1 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E550

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

Dealer reports that, in addition to the dangerous corrosion on rear subframe covered by the extended warranty program, the rear brake lines are dangerously corroded and may fail at any time. I inquired about how this is even possible as I am accustomed to vehicles with cupronickel brake lines that do not corrode. I was told they are merely enameled steel on this model and prone to premature corrosion where they are mounted to the chassis with plastic clips that wear off the enamel and allow premature corrosion and eventually catastrophic failure. I was also told the replacement parts are now cupronickel, indicating mercedes understands the original design was defective. I believe this should have been covered under the same program as the rear subframe, not be used as an upsell tool to customers affected by that issue. I also believe steel brake lines should just be banned outright for all vehicles, the risk of rupture due to corrosion leading to brake failure is far too high.

The contact owned a 2012 mercedes-benz E550. The contact's husband stood on the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to respond and crashed into a small ditch. The contact was occupying the front passenger's side seat at the time of the incident. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. The air bags deployed. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the air bags. Both the contact and her husband immediately exited the vehicle. The contact's husband did not sustain any injuries. The contact stated that her left arm was deformed. The contact was transported to the hospital by a family member. 5 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E550

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

In the fall of 2021 the car started to received errors related to the abs control unit that failed preventing 1) antilock braking, control of esp (limiting poor handling), and cruise control. At the time of the failure, the car only had 31,552 miles and was properly maintained. Mb has extended a warranty for several models and years. . . But even though my 2008 e-class is not included in the warranty extension, several models (thru 2012) had their warranty extended for 25 years. I have not been able to get a answer why the e-class after 2006 was excluded. The symptoms and parts diagnosed match the warranty 100%.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz E550

I procured the vehicles 32,000 miles as a cpo. It had new brake rotors on it. Over the next 75,000 miles the brake rotors had to be replaced 7 times for warping and dangerously increasing stopping distances. This apparently not unusual for this vehicle.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz E550

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

I have had a 2013 mercedes-benz E550 for nearly three years now and like it in many respects except one. It bothers me every time I drive so much so that I feel compelled to get it off my chest. When I slow the vehicle to an imperceptible crawl, the automatic adaptive brake assist kicks in, bringing the vehicle to a sudden, abrupt and jerky stop unless the gear is in neutral. It is annoying, especially when you have guest passengers. It reflects poorly on the driver and the embarrassment is regretful. I have owned and operated luxury cars including mercedes-benz for years but have never experienced this nuisance like this. I could not understand the justification on account of safety, convenience or comfort for mercedes-benz engineer to implement such a measure. I can understand the benefit of brake assist in a panic situation, but this is in no way close to any simulation of a panic stop. I complained to the local mercedes-benz dealer as well as mercedes-benz USA headquarters about this anomaly and thought that they might have a technical service bulletin and could tweak the computer firmware to bypass adaptive brake assist at near zero speed. They told me that they could do nothing when the designer intended the vehicle to act that way. Is this an example of over-engineering or oversight?.
