. I had to pull over and turn the care off hoping to reset the car to that I could get back home. Once I turned off the car and set for a few minutes it then worked with no problem. This isn't the first time thig has happen to the car.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

Ever since I have purchased my Mercedes Benz C230- 2007 model, I have been regularly maintaining it as per mercedes recommended maintenance instructions. Recently I experienced an unexpected transmission issue in my car. The car lost acceleration on a major highway while driving at a speed of 65 mph. I had to pull over to the shoulder and shut off the engine for a few minutes. Only after restarting the engine, the acceleration improved. I have experienced this issue three times now and am concerned about me and my family's safety. I have researched online on NHTSA. Dot. Gov, benzworld. Org and a few other blog sites where numerous mercedes C230 owners have experienced exactly the same issue. My question is that if this is a known safety related issue and has been reported to Mercedes Benz USA, llc. Several times, why has Mercedes Benz not initiated a recall. I hope the company is not waiting for a disaster to happen. I would appreciate if NHTSA could please investigate the issue.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

I was driving to work on 75 north where speed is 65mph at lunch hour and all of the sudden the car started to decelerate from 65 miles an hour to zero in seconds the car stopped, I saw my life before my eyes in my rearview mira as cars and semi trucks were swerving from plowing into me at 65 mph to 75 mph. . . I only had seconds to remove myself from the vehicle to safety where I saw a Jeep grand cherokee plow into my car at high speed I only had seconds to remove myself from my car and escape to safety and run to the side of the road yeah guard rail as I watched in horror my car being plowed into like an accordion and cut in half. I have had this same incident happened to me while my car was being serviced at the mercedes dealership and they gave me a loaner car 2013 to drive and the same thing happened to me while I was driving the new loaner car from the mercedes dealership, I was lucky as I was driving a loaner when it stopped accelerating it just started decelerating as I was near an intersection to coast to safety I believe this is an occurrence and can happen to others that are driving these cars.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

Moments after exiting the freeway and reducing speed at around 35 mph my car did not accelerate and continue as it would in neutral. Family in the car panic and for my fortune light traffic on an usual busy street. The check engine light did not turn on at the moment of days after the incident. A week later without a warning the vehicle engine light turn on and lost speed in the freeway. This incident could easy cause my family and other drivers a fatal accident and preventable injuries. I have found many similar incidents describing what happen to me and its awful that nothing is being done to fix it. I will contact my local representative and senator to demand action and a formal investigation about this issue.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

On Nov 27, 2013, I was in the los angeles area on highway 14 traveling around 70 mph on the highway w/ many cars and my speed dropped to around 50 mph in spite of my foot downing the accelerator to the floor. I had to turn on my emergency lights and move over to the slow lane for safety. Returning home that same day on the same freeway, the car would not accelerate or transmission would not downshift to compensate for the uphill on the freeway in spite of stepping down on the accelerator- again I had to flash my emergency lights on and move to the slow lane. There is no sensor light on the dashboard for both incidents. My mechanic reported it will be hard to diagnose the transmission problem since there is no sensor light on. On Nov 29, 2013, I traveled to las vegas and the transmission repeated the decelerating incident and failure of the accelerator to increase engine or transmission speed. This is dangerous.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

I was driving my car around 30mph coming to a slow down to make a right hand turn. Made turn and proceeded up a steep hill and my car simply stop pulling/accelerating. This has happened several times. I went out of town to TX for christmas and had the same thing happen. I can't understand why so many complaints and no one has yet to even investigate the problem. The maintenance on these vehicles is expensive. On top of the mb is familiar with this issue and should not be putting this expense off on the owners due to faulty default product that can not even be rebuilt but requires replacing the faulty part with another faulty part. Something needs to be done about this.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

I was driving about 60 mph suddenly my car was jerking and shaking the speed started to decrease and the car suddenly turned off I was able to pull over to the side of the road and I had to turn the key to start it the engine light turned on and I was able to drive off like regular. The next day I was on the freeway exiting I was going like 40 mph when I decreased my speed to stop and make a turn my rpm was at high 4-5 and my speed was 20mph I had to step on the pedal all the way just to get to 20 mph.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Suddenly during normal driving conditions, when trying to accelerate the car is very sluggish and the rpm are very high. This happens without warning increasing the potential for a crash. The problem is normally rectified temporarily by restarting the vehicle.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

I purchased my car brand new, it was never previously owned and directly from a Mercedes Benz dealer. I started having problems with speed and gear shifting back in may 2012. When driving on the freeway normal speed (55mph) the car would begin to slow down no matter how much I pressed the accelerator the car would slow to a complete stop. I would have to attempt to pull over off the freeway, turn the car completely off, let it sit and then start it again and the car would run normal. When I get off the freeway or now even when I am driving on a back road going 35 mph the car would shake as I came to a stop sign or traffic light (as if I was driving a stick shift and didn't put the car in neutral or press the clutch) and then it would shut down completely. Now I am having a third issue in addition to these issues where the car will shift gears on it's own and I'm driving in automatic mode not as a 5 speed. This is completely ridiculous for me to have transmission issue on a Mercedes Benz that I purchased new. I took it to a dealer who claims that I have to replace the entire transmission due to one small piece within the transmission system. I have checked online and have seen that hundreds of other benz owners are having the same problems with no resolution from the manufacturer. I am requesting an investigation and a recall. This is an extreme safety hazard that a car will completely shut down while on a freeway and there have been times when I have almost collided with other cars due to the immediate decline in speed. I have to always find a way to pull over to shut off the car. I purchased this car because of the quality that it should provide. Please follow up with me regarding this issue I am extremely concerned that requests are being ignored by the manufacturer and no one is looking into this matter.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 09/16/2011

I was on the highway and the car suddenly stopped accelerating and the rpm's ran way up and the car would not accelerate. I tried putting it in neutral then drive and nothing. I pulled over turned the car off for a few min. Then back on. The car operated normally. The check engine light also came on and I had all the necessary service done on the car at that time. The car has done this increasingly for the last year and it is now becoming a hazard. The car has started jumping when put in drive and it is alarming. I cannot afford to replace the transmission and I feel mercedes should take responsibility for a defect in this model. I have children and this is my only car. I don't feel safe in it anymore and my children don't either.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

I was driving my vehichle on the highway during morning rush hour when I noticed that the car would not accelerate over 35 mph. I moved the car off the highway and stopped at a red light. Once I stopped the car it would not accelerate at all when I stepped on the gas. I had to put the car in park and then move it back to drive to get the car to move. The car would jump and luch forward when I shifted gears. I drove the car dircetly to the dealer. The mercedes dealer told me that there was a problem with the software and that the software would need to be updated. I went to pick up my car after the "software " was updated ($1,700 cost) and drove the car about 10 miles when I noticed that the check engine light had come on. I took the car back to the mercedes dealer to let them know the check engine light was now on. The mercedes dealer told me I have a defective balance shaft that needs to be repaired. The mercedes dealer ask me if I had kept up the oil changes on the car. I told the them that I had. The mercedes dealer told me that I have to pay $2,500 just for them to take the engine apart and that the total repair will cost around $6,000. I just purchased the car in July 2010 ( 14 months ownership) with about 19,500 miles on it.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

I bought the car June 2011 and since then, I have periodically had this problem. From a stop, the car will not accelerate. It feels like it is stuck in a higher gear. Or, the opposite happens. I will accelerate, and the car will not change from second to third gear. I have to pull over and restart the engine, and then it works. I have seen numerous complaints online from other owners that they have the same problem.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I purchased my 2007 mercedes C230 in approximately February 2011 from carmax in roseville, CA. Within six weeks, I was driving on a local freeway when I experienced a loss of acceleration power yet the engine was running a over 4000 rpm. I returned to the carmax dealership to report the engine problem, but the dealership could not recreate the problem, which repeated itself intermittently in the following months. In December 2011, I took the car to a local mercedes specialist for a service b; upon examination, the specialist advised me that the car had not received a 60,000 mile service b, including a transmission service, and asked if the car had exhibited the power loss and high rpm. The specialist informed me that a mercedes service bulletin advised of an incompatibility between the metal material of the transmission and the original factory fluid, which causes a shearing problem and build up on the transmission shifting sensors. The specialist recommended and performed a service of flushing & replacement of the transmission fluid with a newly formulated, mercedes recommended fluid. Immediately following the service and fluid replacement, there were fewer incidents of power loss. In recent weeks, six months after the transmission service, the issue of power loss has re-occurred frequently, multiple times per week, multiple times per day, many times on the freeway at speeds of 55-65 mph, requiring me to pull to the shoulder of the freeway to turn off the car an allow to reset before re-entering the flow of traffic. This loss of power and transmission control while driving at freeway speed is a great safety concern to me.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz C230

Failure Date: 10/12/2005

I am the owner of a c-230 4 door sedan VIN# wdbrf40j93f386357. I have an issue that I was looking into addressing when another major issue just arrose that I need help from the manufacturer who I have contacted but not received a response. 1) last week I decided to quote insurance and make a change to allstate. Once they put in the VIN# major issues came. The price was way different then what I was paying with Mercury. To make this short, after talking to my broker at Mercury, it turns out my 4 door has the VIN# of a 2 door coupe. I called beverly hills ltd where I purchased the car new. They did nothing. I have the original temp registration from the day I purchased the car new, and the dealer typed coupe not four door and on the lease agreement. I did not notice this. Here are my issues. The coupe is more expensive on insurance - I have been overpaying since 2/2003. 2nd, am I paying a fair lease rate if the VIN# is for another body style. This car has been nothing but nightmare to deal with since the day I purchased it. It has been serviced 8 times, transmission work, 2 computers, camshaft, new radio, idle issues, brake system failed, and so on. It's a complete lemon. It is going in next week again. I have only 21,000 on the car, and drive my 2nd car more a 79 300sd mercedes as it is more reliable then this new car. I need somewhere, someone to go to, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, darren weingarten - phone or email.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1997 Mercedes Benz C230

The first time we noticed a problem was in mt. Pleasent, SC. We were dropping the children off to visit their dad. As soon as we returned to the car it would not start. We bought a new battery but that did not do it either. When we finally got the car to start it would take off as if it were driving itself. Several different things would happen. Either it would stall while idling or it would rev up the motor till you could hardly stop iyou would not even have to put your foot on the gas. Another time it did the same thing except it sounded like there was a jack hammer in the engine. They said it was a broken ac comoressor and adjusted the timing belt and replaced a air flow sensor. Another time it happened modern clasic motors (where I usually take it) said it was a defective airflow senser and replaced it with a new one. I also got a new aircompressor and fixed the ac. The next time was July 21, 2001. On my way home from columbia the car stalled in traffic a bystander and policeman pushed.
