Certain mercedes-benz vehicles and one fca model are equipped with driver-side front airbags provided by the supplier tk holdings inc. ("takata"). On January 25, 2016 takata filed a defect information report with NHTSA announcing a potential defect in some of the subject inflators. Based upon takata's information to date, takata is aware of four test ruptures in ballistic tests of non-desiccated psdi-5 inflators. Takata is not aware of any field incidents in which a psdi-5 inflator has ruptured, either desiccated or non-desiccated. Takata is taking this action in an abundance of caution, to address all of the subject non-desiccated psdi-5 air bag inflators, due to the similarities of design and manufacturing characteristics for this type of inflator used in the u. S. Market. Dag is not aware of any field incidents with the subject takata psdi-5 inflators. However, based on the information above and in an abundance of caution, dag will conduct a voluntary recall of the vehicles equipped with subject takata psdi-5 inflators in the united states as identified by takata in the defect information report. Takata recall the inflators have been recalled and mb website indicates that significant degradation of the propellents occurs in 6 to 9 years for people living in humid areas. The call is 9 years old and in a humid area, yet mb refuses to fix airbag, deactivate airbag or provide alternative transportation. Mb is forcing me to assume the risk of driving a vehicle, they admit is likely now unsafe.

Takata recall (#17v017) - my issue with this recall is the unacceptable timeliness in making the necessary repair. In January 2017, I was notified via a recall letter from mercedes that my car's front passenger-side air bag was affected by the takata inflator recall and I would be notified when a repair was available. To date (April 2019), this has not been remedied by mercedes and currently, per their website, there is no timeline on when this repair can be made. This is unacceptable in terms of the timeliness of completing this repair given the serious (and potentially deadly) nature of the flaw with the takata inflators should the air bag deploy. When I addressed my concerns regarding the delay in this repair with my local dealership, their advice was to avoid having a person ride in the front passenger seat - which is impractical and not always possible considering this is our family car.

Takata recall. . . . I have been waiting for a new inflator since January 10th, 2017. Mercedes dealers don't seem to care, just want to sell me a new car. . . Signed frustrated 12/14/17.

Takata recall: still awaiting psan inflators' replacement. I have called the dealership repeatedly to no avail (mercedes-benz of south charlotte, 950 north polk street, pineville, north carolina 28134, (704) 889-4100). If my vehicle contains defective airbags, my family could potentially be in grave danger.
