Engine control unit failed during warranty after replacement by the Mercedes Benz dealership. The ecu causes stumbling and cutting out of engine in traffic while driving which can cause an accident putting my self, wife and others at risk. I took the car to the dealership and showed them the stored code of 1596 “the engine off time has an implausible value” (p1026) on the Mercedes Benz xentry das software. Yes: the dealer inspected the car and did a diagnostic. The code was cleared and the dealer claimed there was no code. A check engine light was present when the problem started approximately 23 months after the ecu was replaced be the dealer with a two year advertised and communicated warranty.

I purchased my car in 2018. The balance shaft gear has a recall and the manufacturer is not honoring the recall without an extension from the merecedes benz company. As well my moon roof need the bonding repair and it is showing a recall in the system.

I was pulling out of my driveway when all of a sudden, the car came to a screeching halt and would not move. I was stuck diagonally in the middle of the road. When I called aaa for a tow they said it looked like the passenger front ball joint failed. Upon inspection, it was found that the ball joint failed and the tie rod, lower control arm, and strut all broke as a result. The axel was also ripped out when the control arm failed. All of these things needed to be replaced. I can only image what would have happened if I had been traveling on a main road or highway at a higher rate of speed. But to have a catastrophic failure like this happen was completely unexpected, especially after having brand new tires and an alignment completed only one week earlier. Ultimately, I am unsure if this was due to an error on the tire shop's part with the alignment they did or a mercedes general quality issue. Either way, my vehicle is inoperable and I'm faced with a $1,700 bill for what should potentially be a recall. To know that another one could fail at any time at any speed with no warning is deeply unsettling and I will be getting rid of the car as soon as possible, likely never buying a mercedes again.
I have a 2006 mercedes C280 which I purchased almost a year ago with 57,000 miles. It currently has 73,000 miles and is having major mechanical problems which have been life threatening due to when and where they occur. 1. Loss of transmission upon acceleration. If I pull over, turn it off and restart, it will shift fine until it decides it wants to do it again and I either lose the ability to shift, or it goes into limp mode without a check engine light. This has happened on the freeway, heavy traffic, and have been several close calls. The shop said the codes were for transmission malfunction and valve body malfunction. Just out of nowhere. 2. Check engine light goes on and off repeatedly and the plastic intake manifold needs to be replaced because it is one of the defects mercedes was sued for on this particular year, model, and engine. All of the oxygen sensors are going out as well and that is just the start. The cost for the part alone is in the $1000 range. My mechanic said the best is yet to come and explained around my current mileage on up is when most of the damage takes place with the valves and whatever else happened with this engine. I'm not sure exactly what all the problems were but he said to take it to the junkyard and was very serious which infuriates me because it's a beautiful car and I couldn't in good conscience sell it to anyone. Mercedes is fully aware of this but not a lot of people benefited from the settlement. The same problems are known by all owners and german mechanics.
P0022 camshaft balancer defect, subject to prior class action, I am having this same problem! wish to become a part of that prior settled class action or pursue my own action for defective parts.
While trying to merge on the highway the car response slowly when trying to accelerate to highway speed the engine over rev's but no power the same happens when changing lanes. While reversing out of a driveway the car locked up both the engine and steering wheel would not I had to turn in on and off several times and the put it back in drive before I was able to finally reverse this incident placed my life in danger because when the car locked up half of it was on the driveway and the other half in the street impeding traffic. I am nervous about driving this car because it doesn't respond as quickly as it should which could cause an accident.
The car has a balance shaft issue like many w272 engines. . . We need to find a way to get mercedes into another class action lawsuit. . . This issue will cost me about 5000 dollars to fix. . . Otherwise.
While driving on the hwy at 75mph the car lost power and then came right back while this happened the transmission down shifted jerked very badly and car also slowed down rapidly. This is a known issue with 90's+ Mercedes Benz's why has nothing been done about this? multiple casualties on the hwy should not be a reason to inspect a very well known problem with millions of cars!! as long as these cars are still on the road safety should be at the top of the list! with the cost of repairs for a problem that the manufacturer has known about for many many years whats the deal? and becase of this wiring issue obdii diagnostics is defective and does not work! upon inspection of the wiring harnesses anyone can see crumbled cracked rotted away insulation leaving wires bare and able to touch causing fires costly engine repairs and possibly even death.
Engine began knocking while driving. Balance shaft malfunction. Caused vehicle to become non-drivable. Local dealer quoted 6k to fix. Contacted Mercedes Benz which indicated it would offer no assistance in repair of this problem. Internet research shows a consistent problem with the year and c-class vehicles. Other research indicates a defect in the balance shaft used by Mercedes Benz in this model and other models. Mercedes benz issued a service notification about this problem in 2008. Problem occurred on this vehicle while relatively close to home prior to being driven out of town. Had the problem occurred on the road, the driver and vehicle would have been stranded. A non dealer mercedes mechanic stated there was an 8-10% failure rate on the balance shafts in question. Mercedes benz needs to provide assistance to the owners to resolve the ones that do fail.
Car started stalling and transmission refused to upshift. When car slowed it would not accelerate again. Turns out the engine wiring harness failed due to a biodegradable type of insulation used and is shorting out in multiple places. Car started to smoke at one point. This caused dangerous engine malfunction--and a fire-could have been started inside my engine compartment.
