general problems of the 2008 Mercedes Benz C300 - part 1

Recalls need to be fixed.

Rear subframe is rusted and corroded.

Pulled into parking space on side of street and turned off vehicle to pick up restaurant food. Returned to vehicle within 5 minutes, turned the key, and vehicle was dead. 93 year old mother was in car which was now stuck in parking space. We had to open the doors, due to vehicle windows not functioning, to try to prevent inside of car from overheating due to outside temperature. Called aaa, who arrived after about 45 minutes, tried to jump start car, indicated appeared battery was fine. Had to re-contact aaa to get car towed. Waited another 45 minutes for tow truck to arrive. Again checked battery and ignition, battery fine, car was locked in park and steering wheel was locked,. Towing technician had to lift up center console to reach underneath to switch to neutral. Technician had great difficulty getting car onto flatbed of tow truck because it kept slipping back into park. Adding to the difficulty was the location of the car in the parking space on the side of a busy street. Car was towed from newport, ri to tiverton, ri to viti mercedes dealer, who confirmed the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The final bill to repair this issue was $2,214. 15. Upon review of other incidents that occurred with this make, model and year, there have been a myriad of accounts of this same issue going back many years. Based on the numerous incidents of this type and the potential safety devastation this could have caused, the $2,214. 15 paid for repair in addition to $55 for towing should be reimbursed. This is a major safety issue that could be detrimental to the driver, occupants, towing company and other people around the disabled vehicle.

Drove 4 blocks away from my home to the store in merced CA on gst and 20th. . When I tried to start the car it didn't start and my steering wheel was locked. And I couldn't take it out of park. I have had to replace tail lights a few times this last month. ## VIN passed ## mercedes-benz 2008 C300 ##.

I have been taking my vehicle regularly to the dealership for service. I have not once had an issue until this time. During the rainstorms my vehicle leaked through the sunroof and the passenger front and back side got flooded. Filed an insurance claim and the insurance company came back and said we don't cover wears and tears of seals through the sunroof. The vehicle right now is at the collision shop and they said they don't know if the whole sunroof needs to be changed or the seal. They don't want to check because of liability issues. Called the deanship and asked if there were any recalls on the vehicle and they said no. My only concern is if the vehicle is being serviced for a full inspection why didn't the deanship once mentioned about the sunroof seals needs to be changed at least this many times in this many years. The insurance company is telling me the dealership should have noticed this and has to give a list of items that needs to be changed in this many years. Now I have to come up with whatever the cost is going to be out of my pocket during this pandemic times. If it leaks again then I will not have a vehicle to go to work. No work no food for my family. Just trying the get as much as help as possible. Thank you.

Takata recall I was hit in a head-on collision wreck in October 2018 my airbags did not deploy and I've been undergoing excruciating pain physical therapy pain management and will have surgery on my spine soon.

Takata recall, and srs module. Mercedes benz paramus will not fix recall unless I pay 400 dollars for a malfunction on the driver side seatbelt buckle, which works fine and locks in place. For previous recall at Mercedes Benz in englewood NJ, they service shop always upcharges and if I refuse to pay they will not do recall. The englewood one tried to charge me 700 dollars for a O2 sensor that needed to be replaced before they can fix recall and I had refused. This was two years ago. Now on 9/12/18 at 3:00pm I dropped my car off for the recall, then they stated that they will do it, then magically my steering wheel column locked and charged me 1100 dollars to fix it without fixing me recall because they stated that the seatbelt buckle was faulty and they need to fix that and charge me 400 dollars before they can fix recall. I cannot seem to get my airbag fixed even with this recall in place. Can someone please assist?.

Fire occurred while driving on city street.

Since 2012, five goodyear assurance fuel max tires, size 225/45r17 have failed and needed replacement. Goodyear reimbursed us for some of the cost. All tires had a failure not related to tread life. The most recent incident was a tire with less than 10,000 miles. In each case the car was driven within speed limits and did not incur a trauma. We believe the tires, at least four, were from a defective batch. In three of the failures we were lucky that the tire did not catastrophically fail at speeds over 60 mph.

My key is stuck in the ignition and won't come out!! and there's not power for me to turn tjrncar over.

Start failure and locked steering wheel.

Took vehicle in for strange noises. Dealer stated that front axles are coming apart. That large amounts of metal are missing from the front axles.

Belt has torn to shreds has had it replaced 2 times the pullies are bad.

So far nothing is affected but I use this car to go to work every day, to take my children to their sports and do all the errands of my household. . I don't feel safe driving this car anymore always thinking that I can have an accident and can be injured for what it suppose to protect us or even die. I need a solution as soon as possible, I cant wait for something to get wrong. I feel the need to protect my children and myself to a possible danger.

The eis just failed after replacing the battery. Car work fine after the first day I changed the battery, then I parked the car and when I went to start the car later that day it said, take key out of ignition.

I was left stranded last week,it was very late , stop to get gas at a near by gas station . When I went to try to start my car after putting gas . The car would not start . I had to call a family member and a tow truck. It was very late and I was not in a nice area something bad could of happen to me. I called mercedes but they said nothing can be done till I take them the car.

My mercedes C300 2008 was parked in our driveway. I walked outside and was shocked to see that the sunroof glass had inexplicably exploded outward. Please see the attached photos. Our sliding sunroof shade was open. We found glass all over the roof of the car, in the car and on the ground. Fortunately, no family member was close to the car when it occurred. We also feel very fortunate that we were not driving the car, for this defect and resulting explosion could have caused injury and a terrible accident.

Takata recall driver side and passanger side fron airbag light is on.

The engine wont turn on, it has nothing tobdo with the battery, the battery is new and tested as a good battery. This is a common issue in C300 and should be free of charge to mb customers and drivers.

Today, I took my 2008 mercedes C300 to the car wash. They turned off the car to wash it, and once they were done, it would not start. The key locks and unlocks the doors, the lights come on, and the dash lights up. You can insert and turn the key but the car will not start. The drive is locked in park so I was unable to switch gears to neutral. They tried jumping it and it did nothing I didn't think it was the battery but had it checked anyways. When I put the key in the ignition, the display message said 'please remove key'. At any rate, the car had to be towed on a flat bed to the dealership and other owners have stated that it was the ignition switch, but I am awaiting confirmation from the dealership. Upon further research, I have learned that this exact thing has happened to many other owners.

On 12/15/15 my car did not start due to "srs" warning on the display. I had to tow my car to mercedes dealer. They have fixed the issue blaming on battery but my battery was fine all the lights were coming up. Later same week I have received mail from mercedes regarding to a recall due to srs malfunction. Even though dealer new the srs problem they have charged me $300+ labor for it. I would like to get my towing and labor fee which they fraudulently charged for.

I rvcd a recall letter NHTSA recall # 15v711 in mid Dec and still no request to bring my vehicle in for repairs.

Received mb notice for NHTSA recall #15v711 in Dec 2015. I have contacted my local dealer x2- 'no parts yet'. Contacted mb corporate office and again no details provided. As per letter by mb, contact NHTSA to file a complaint if not resolved within 60 days pursuant to law 49 usc chapter 301. Hence the complaint. Mbusa did state that if srs indicator lite comes on to get it fixed at the dealer and then submit bill to corporate for reimbursement. . . Also car involved in takata airbag recall- separate complaint to be filed.

Same issue as literally thousands of others are complaining of. . . Car fails to start due to either a faulty steering wheel ignition lock or eis not recognizing the key and therefore not starting. It has happened twice to me, dealer service advisor knew immediately and even guessed at the model and year of my vehicle, which tells me that this is a prevalent issue, supported by the thousands of posts I have read on various forums. This is a potential safety nightmare waiting to happen, similar in nature, if not scope, to the gm ignition switch recall! the same thing could happen if the failure occurs at highway speed.

I have been driving my C300 for the last 3-4 years and have multiple issues ranging from steering pump failure to condensor issues and lighting issues including a recall for the tail lights. Yesterday after having parked my car for almost 4 days since I commute for work and take train, upon starting the vehicle there was no ignition. I could see the lights inside the car including the speedometer was visible and I can activate the locks with key, but engine would not start. Car is standing in park position so I cannot even move it to neutral. I called mbenz road side assistance and they diagnosed it is related to steering lock. Now that I got it towed, checked with mecedes benz dealership I have to pay almost 1000$ just for this steering lock malfunction. This issue has been occurring to a lot of C300 2008 models. This should be seen as a serious issue as vehicle is totally non-functional. My work is effected and missed a couple business meetings.

Car has faulty steering lock and has to be replaced at a high expense. This seems to be a very common problem as I learned visiting various websites and forums.

The electronic steering lock just shutoff. The car came out of comfort while I was driving, the c-in the box-just disappeared off the cluster and I knew this is what happened because it happened three times them started up two days later. This has been a common problem with mercedes C300 as I read so many complaints and posts.

The electronic ignition system also known as eis is broken. I turned if the car and it did not read my key. After looking in the internet and speaking with the mechanic it is obvious that the models 2008 09 10 have this defective part. I also spoke to a service technician at the dealer who wished to remain anonymous and he admitted that just at his dealer thousands of vehicles are brought in for this same issue and yet Mercedes Benz refuses to recall. The government needs to police thi matter which is costing minimum $1300.

The serpentine belt shredded for the third time after having it replaced twice within four weeks. As of 4/15/2015 this car will have its 4th belt installed. Clearly the tentioner and pully(s) are majorly defected. Each time these incidents were life threatening for me and my daughters. We were simply blessed not have been hit by other drivers when the car lost total control with no steering power. Each time of the car's malfunction, I was surrounded by other drivers, moving with the steady flow of traffic. These are serious issues. I can't imagine if I had been driving on the freeway at a faster pace. Now I am facing the expense of replacing the belt for the third time(making this the 4th belt), replacing the parts, the cost of labor, and the cost for a rental during the repair time. Mercedes should be honorable and demand a recall on these parts immediately, before serious injuries or death(s) occur. This country does not need to be reminded of the senseless behaviors of the Ford pinto or the most recent, Toyota tragedies. Mercedes can control the outcome of these situations with a simple recall. The cost of the parts in bulk or wholesale would be a very small price compared to the heartache of loosing the quality of life or causing the ultimate result - death!.

Car won't start. Key will turn but nothing happens. Tried jump starting the car but did not work. Brought to the dealership and was told that the steering lock is the problem and needs to be replaced.

Hello I am a owner of a 08 mercedes C300 that I bought on 5/26/2014 with about 77700 miles when I bought it and now has about 80600 miles today 11/12/2014. On 11/8/2014 I was running my usual weekend errands ( buying groceries, paying bills, etc. ) when I stopped to buying some things from a corner store and when I got back into my veichle the car would not start when I put my key in. I notice there was not "clicking noise" from when I put my key in the ignition and I could not lower my windows but I still had power now knowing that it was not a power thing I know it had something to do with the igniton. After researching online I noticed hundreds upon thousands of people are having the same issue with the 08 C300 knowing as the eis,esl, or the inigiton failure and repairs up to $2000 in some cases. I got my car towed to a mb dealership here where I live and they are not listening to what iam telling. I already told them what it wrong and they forced me basically to do the diagnostic ($130) and to get a key replacement ($300) so now I am in the whole by a total of $2000. I told then that these issues are happening with other customers and this is a common issue and they dont care at all. How is there not a recall for this? something has to be done about this customers cant be treated like this especially if you bought a car in great condition less than 6 months ago. Mercedes needs to own up to the mistake and do what is right for thousands of people for this issue hopefully there is a recall for this soon because right now I have to take a bus to work everyday instead of having a veichle and o ya they didnt wanna give me a complementary veichle for the meantime.
