The contact owns a 2010 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated that the engine was misfiring and shifted limp mode. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 22v168000 (exterior lighting, electrical stability control, engine, and engine cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.
While driving on us 50 my the sbc failed while driving 60mph I had no brakes the indicators told me to turn the vehicle off and to depress brakes fully. That's hard to do whn ur going 60mph. . . So I had to let the vehicle drift until it came to a stop on the side of the highway. . . Please get mb to correct this problem before someone loses their life. . . After this incident my check engine light came on had the vehicle diagnosed the independent mechanic said as a result of the engine revving so high when the breaks failed I got trouble codes p0016 and p0017. . Related to the balance shaft. . . The vehicle has not been serviced. . . Based on the price I was quoted in order to repair the vehicle I was told it will cost between 4 to $5. 000 usd for repairs.
Distronic was in use, and failed. Abs locke up, causing me to skid into another vehicle.
08/13/2018 when I was driving home today steering and brakes failed for like 1-2 minutes and I lost control. . Then all the instrument warning lighting started to flash continually the temp gauge and rpm was in motion. Srs and all pre safe functions malfunctioned I can send an video of this if there is a way to upload. I think this is a serious safety issue what if I lost control on a highway, even for a split seconds. Why I bought a mercedes I thought its a safer car well that's how they advertise it the best or nothing. But that couple of minutes was scary and shocking for me.
My vehicle gives me warning codes out of no where collision assist inoperable blind spot assist in operable. Lost all power getting on hwy shut vehicle off restarted now it drives still getting error messages.
This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I have sent a copy of the mercedes service bulletin s142. 46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.
My car while I was driving on the street just shut down red flashing screen saying stop reduce breaking power start engine don't know it says this cause car don't have any power the gas peddle don't work the breaks didn't even good thing I was going slow in my area had to get car towed to my mechanic which they told me my air filters was clogged which I payed them to get new ones then I still wanted to find out why my car just shut down so took it to mercedes dealer in fort washington PA the check it out and said my breaks was wearing so I had to pay them 589. 00 for front and back brakes sbc system they said is ok I am still scared of this car.
Spent over $2k just on diagnosis and wrong fixes. It started with problems cranking. I replaced the key fob, replaced the battery, replaced the alternator, have had mercedes diagnose with no answers. My usual mechanic diagnose with no answers. A european speacialist replaced the alternator and tensioner pulley. Took it to a friend and we discovered that there was a leak in the sunroof running down the side of the car into the battery compartment. At this point various problems are going on. The windows, door locks, radio, cranking, all intermittent but not always at the same time. Took it to another mechanic who said the sans module is bad, at least. An $800 fix, then they could move to the next module and the next. Also maybe unrelated but maybe not. Low car light came on. Engine 'died' (vehicle lost all power) while traveling at highway speed or will jerk down gears and only continue to function in drive @ 40mph or lower. I had to pull vehicle over on side of the road with no power assistance steering or braking. This problem occurred with no warning and at highway speeds creating an immense safety risk. Many others have reported the same issue with this and related cars for this and nearby model years. Like them, I wonder why there is no recall. Mercedes benz will not replace these defective parts willingly and there are many of these cars driving down our highways placing not only the passengers at risk but other drivers around them.
Smelling strong gasoline inside and outside car after running the vehicle, why doesn't recall no. 2008020001 apply to my vehicle, esp warning light come on and gear-shift got stuck, I can't shift to other gear from park position.
On two occasions (once from a stop and once while moving at 30 mph) I have pressed the gas pedal to the floor to accelerate quickly and the car has malfunctioned. Both times the electronic stability control immediately became disabled, the esc warning indicator lights came on, and the engine stopped responding to my pressing the gas pedal. I was able to maintain forward movement but I could not accelerate. I could press the pedal to the floor without the rpm gauge needle moving. There was a real danger of being hit from behind when this happened because I was slowing down unexpectedly. I pulled to the side of the road, turned off the car, and restarted if after about 6 seconds. Once I restarted everything returned to normal. I have never had a car in which I lose the ability to control speed by pressing the gas too hard. I am told it is some type of "safety" feature to protect the transmission ("limp home mode") but I find it to be very dangerous. I would rather destroy a transmission and have the car respond to my commands then have a computer decide to turn off the accelerator while I am driving and risk a rear end collision. I see some similar comments about this on the intranet for mercedes.
The engine of my car stalled suddenly, braking power was reduced dramatically. I was about to get into a serious crash but likely this happened in a local street at a traffic light when everyone was ready to slow down and stop. My dealer told me the engine stalled due to a broken vacuum intake manifold linkage which controls air in and out in the system. The only way to fix is to replace the entire manifold ($2100) and Mercedes Benz does not offer an extended warranty on this component. I was surprised with the quality of mb especially when I checked the internet to find out hundreds with the same incident and with many unpleasant customers. The broken intake manifold linkage is 100% design issue. My car has 107k miles, I had my extended warranty up until 100k, so I can't believe these 7k miles caused this linkage to be broken. It is a design issue (probably cheap plastic part that aged over time). Mb had several extended warranty on other major components such gas tank ($2,400) and sbc pump ($2,000) due to fatal incidents, so I am not sure how many people have to die in car crashes before mb offers this extended warranty. I can't believe I am saying this about mb quality, but just go online and you will find out more and more about these issues. The problem with this component is the fact that it is unpredictable because it depends on the position of these flabs (closed, semi opened, opened position). Which makes it scary to drive the car when you know that this may happen at any time and it could impact your life and the lives of your beloved ones and probably others who would be driving around you.
While driving on a side street looking for an address, a warning message appeared something like "lane guidance system inoperative". Subsequently, the engine lost power and would not move the vehicle more than about 3 mph. We pulled off to the side, not knowing what to do. I shut off the engine and restarted it and it appeared to work normally for the rest of the trip home. We wonder what would have happened if we had been in a middle lane on a freeway when this happened. I plan on contacting the dealer today for more information and to have them inspect the car.
I started my car and it made a big loud noise from engine then I start getting all messages on screen that every things not inoperable. Even the gear shift was locked and the more I kept the car on the more noise was making. Its like I am pushing hard on gas panel.
Cruising at 65 mph the esc lights came on and the car lost power. It no longer responded to the accelerator and required that you pull off the road, come to a stop, and restart the car. This same problem has happened 3 more times once at 35 mph on a straight road; once at about 20 mph making a turn and again cruising on an expressway at ~50 mph. This is an extremely dangerous defect, since a failure of this type when entering a highway or trying to overtake another vehicle could cause a high speed accident, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. The car has been to the dealer twice to fix this, and is now back for the third time.
Twice, recently while under hard acceleration of overtaking other cars the fault "esc inoperative" appeared on the dash along with the warning lights. This happened once during the initation of an overtaking on a two lane road with oncoming traffic and another time at 75 mph while overtaking another vehicle on a two lane freeway. In both instances, vehicle was under hard acceleration, and the failure appeared immediately. After the fault appears, the car is significantly underpowered at all speeds and has difficulty achieving the acceleration needed in such conditions. At low speeds it is extremely underpowered and has difficulty accelerating away from a stop. The problem can temporarily be resolved by restarting the engine.
The contact owns a 2014 Mercedes Benz E350. The contact stated that the lane control feature failed to work intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact waited longer than six weeks for a response from the dealer who indicated that the concern was to be escalated to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
My claim # is10691110 the lane control does not function consistantly. Sometimes when you cross a line, the rear brake on the opposite side of the car automatically applies bringing the car back to the center of the lane, other times it doesn't. I demonstrated this to the maintenance mgr. With no satisfaction. I've discussed with a case mgr on several times, with no satisfaction. I've written the pres of mercedes on two occassions, who referred my concern back to the same case mgr. Who says it is functioning as designed,in spite of the fact I demonstrated to the dealer maint. Supervisor that it doesn't. I asked for a regional person to ride with me so I could demonstrate the inconsistancy of the way it functions. I was denied my request. Nhtsa seems to be my only hope for getting my safety concern resolved for me and any others who may have the same problem. The problem was demonstrated on state rt. 33 in dublin OH. With painted road lines that were consistint. I have many notes of additional detail if wanted.
I was driving on the turnpike and thank god no other cars were next to me. Sometimes when I go over 50 the car tends to pull in another direction. I took it to get service a week after I bought it and got my car back 6months later. Than the accident happened. They just replaced computer chip they said. The car has never driven right since I bought it. So when the car decided to pull to the left I was pulling with all my strength to just keep the wheel straight but I had no control and spun around 5 times n landed backwards on the turnpike facing on coming traffic. I'm so upset that I never got to enjoy the vehicle it still pulls and the dealership always says its fine. The car raddles. One day I was driving n the seat I was sitting on blew up for no reason. They replace only the inside parts and never the stitching on the seat so I have a ripped seat for something that was not my fault . This call is def a lemon or should be recalled.
I just was advised by my mercedes only independent garage that the on-going cel on my 2006 E350 (48000 miles) is for the camshaft wear mentioned in this lawsuit. The mechanic advises repair cost is $6200. He has the bulletin and has seen this issue in multiple cars. I will be complaining to the NHTSA and hoping NHTSA can recover my damages for this obvious and known defect. Check engine lights star diagnosis indicated : code 1200 and 1208 ( p0016 and p0017) for mb E350 2006 48000 mil mercedes has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to notify any owners of the problem. Probably because the repair is so expensive ranging from $4,000-$8,000 and with most, the problem doesn't show up until after the warranty has expired. So it's a win-win situation for mercedes. I don't feel all warm and fuzzy inside because mercedes offered to put a little "goodwill cash" towards a repair that cost me thousands that they should have covered in full. And their 2 "rules" for qualifying for "goodwill assistance" for the repair has nothing to do with the repair. It's not preventable. If your vehicles falls between the serial numbers, your balance shaft will fail. On facebook specifically for the balance shaft you can get information and a number of vehicles affected. .
