Apparently the tps (throttle position sensor) which is built into the gas pedal on this 2014 mb Cla250 only lasts so long before it becomes defective under highway conditions and causes the vehicle to go into limp mode. When full acceleration is necessary, the unit will work for perhaps a few months or less, and then continue to fail worse and more frequently with each attempt at full acceleration. At highway speeds, this is an essential feature in a 4-cylinder vehicle such as this one and without the necessary acceleration capability, can expose the driver to serious risk of collision with other on-coming vehicles traveling at highway speeds. This "limp mode" features is extremely dangerous and hazardous to not only the driver of their vehicle, but to other drivers around them since they are left in a devastating position of being unable to accelerate normally and as necessary and as one would expect in any vehicle, let alone a Mercedes Benz. Never before have I driven a car that falls out of full acceleration mode only to subject the driver to serious collision circumstances. Whoever the imbecile is at mb engineering who incorporated this limp mode feature should be fired!!! to make matters worse, this cheaply built tps, which is the cause of the problem in my vehicle specifically, was only warrantied twice by the dealer and now they will not replace it under warranty which is a two-year period. I've only had the part 5 months before it failed again due to poor manufacturing and I had to pay all over again for a new one despite my warranty validity. There have been many other mb owners who have the same complaint for limp mode, which tells me that it's definitely not me, but rather the poorly built or engineered vehicle, as a matter of fact. Mb has denied having these complaints to me, which of course, is a lie. That's misleading and deceptive business practices in my state and mb needs to live up to its warranty provisions and respect its customers.
Common issue with this make and model and many others check engine code p052e.
My engine light is and as per mechanics I have seen it is a very common problem with Mercedes Benz around crankcase ventilation actuator. As per mechanics its faulty part and mercedes have changed it for new models but there is no recall on the older models. Cost to repair the part is around $3500. Issue with the part if causing environment problem as mileages is reduced and more fuel burning. This eventually impacts the engine and car.
As I was driving, the car is on d but it slips into n and I cannot shift to any other gear accept p. This happens randomly and happened three times. I noticed the gla250 also had this issue. I have to turn off my engine and restart my car to get it running again normally.
Catalytic converter got clogged up and car would loose power and not get enough air into engine and catalytic converter right next to the turbo under the heat shield would turn glowing red causing turbo to leak it’s fluids.
Without warning , the vehicle started to shake uncontrollably and was unable to reach a certain speed without the tremors. Very unsafe to drive.
Wont pass emmisions for crank shaft breather that prevents from passing state inspection emmisions fault code p-052e71.
I was driving my car when all of a sudden the car slowed down and the steering became stiff. The pre safe light came on the screen along with "parking brake" "traction control" although the parking brake was not applied. I had to have my car towed home because it was unsafe to drive.
After having 40k service about 6 weeks ago on my 2014 Cla250, 'service required: do not shift gears, visit dealer' light came on from a parked position. Thank goodness I was parked! I've read several posts where this happened while driving at high speeds! this is a very dangerous occupancy. . . A critical failure! anyway, the error message came on when I started the car and the car immediately shut down. It had to be towed on a flatbed as there was no way to even start the car and is at the shop now. My car has less than 42k miles. This really is unacceptable and I am scared to drive the car now after reading it happens while driving too! I haven't read anywhere what the actual issue is, only that after sone people get it back after a software update it happens again. Mb really needs to find out what is causing this critical error and fix it since it is so dangerous!.
Vehicle became inoperative while driving on a highway. Happened twice today on speeds of 60+ mph in heavy traffic. Vehicle decelerated quickly and lost speed, I was lucky to avoid collisions. The console popped up flashing message 'pre-safe functions limited' on the console. The vehicle did not respond to accelerator. After switching the ignition off and on again, the problem temporary disappeared, but then happened again. The vehicle is duly serviced and is still on warranty, there was no accidents or mechanical faults prior to date. Scary and very dangerous. Could have easily injured myself or someone else who would have hit the vehicle which suddenly becomes inoperative.
My car was purchased 8/2014 from Mercedes Benz of henderson nv. This car has had problems the1st day of owning it. This car has been in and out of the shop so many times that I have lost count. I have a folder as thick as my bible. Mercedes won't claim it as a lemon and this car has been in the shop for the same problems with additional problems every time it is taken in. The dealership will not exchange it for a equal car without the option of renewing another lease and increasing the payment. I have experienced hazard lights on the first 30miles. The electrical went out/warning flashers/malfunctioning/inoperable the car has died driving which put mine and others lives in danger. All I'm told is I am sorry. I am drained with dealing with the dealership and going through all of their turnovers with mngmnt. Pablo rodriguez was a gem along with butch who did nothing!!every code that was dcmntd was deleted from the memory. My car was recently in again with inoperable/malfunctioning display/acceleration/pre safe system error in which they said they fixed but less the 24hrs the same problem occurred. The dealership had my car from June 24th to July 10th and same issues but new error messages. I have been without a car since I picked it up and the dealership will not do anything about getting it in sooner then the 25th. They don't care at this dealership nor does mercedes corp. Hrs & hrs of wasted time talking to people who can do nothing. No calls from anyone, I received surveys in the beginning that were never addressed I know that because of my feedback. Ive never experienced anything like this before and it is so disappointing. Overall it has a been the very worst experience that ive ever had owning a car!!! or mercedes that is.
Bought brand new Cla250 a year ago and driving last week on the high way and "inoperative mode" went on and you lose all acceleration power. After I pulled over finally restarting the car a few times I regained acceleration. Currently at dealer being assessed.
Bought the cla 250 brand new in 2014, vehicle has now twice gone in to pre-safe mode and inoperative mode while driving. The car switches to neutral as I am driving and then refuses to shift in to drive or reverse leaving me stranded in the streets on two occasion which could have caused two very serious accidents. The car on the second time had to be towed to dealership who could'nt find anything wrong with the car. There solution was more of a guess about a cpu needing to be replaced.
Car has now twice gone into pre-safe functions limited and inoperative mode (simultaneously) while driving with no notice, effectively removing all ability to accelerate and creating near major accidents both times. The first time occurred on the freeway driving in the second to the left lane at approx 75 mph. Cars narrowly avoided crashing into me while I coasted through high speed traffic to the shoulder. The second time was in town and without warning same thing occurred leaving me coasting in the left lane with a truck narrowly avoiding a collision and the truck having to go into oncoming traffic and back to avoid me. As there was no shoulder I had to navigate and come to a stop in the right lane of traffic.
Purchased my new Cla250 in September 2014. In August of 2015 my car suddenly stopped accelerating while driving 65mph on the NJ garden state parkway!. The pre-safe warning was present on my dashboard. Luckily I was able to pull to the shoulder without causing an accident. This could have caused a major catastrophe killing me and others. I restarted the engine and drove to my destination making sure I stayed in the right lane on the parkway. It failed 2 more times while not on the highway but still a very dangerous situation. Took the car (which had 16,000 miles) to a mercedes dealership when I returned and they performed a series of tests. They found a product technical support system update which involved updating the software. The failure did not occur again until Nov. 2017. I almost got hit by a bus in philadelphia when my car decided to stop accelerating. Finally, driving to the airport doing 70mph the car again displayed the pre-safe warning and rapidly slowed down almost causing a crash on I-78 in NJ. Took the car to a mercedes dealership near me and they said since the car is 2,000 miles beyond the 50,000 mile warranty it's not covered. They are replacing a series of parts that will cost me over $4,000 to repair! there is no guarantee this will even fix the problem. Is mercedes waiting for someone to die before they acknowledge this car has a very serious problem? I have to wonder if there has been any crashes involving this car and nobody survived to detail what was happening! the 2014 cla is not safe and mercedes doesn't appear to be concerned.
Recently, every time I MA driving in the rain, no matter how light the rain is, the traction control light comes on and a message stating"pre safe, functions limited, inoperative" shows up. The vehicle has looses acceleration. This happened to me on the freeway today. This is potentially dangerous as it could cause a serious accident. This seems to be a recurrent problem based on a simple online search.
I was driving on a busy surface street in los angeles when my car lost all acceleration and the message popped up, "inoperable, see manual". I tried to push the gas pedal to quickly move over to the right lane where I could put on my hazard lights but I could not accelerate. I turned off the car quickly and started it again and it went back to working for now. I am terrified for this to happen again, especially because if it happened on a los angeles freeway, I could easily be killed. I am 8 months pregnant and fear for my safety and the safety of my child.
The pre safe mode has happened 5 times on my cla 250 since I bought the car last January. I think the pre safe mode is not safe at all. All of a sudden, the car just lost power, no any feedback when I stepped the gas pedal, the best thing is the break still worked. After restarting the car, the car went well but the engine light was on. However, after two days, the engine light was off so I didn't even have a chance to show to the dealer. It's very dangerous to drive this car on high way, especially in traffic jam.
Vehicle's transmission & throttle response is jerky & unpredictable. Rotors went bad at 5,000 miles, beginning to go bad again at 12,000. Numerous unknown interior rattles. Windshield wiper completely flew off vehicle while driving in heavy rain - visibility instantly reduced to near-zero. On two occasions, the car displayed "pre-safe functions limited/esp inop" message followed by engine immediately losing power on freeway, which could have ended very badly. Not only is this vehicle of poor quality, it is becoming increasingly dangerous to drive. Seriously considering persuing state lemon law.
Pulling off from a cold start, the car slams into 2nd gear. This has happened 4 times, each time from a cold start. A loud bang is heard inside the engine. This seems very damaging to the car. I took it too the dealer the 2nd time it happened and they were unable to replicate.
On October 17, 2014, vehicle 'pre safe functions limited, inoperative' light came on the vehicle while driving on interstate at approximately 50-60 mph. Vehicle would not accelerate so coasted to side of interstate and came to a stop. Tried to accelerate from a stop, car would only move at a few mph and the transmission felt like it was stuck in the highest gear. Turned car off and back on. Problem seemed to reset and was able to drive home. Did not take to dealership for this incident due to reading about others' experience and that dealerships are unable to replicate.
Purchase my 2014 cla 250 in January 2014 for my daughter. In may my daughter call and said the car just stopped running while she was driving it. Didn't really think anything of it because she was a new driver. About 3 weeks later she said it did the same thing. Again in October 2014 I was driving the car. Driving about 40mph and the car just stop moving. A message of inoperative came the screen. I was able to pull to the side of the road. The steering was very hard to turn and nothing would work except for the brakes. If you turn the car off and start it again the car will start working again. Put the car into the shop. They said it was a computer update. Mercedes dealer updated the system. As they were driving the car back to me the same thing happened. So they took it back to the dealer kept if a week and said they fixed the problem. Three months later exactly 1 year having the car. My daughter was driving to school and it stop running again and this time the tire lights came on. So I picked the car up from school and on the way home the car stop running again received the same message as always the car is inoperative. This has happened in one year of owning the car 6 times. This is very dangerous. I do not advise anyone to purchase this car.
On September 10, 2014 and September 21, 2014, vehicle 'pre safe functions limited, inoperative' light comes on the vehicle and the vehicle loses power. Both times driving approximately 50-60 mph. First time driving on street and was able to coast home. Second time I was on major highway. . . . Very dangerous! unable to accelerate both times. Took vehicle into local dealership on September 11th, they were unable to replicate issue and returned car. Did not drive vehicle for 1 week due to travel, returned and within 2 days of driving the car, error message returned and I was unable to accelerate car. To get the car to function, must turn the vehicle off and back on and then it drive-able. Vehicle is currently back at the dealership for repair. This issue actually occurred several weeks prior but I did not report to the dealership because the light came on and quickly went back off. Also experienced slow acceleration issues when moving from a complete stop.
I was driving on the interstate the car lost all power. On the dash board it read inoperative see manual. The can would not move. I almost got kill in the traffic. On 02/23/2015 I was driving on the interstate again the same thing happen again. Each time I took the car to the dealer. I am afraid to drive this car because it is very dangerous.
Traveling approximately 15mph and slowly accelerating, vehicle became completely unresponsive to throttle input, and engine remained at idle speed. Displayed showed the messages "pre-safe inoperable" and "see owner's manual. " after the engine was shut off and restarted, the car drove normally. It was taken into the dealer for inspection and repair, and was returned to me after the service adviser advised me that they could "find no codes. " the very same error occurred a few days later. This time the service adviser said that error codes were found, that there was a "conflict in the programming", that all of the hardware checked out, and that "reprogramming the module" will fix it. 36 hours later it occurred again. This time the adviser said that a Mercedes Benz service database indicated that the problem was with a wiring harness in the throttle, and that replacing that harness will fix the problem.
I was driving on I-85 at 70 miles per hour. The car stop accelerating and on the dash board a message of inoperative, see manual. I was almost hit by many cars. I coasted to the side of the interstate. I almost freaked out. I called the mercedes dealer and I was told to cut the car off and turn it back on. That didn't work. I had the car towed to the dealer. The dealer told me they did some updates and fixed the car. The car did the same thing 2 other times. I could have been killed in the traffic. This time I took that death trap back to the mercedes dealer and left it and informed the dealership to give me another car or give me my cash money back that I paid for the car. I am not taking the car back. I am afraid I will be killed in the car. This is the most scary experience. The dealership told me that there is know fix for this problem the car needs to be grounded before someone get killed.
While driving down the road the car suddenly went into park. The park button was not touched, nothing was near it, and it could not have been accidentally pressed. The car slammed into park on it's own.
While driving the vehicle loses power and barely has any accelerations. The warning sign said inop see owners manual. I had to pull over, restart car then it was back to normal. This has happened twice at the exact same road. I was at a stop light, made a left turn, drove about half a mile then this started. This is very dangerous!.
Car completely shutoff tonight on the highway and luckily I was able to get pulled over without incident. I had numerous messages on the display, including "service required, do not shift gears, visit dealer" and "esp inoperable, see operator's manual". The car would not do anything once I pulled over, nothing happened when I turned the key, no noises, nothing. Mb roadside assistance came and tried to jump start and disconnect the battery to no avail. So, off on the tow truck it went.
The contact owns a 2014 mercedes-benz Cla250. While driving 50 mph, the check engine and rpm warning lights illuminated. In addition, the engine made a loud unknown noise and the vehicle began to lose speed. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fuel pedal was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
I am approximate on the date without going back to service files. The car was new to me at the end of January 2014. Then in mid-March, a couple of thing were happening. The crash avoidance alarm would go off for no apparent reason. Then, inside of a couple of weeks the car lost all ability to accelerate. First time I was in the middle of an intersection. The other two times, open road, in early morning so luckily little traffic. In all 3 cases of the acceleration loss, I was able to coast to the shoulder. It is not as if is a drive train issue. . . If you press on the gas as you are coasting, the engine is just idle. Does not rev. Once stopped completely and restarted, everything was fine. The dash warnings that came up were "inoperative. See owner's manual" (no lie?!) and then "presafe functions limited. See owners manual. " conditions were clear in all cases. Speed at the time of incidents, once 15 mph, twice around 40 mph. I took the car to the dealership. They had for 2+ weeks and the issue would not replicate itself. When I picked up, I was told there was an "update" that was done and maybe that would prevent it from happening again. It did . . . Until two weeks ago. Fast forward to January 2015. The same thing has occurred 3 times in two weeks. Two times inside of 15 minutes in one case. Once in a very risky merging traffic situation. I am writing this on the day that the last two incidents took place. Taking the car in tonight. I really don't want the car back until I know it is fixed or they just replace it. I find it very odd that this has not occurred for approx. 6 months now a rash of the incidents. I am so thankful this has never occurred in heavy traffic. I'm gun shy now.
I have partial video if this incident. Incident occurred at 991 odometer miles. After driving approx. ~300 mostly contiguous, flat, rural highway miles in-between Lincoln, ne and st. Louis, mo (heading to atlanta, GA) in approx. 30° weather on dry pavement, the engine stopped producing enough engine power to propel the vehicle at the 70-75 mph that I was traveling. At approx. 60-65 mph, I applied additional pressure to the gas pedal which was not effective. Pushing the gas pedal to the floor did nothing except, occasionally, the transmission would switch quickly in-between the same two gears, which registered slightly on the tachometer but did nothing to accelerate the vehicle or maintain speed. It almost felt as if the traction control was activating (but malfunctioning) despite the ground being totally dry. By approx. 50 mph I was being flanked and tailgated by two clearly disgruntled semi-trucks as I tried to pull over to the right. The vehicle seemingly would maintain a max. Of 35 mph. Upon restarting the car (normal start), letting it idle (normal idle), and then attempting to drive to a safer location, its acceleration felt restricted at lower rpms, but it did back up to highway speed and the restricted feeling ended up being temporary. The nearest dealer was mb of marion, IL. , approx. Another 200-300 miles away. On the way to this dealership, the same malfunction occurred again about 50-75 miles later. I went through the same process and restarted the vehicle. At the marion, IL dealer, the mechanic found the following code in the computer: po29921 - boost pressure of turbocharger too low. The mechanic at the marion, IL dealer and, later, at another dealer closer to where I live (mercedes of south atlanta) was not able to replicate this code and therefore no repairs have ever been attempted or made. This issue has not re-occurred here in georgia.
