Exisiting issue NHTSA action number ea13003 fuel sender leakage already 116 reports on the E55amg model per the report. This will increase to 117. Total cost to me quoted at $1300. 00 in 2012 I paid approx. $2000. 00 for a separate issue with the fuel system. I am the original owner of the car and have had all service performed by mercedes.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

At approximately 9:00 pm on may 14th, 2014 I noticed strong fuel odor surrounding my entire vehicle upon exiting the cabin. I had just refueled and was stopping at a grocery store on the way home. I did a quick visual and sniff check around the vehicle and noticed that the smell was strongest in the vicinity of the passenger rear wheel arch. About 20 minutes later I returned to my vehicle and the odor was noticeably stronger. In addition to that, there was now an approximately 2 foot by 3 foot pool of gasoline on the ground on the passenger rear side. Furthermore, gasoline fumes could now be smelled inside the vehicle as well. I had my wife move the car out of the parking spot and could clearly see a trail of gasoline dripping from underneath the vehicle. I was previously aware of this as a potential issue with these vehicles but had not experienced this on my own vehicle until now. I knew better than to top off past the automatic pump shutoff - and I in fact did not top off - and this is not a case of fuel spraying out of the filler neck. There is a reason that would cause such a large amount of fuel to be leaking from these vehicle's fuel systems. I've had countless cars in my life and this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. I have the original window sticker for my vehicle showing an original cost of close to $90,000. To have a condition where fuel is leaking like this is simply unacceptable - not to mention potentially deadly. I believe that Mercedes Benz states there is not any danger of ignition, but what if the ignition source comes from some other source unrelated to the vehicle such as as a discarded cigarette or some other type of spark? are we going to have to wait until people die in order to get Mercedes Benz to admit that there is a product flaw?.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

I started smelling a fuel odor for the past few weeks now. My car is not under warranty so I didnt take it to the dealership due to charges. I took my rear seat out to find a huge puddle of fuel under it. The fuel sending unit fitting was snapped. (I think there is a group of us having this same complaint for many years now).

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

Like many before me I am currently experiencing the smell of fuel in the cabin of my mb. This creates a big problem in so many ways; first and foremost the danger of inhaling gas fumes is both toxic and causes immediate dizziness even in small doses (when inhaled) with all the windows down, the long term effects of inhalation can cause cancer and other bodily harm. Second, the fact that there is exposed fuel to air makes gas more combustible and lethal when introduced to heat, fire, friction, and may other factors of the fire triangle. Third, these cars with exposed fuel issues are also hazardous to other motorists, pedestrians, motorcycle riders, and so on whom may come in contact with these vehicles. Exposed fuel is dangerous, and toxic in short and I hope the nhsta and Mercedes Benz will come to a quick resolution to this problem these particular luxury cars are having.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Strong smell of gas inside the cabin of the car while idling. My wife and I picked up our children from the baby sitter's residence. I left the car idling in the driveway of her residence. Upon returning to the vehicle, we noticed a strong smell of gas inside of the cabin of the car, especially in the back seat. After removing the back seat, I removed the covers for the fuel sending units and noticed that there was a pool of gasoline covering the outside of the fuel sending unit. After doing research on the topic, I came across at least 80 documented cases of the same or similar issues filed under ea13003. I would like to add my vehicle to this complaint in hopes of garnering action on the part of mbusa to remedy the problem. The cdc recognizes the dangers especially in children to prolonged exposure to gas fumes. Help!.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2013

When I fill up there is a strong smell of gasoline inside the cabin of the car. This made me dizzy and nauseous and could have lead to losing control of the vehicle. It also is an emission violation for mercedes to sell their cars in this country with serious safety and emission defects like these "high end" cars have. Please be our advocate and make mercedes pay for their failure to engineer a sound file system.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2012

I get a gas smell outside the car only after I fill up the car with gas. I do not tap it off I wait until the gas pump cuts off. The gas smell only last until the 1st bar is gone on the gauge.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

In the original instance, which happened about 3 years ago, every time that I would do a complete fill up with gas, the car would smell like gas horribly in the cabin as well as outside the car. After that started happening, I refrained from filling the car up completely to avoid the problem. The problem has returned and my car has roughly 132000 miles on it. I filled up my car and noticed a horrible gas smell. I looked under the car and noticed very large puddles of gas literally running away from my car. My car is leaking gas profusely only upon complete fill up. It is coming from beneath the car under what would be the rear passenger's seat, nearly in line with the rear wheels. This item was supposedly repaired once before by the mercedes dealership in bakersfield, CA. I paid for the entire repair if I remember correctly.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

The fuel sensor failed, resulting if fuel leaks. There are many reports and mercedes denies the problem. Amazing that such a big safety issue is being ignored and denied by mercedes. This is so prevalent, in a pretty rare car, that my dealer stocks the repair parts. Even my service adviser was surprised they did. In reading mercedes' response to the investigation, it is almost a joke. They claim that since this isn't directly related to the recall, there isn't an issue. That make absolutely no sense. Perhaps it isn't related to the recall, but you have 50+ complaints for a car where around 1,500 were imported. Estimating 1 in 10 people actually complain that means that 1/3 of the cars have the problem. If it is 1 in 20, than 2/3rds have the problem. At $1000+ to fix, mercedes is making a ton of money on their failure.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

Complaint # pe12001 I noticed occasional fuel smell originally 2-3 months ago. Initially smells were mild, now smells are noxious and getting worse. At my last 10k miles oil change, discussed the problem and progression getting worse with my mercedes certified mechanic. The rear seat was removed, to find the upper part of fuel cell under passenger seat, with deterioration of upper part of fuel cell plastic. There was actually a gas "puddle" visible that had seeped through the top of fuel cell/sending unit. Very dangerous situation, risk of fire, and also causing headaches from noxious smell of gas !!! what can be more dangerous, gas leaking, and seeping into the interior cabin of an automobile ??? please intervene with this dangerous problem with a recall before deaths occur to a very dangerous problem. Obviously a manufacturer defect in substandard parts purchased to a fuel cell from manufacturer Mercedes Benz !! this same problem has affected many Mercedes Benz vehicles. Thanking you in advance [xxx].

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2012

Noticed a gas smell outside of the car when it was sitting still and I looked under the car and fuel had puddles up under it. Opened the doors and noticed a strong fuel smell inside the car. Pulled out the rear seats and lifted up the liner under the seats and noticed fuel was pooled up in the passenger side bowl under the seat. The seal that is bolted down has pushed out and is allowing fuel to come inside the car and has soaked into the liner under the seat. Also the bolt that holds down the sending unit will not screw into the hole due to the bolt hole being stripped out. I am wanting this to aid in the class action lawsuit against Mercedes Benz in the negligence of the fuel system leaks in the 03-06 e series Mercedes Benz cars.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

On three separate occasions the entire interior of the car has smelled of fuel. There is no evidence of fuel leaking on the ground during these events. The smell was most evident after driving on the highway and noticed when coming to stop. The smell is strongest inside the car and is very worry some. I have found several similar stories which can be found in the following link on mbworld. . Read more...

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

Nhtsa action #pe12001.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I bought the car, great car but car smelled of gasoline badly, lifted the back seat and was drenched in gasoline, brought to the dealer in west palm beach, they changed out a bunch of parts over 2500$ in repairs, and all was well, thank god because a have an infant and he should not be subjected to those awful dangerous fumes, all was good, then a few months later in November 2012 happening again and both fuel senders had to be changed again, thank god was under dealership warranty, mercedes needs to step up and see that this is a defect from the manufacturer.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

In December 2011 I detected a strong fuel smell from inside the cabin of the car. The smell was so strong that I felt it was in my best interest to drive to the nearest european car service center, since the nearest mb service center is 45 minutes away. It was determined that the charcoal filters under the rear seat were leaking, causing fuel to pool. We called the mb service center and was told there was a recall on the charcoal filters but it was closed. I was incredulous that such a serious problem (any leaking fuel issue should be considered serious) was completely ignored by mb and I was on my own. I had no choice but to pay to have the filters replaced at my expense out of fear of my car exploding. Now, July 2012, the charcoal filter valve is leaking and causing another gas odor. So I started researching this issue and was surprised to find a great number of other consumers facing the same issues as myself. Everyone experiencing these issues after the recall was closed seems to be in the same boat, mb refusing to issue another recall and/or cover the cost of the repairs. I believe that mb should be responsible for correcting all issues related to leaking fuel for the continued safety of all mb owners. Quite frankly, I'm scared to drive my car!.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2011

Fuel filter and sending unit leaking under rear seat. Both parts replaced. Rear seat cushion saturated and required replacement due to strong fuel smell in vehicle. Vehicle service history shows same part replaced at 26,864 miles by previous owner. Same part replaced again at 69,383 miles with same leaking issue.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2008

There was a recall back in 2008 regarding fuel leak. I had it fixed under the recall back in 08 and thought the problem was resolved. Until now sometimes I would smell gas in my car but would go away no big deal but on 8/10/12 the gas smell was so bad and saw gas leaking from the rear driver side of my car. I know this is a known problem with my car as I have found many similar complaints on the mercedes forums. Dealer will not do anything for me since the recall was worked on. Please kindly advise me what steps to take as this is a serious and dangerous issue.
