1 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2019

On June 9,2019 I was driving going to giant grocery store in west-bard shopping center in bethesda. . In the parking lot I lost control of steering column. Hit a concrete pole and passed out. All of my airbags deployed, time was around I was driving on city road. From river road to westbard. I suffered brain, neck, chest and knee injuries. Sufferred transient global amnesiaf or nearly 4 hours or more. Still recuperating. Last two years getting letters for takata airbag recalls but nothing has been done, did not know that steering column had issues. I did manufacture recommended service. Car has about 48,000 mile on it. It has multiple options upgrades.

2 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

I drove my car to a restaurant. After about 15 minutes, I returned and tried to crank the vehicle. The key fob did not unlock the stirring wheel and tires. I had it towed to the dealership and was told it was a steering column issue. Enough of an issue that it cost me $1000. 00 to repair. I started researching and found that there are many complaints about this same issue. There are references to both the esi and/or esl failures. This is a known issue with Mercedes Benz and I am concerned that this is a safety issue as motorist are left stranded unless towed.

3 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Srs light came on October 2017. I took my car to mercedes of sacramento . The repair tech stated that it wasn't the airbag. The repair tech said that its in the steering column. I believe it is the airbag. I need this fixed.

4 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2017

The esl (electronic steering lock) & the eis (electronic ignition switch) went out at exactly 7 years. My car was parked in my garage and I tired to turn it on and the vehicle would not start. I can here the car trying to crank over but it does not work. There are numerous Mercedes Benz C300 owners having the same problem (steering lock/column). Please issue a recall. Thank you.

5 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2016

Car was operating fine when I got home around noon parked on the street outside my house, at 2pm I was trying to leave. While starting the car the warning showed up on my dash stating "remove key from the ignition". Called aaa to ensure that the battery was ok. Aaa showed up and inspected the car. Battery was up to standards. Mechanic said to use a spare key to test out the issue. Grabbed a spare key and the same warning showed up on the dash. Mechanic said that I need to take the car to the dealer and get my eis system replaced and a steering column. Took it to the dealer, and they told me the same thing. Here you go, final bill $1,600 out the door. Make this a recall item if everyone is having this issue.

6 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

The steering column module is defective and there needs to be a recall. It causes the car not to start as if the battery is dead but its actually something much more serious and expensive.

7 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

I drove my car to a store, turned it off and left it for 10 minutes. When I returned the car would not start. I had a friend try to jump my 1 year old battery amd still no start. My display says to remove key when my key is in. Lights, radio, and locks work but no windows. Dealer says I need a new steering wheel column. This problem is posted everyone online. Seems like a common thing. Dealership says it'll cost me $1575 and take 5 days to fix.

8 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start upon turning the key in the ignition. Also, the gears would not change from park into another gear from the gear box. The contact stated that there was a failure with the electric functions of the vehicle when the failure recurred. The vehicle was placed in neutral and towed to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

9 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

I recently had an issue with my eis on my 2010 C300, the car had roughly 60000 miles when the issue occurred. I parked my car in a parking garage, and when I went to leave work, the car wouldn't start. The steering column was locked, and I was unable to put the car in neutral. The issue seems to be one that occurs in a large number of mercedes cars with similar make/model/mileage, which is generally right outside of the mileage for the standard warranty. Mercedes doesn't allow the issue to be fixed by licensed dealers, and can only be fixed by a dealership. I believe this to be a conflict of interest and somewhat of an ethical dilemma. I am not sure if the eis would ever go out while driving, but if so, that could result in safety issues for the driver.
