We driving along on the freeway when my wife bumped a cup of coffee in the cup holder that caused a small amount of coffee to splash out of the cup and onto the console. In about 10 minutes a number of things happened, first the instrument cluster went blank, speedometer, tack, etc, and all vehicle alarms came on, second the transmission was locked into high gear and the car would not downshift. I noticed when I came to a small rise in the road the car would not downshift so I lost power. When I stopped the car and put transmission in park, it locked in that position and would not shift into any gear and would hardly start. I found this to be unsafe consequence of such a small amount of coffee to be splashed onto the console. After having the car towed to the repair shop I was told there was a module in that area that affected nearly every aspect of the car. There was something like 60 alarm codes in the car's computer. The bill was $725. This is a freighting thing to happen at 70 mph.
Instrument cluster display has malfunctioned on my 2001 mercedes e320. It is a problem that has occurred in almost every marcedes. The company is aware of the defect and it should be recalled.
Spilled small amount (2 oz maximum) of liquid from cup holder onto shifter console while braking. Car was immediately disabled. It was stuck in 2nd gear. Dealer tells me and I have subsequently verified on various mercedes owner forums that this is a significant design flaw with this car that should be covered as warranty. Repair cost was over $1000. Most expensive two ounces of fluid I have ever seen. I report this because it is a very widespread problem that many people have encountered. Mb is deliberately trying to keep this quiet.
When coffee spilled on the dashboard and the gear shifter, the consumer was unable to take the gear out of park.
I have a mercedes-benz e-class cdi that has a defect in the braking system. This is not a safety issue, but rather the brakes make a high pitched squeaking noise when applied. I have been told that this is a known problem in germany and that the noise cannot be fixed. This problem began within 1 month of the purchase of this vehicle. Purchase date 4-29-05.
I own a mercedes e 500 ,year 2004. I found out about the recall for the brake problem after I almost kill myself when the brake system failed yesterday. The mercedes failed to inform the consumer esp. This kind of defect. I found out that this recall was since may and had to experience myself before receiving the recall letter. This is not a good bussiness practice and in fact a negligence on the part of the company. This can cause my life and may others who own the same model of car in whom I know a few and they have not received any recall letter.
The 2003 Mercedes Benz e320 has a faulty gateway module and software. This module has resulted in problems being reported in my car that the brakes, self restraint system, telephone system, and tire pressure have failed. I have no way of knowing if the the safty systems are operational or not. At this point I am driving a car that says my srs system is not working. I have been in the mercedes shop no less than 4 times to have the problem repaired. It simply re-occurs after each repair. From research on the internet, this appears to be a common problem.
