The fuel tank has a leak from a defect in the plastic, and my local mercedes dealership is unwilling to honor the warranty coverage extension that covered fuel tank components to replace the fuel tank.

For several months I been smelling different odors from my 2012 Cls550, getting stronger as the weeks go by now smelling like gas, would noticed puddles whenever I parked from rear driver side area towards middle, just got the news from the mechanic that the driver side fuel gas pump is cracked and leaking gas and passenger side is also cracked. Labor + parts $1,660. 00. .

There is a strong odor of gasoline coming from the drivers side rear. I conducted a google search on the issue and there are a lot of instances of the same thing. It appears to be the gas tank sending unit, they have a tendency to crack and leak.

I have Mercedes Benz cls 550. Whenever I fill up a tank full, I smell gas in the car and in my garage. After researching the cause of this issue , I found its a common issue with Mercedes Benz older vehicles where the fuel sender unit cracks and start leaking gas which is located under the rear seat driver side. Mercedes benz sent a recall notice for same problem for older vehicles from 2006-2008 to fix this issue. Below are the steps to reproduce the issue 1. Fill the car up. 2. Drive straight home. 3. Park in the driveway. 4. Take rear seat out(pull up on the leading edge of the lower cushion. . . There are 2 tabs to depress then the seat comes up) 5. 8mm socket and take the drivers side inspection cover off. 6. There will be a fuel lake around that sender.

The failed component of the car was the drivers side fuel transfer pump. After noticing the faint smell of gas in my car I checked under the rear driver side passenger seat. I was shocked to find more than 16 fluid ounces of gas floating freely around the well of the gas pump. The insulation under the rear passenger seat is soaked in gas. I can only imagine what could’ve happened if there was an accident or if someone even sparked a cigarette in my car. Not only is this extremely dangerous, there are negative consequences that result from inhaling gas constantly while driving. Gas contains cancerous properties, people should not be subject to unknowingly driving around a car that is manufactured to the defect of releasing cancerous vapors. Who knows what damage inhaling gas fumes for the past months has done to me or my passengers. In the even that someone were to spark a cigarette in the car it was possible that the car could’ve caught fire. The passengers in the rear right seats would be affected the most, the insulation under their seat is soaked in gas. This problem has possibly been noticed by dealers and identified in a warranty that expired on 4/24/2023. This warranty was issued for fuel tanks and fuel components. I am not sure whether the gas pump was affected but the gas pump alone constitutes a recall. This is a very common problem as well, apparently there are multiple youtube videos demonstrating gas leaks in the back seat. Upon contacting dealer I was informed that they did not know if the gas pump was included in a warranty that expired in 4/24/2023. I would have to pay for an inspection to determine if the gas pump is related to the warranty. In the case that it was related the financial obligation to repair is my burden. The dealer wont inspect the vehicle unless I pay, I have documented photo and video of the gas well and the extent of the leakage. There was no warning or any indication that I was driving around with this dangerous issue.

Premature rusting on brake and fuel lines which lead to further issues with driveability and saftey. This us caused by the same defects leading to the premature rust on the subframe that can cause a serious wreck on the interstate.

Re 2006 Mercedes Benz cls500_ 211017_114326 on August 9, 2021, my brakes went out on the freeway when trying to Dodge debris and other vehicles, when the brakes  completely went out and caused me to run over major wood pallet debris, and scared for my. Life to get to the far right lane to make it off te exit with no brakes whatsoever. And causing major under-carriage repairs. Rather than hit the cars on each side of me, all I could do at that point was get over lanes with no brakes, and make it off the exit before I killed myself and/or someone else. The damage  done from the brakes going out, came to over $4000 in damage repairs to the under-carriage and left me without a vehicle for 45 days while in the shop this not only effected my income since  the vehicle was used for lyft,, but I also was evicted from my apt. 30 days later, while my vehicle was in the shop, and unable to work to pay my rent. Once getting the car back these past few weeks, even though repairs were done, the car has continued to threaten my life and others, as the brakes continue to randomly go out at a light, on the freeway, behind a merging car, and ive come so close to having another bad accident. Not to mention since the accident, I am now getting gasoline fumes that seep throughout my car while driving, so profusely, its causing me migraines. But most of all the risk of a fire!.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 mercedes-benz Cls550. The contact stated that after refueling and parking in the garage the odor of fuel was present coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection it was discovered that fuel had leaked from under the rear driver side seat. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000. Jft.

Smells like gas inside the car after filling up with fuel. Only smells inside the car and is very strong.

Fuel/propulsion system failed during operation on x-way. Squeaking noise front suspension. Wheel rims cracking. Replacement key fob not working.

Unknown every time the car is refueled there is a very strong smell of gasoline in and around the vehicle. If you check carcompliants. Com the are many complaints about this defect. . In the article @ car complaints . Com the nhsta claims it knows about the problem but since Mercedes Benz has completely ignored the this dangerous situation and neither of you have not followed thru with Mercedes Benz's offer to extended a warranty to 15 years for all these cars , ie e class, Cls550 and others, mb denies this is a proplem ,the NHTSA is part of the issue since they have not enforced the promise by Mercedes Benz to recall and extend this all current owners of these vehicles , since they refuse to acknowledge this issue my next step is a major class action against mb and nhsta for neglince in following up on mb promises which were made in return for the nhsta not enforcing a recall of these vehicles.

I am referencing action # pe12001. After each of my last two fuel filllings, the car is emitting a very strong smell of gasoline from the back seat & trunk compartment. I park my car in my garage and the smell is strong enough that I can smell it in my home. I am extremely fearful that there will be a fire. I do not desire to park my car outside, but I believe the car is unsafe to keep in garage. I have lost confidence in my car fearing that even driving it around town could pose a danger to me and my passengers.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Mercedes Benz Cls550. The contact stated that after re-fueling the vehicle there would be a strong odor of fuel present inside of the cabin of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the vehicle would exhibit problems starting. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was fuel leaking from under the drivers side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the left fuel level sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Wh.

After filling up my car with gas I noticed a very strong smell of gas after I turned my car off. The garage smelled so bad I had to open both doors. I did not notice any leaking. I see some other cars like mine have the same problem. This is dangerous and a health issue. Mb so do a recall on this issue.

I filled my car up Sunday and parked it in the garage, the following morning there was a strong fuel smell that permeated the garage and all around the car. I looked for leaks found none. The smell was coming from under the seat on the drivers side rear. I reviewed some online forums and noticed this seems to be a common occurence with these vehicles. This is very dangerous and a saftey hazard.

On March 10, 2012 my wife started the aforementioned vehicle and immediately began to smell gasoline fumes in the passenger compartment. As she exited the parking garage, the toxic fuel smell became unbearable and she immediately turned- around, re-entered the garage, quickly shut off the car and exited the vehicle for fear of fainting and / or an explosion. The mb rep explained to us that there was a failure in the fuel delivery system; which is accessible under the backseat of the passenger compartment; and the leakage caused fuel to be pumped into the passenger cabin and accumulate under the rear seat; thereby saturating the insulation, carpet and rear seat cushions. The mechanics replaced the fuel system; and reiterated that the gasoline leaked up into the passenger compartment (from the faulty fuel delivery system located under the back seat of the vehicle), saturated the carpet, the floor insulation as well as the actual seat cushions. In our opinion, a critical vehicle design safety feature (in the event of a collision) is not to permit fuel to be pumped into the passenger compartment; which would increase the likelihood of an interior explosion, and at a minimum impair the ability of the occupants to safely exit the vehicle, before succumbing to toxic fumes. The dealer service rep?s response was: ?mb has determined that the safest place to locate the fuel delivery system is under the back seat of the vehicle?. I implied that his response was not acceptable. Interestingly, the mb dealer service rep called us and said mb inc. Would cover the cost of the repair. However, repairing the passenger compartment damage and defective fuel system does not alleviate the cause of this dangerous situation.

Ive had this vehicle for years. Each time I fillup, there is a very intoxicating smell of fuel inside and outside the vehicle. I was reading up on it and seems to be a common problem. This is a true health hazard as you cannot breathe right beause of the fumes. Not to mention the chances of it catching fire.
