I am reaching out to bring to your attention a significant manufacturing flaw in the mercedes Gl450 model, which poses a severe risk to both vehicle functionality and passenger safety. The issue pertains to water infiltration into the battery compartment situated beneath the front passenger seat and concealed beneath the carpet. Even minor rainfall or streetwater has been found to breach this compartment, causing extensive damage to the vehicle's electronic systems. This results in highly precarious and unpredictable behavior, endangering both occupants and road users. As a poignant example, my own Gl450, a 2013 model, has exhibited alarming symptoms. Despite being securely in "park" mode, upon simply opening the car door, it displays a distressing message: "transmission not in p risk of vehicle rolling away. " furthermore, the transmission intermittently ceases to shift from "p," presenting an imminent hazard to myself and my children. Despite numerous attempts to engage with mercedes headquarters regarding this critical matter, regrettably, they have declined to address the issue, citing its expiration beyond the warranty period. However, extensive research indicates that this flaw is pervasive among Gl450 owners, as evidenced by discussions on various automotive forums, such https://mbworld. Html I am profoundly concerned about the gravity of this situation and implore you to take immediate action to rectify this widespread issue. Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience at 917-834-4680. I am more than willing to provide further details regarding my experiences and observations. I earnestly anticipate your prompt response and resolution to this matter.

Oil leaking and wicking into camshaft position sensors, camshaft magnets, O2 sensors, engine wiring harness and ultimately, the ecu is destroying all electronic components connected to the engine causing misfiring and seizing. The issue is quite prevalent via internet research as potentially thousands of owners with my engine (m278) all experience the same issue. Mercedes benz advises a $11,000 temporary fix by replacing all engine electronic components but the problem will occur again since the root cause of the oil leak is unknown. Be advised that this is not a normal wear and tear issue. This is a design flaw of the engine that placed these components in locations predisposed to contact with engine oil. The root cause of the oil leak is unknown and even Mercedes Benz can not tell why the oil is leaking on these components. If this issue is so prevalent with thousands of owners with the m278 engine in the Gl450's, as evidenced by internet searches via Mercedes Benz fan sites, why has no service bulletin or recall been instituted? I am sure your agency can discover numerous examples of this same issue by researching service tickets from Mercedes Benz service centers nation wide. An $11,000 fix is not routine maintenance and Mercedes Benz should be made to fix this prevalent issue via a recall or a service bulletin.

I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the car will downshift and I could only go 40 mph no matter how hard I stepped on the gas. I had to pull over, turn the car off, wait ten minutes and then start it up again. Again this week it also happened.

On 12/30/2017 we purchased a mercedes-benz certified pre-owned cpo vehicle from Mercedes Benz of north palm beach. We arrived at the dealership in the afternoon sent by Mercedes Benz of west palm beach their affiliated dealership for the specific vehicle we purchased. When we arrived at the dealership to view the vehicle, it was not detailed from the previous owner. On the test drive with our sales person I noted unusual noises and ride conditions in the vehicle. The salesperson assured us that it is a cpo vehicle with an unlimited mileage warranty backing up bumper to bumper factory warranty. He gave us an implied oral warranty that the vehicle would be repaired to our satisfaction - not to worry!.

Premature transmission up-shift and remains unresponsive to throttle position. Suspected transmission conductor plate/valve failure as previously mentioned by others for this model year. When will mb acknowledge this is a dangerous condition and issue a recall?.
On January 8, 2014, the owner of the 2012 Mercedes Benz Gl450 was inside her vehicle within the garage of her residence, preparing to leave to perform errands. Realizing she need to attend to her young children, she put the vehicle¿s electronic transmission into park and was exiting the vehicle when the Gl450 suddenly began moving rearward in reverse. The reversing vehicle pinned the owner between the open driver¿s door and the garage wall, impacting the left side of her body with enough force to fracture her pelvis and bend back the hinges of the driver¿s side door (see attached photograph. The vehicle then careened out of the garage with her two small children inside the runaway driverless vehicle. Fearing for the safety of her young children who were still in the Gl450, the severely injured owner ran down the driveway toward the vehicle and reached it just before it crashed into a gate. Please see attached document for details.
While driving on highway, transmission suddenly lost power and went into limp mode (neutral) even though the car was in d and the same thing happened on stop light, car lost the power and I had to accelerate car hard to make it move and still didn't move finally I had to restart it, restarting the car solved the problem but it would come back once you are on highway speed, this can seriously cause the accident as you cant change the lane as your vehicle losses the power and it slows down and couple of times the transmission made a loud boom sound causing the vehicle speed to slowed down in very short span of time, and if the driver behind my car has short distance he\she might end up hitting back of the vehicle, there was a silent mercedes service bulletin s-b-27. 00/120 raised by mercedes date Apr 8 2011 for changing the valve body conductor plate in 7 speed transmission, where as it should have been a recall for 2007-2008 model Gl450 but mercedes got away with it. This is really a safety concern and hidden truth from customers. I would request you to please look into this issue and there are tons of other people on forums who had the same issues for these 2 year models some got the free fix as they was under warrant and some had to pay out of pocket, there were few instances where this conductor plate failed withing 5-45000 miles.
Day before the incident, car would suddenly stick in gear, not shift up or down other than after turning it of. Researched this; seems to be a common problem with this model. Had no time to get it fixed that day, next day got involved in a side impact accident (other driver neglected stop sign) wanted to speed up to avoid collision, but car did not shift down or accelerate. Could not avoid collision. After body work, car would still have same shifting issue. Dealer found out was failing conductor plate and valve body of the transmission.
This vehicle, and all others mercedes-benz manufactures with an automatic transmission shift selector of this type need an added safety feature to disallow a shift from the neutral position to reverse or drive unless the brake pedal is depressed. After reaching over from the exterior of the drivers side window to turn the ignition to the on position to see which headlight was not functioning (as the display message stated), a slight apparent touch upward against the shift selector (located above the key and behind the steering wheel) engaged the vehicle in the reverse position causing the vehicle to reverse at approximately 5 mph for 15 feet and come to a crashing stop against an anchored metal post and fortunately not into any other vehicles, oncoming traffic, structures, and/or another individual. I sustained a minor injury to my left forearm as I unsuccessfully attempted to reach back over while the vehicle was in the reverse motion to turn the vehicle to the off position.

The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes Benz Gl450. While driving approximately 40 mph, the transmission seized and the vehicle abruptly came to a halt. The service engine warning indicator illuminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the defect was related to internal damage within the transmission. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the transmission would need to be replaced due to faulty cam shaft locking. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Vehicle was parked in a parking lot. When we inserted the key in ignition; vehicle started to move forward itself. Luckily, there were not any cars in the front and we were able to stop the vehicle with foot brake.
We have taken this vehicle to the dealer service numerous time complaining some weird noise coming from the left front side of the vehicle and a bumpy ride. Left vehicle with dealer service at least 8 times for the same problem but never fixed. Right before my warranty expired in December 2012; I took it back to the dealer for the same issue and asked them to completely inspect the vehicle for any problems needing repair before the warranty expires. The dealer service found no issues and were not able to resolve the issue of bumpy ride; asked us to replace tires (we were told the same 3 times previously and we replaced tires each time but never fixed the problem) and we replace all four tires the fourth time in 4 years. Picked up the car and noticed no of the issues were resolved; and the warranty eventually expired. Took it back to the dealer for maintenance and they gave mean an estimate of around $1800 for bad left-front strut. They advised me that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle is still at the dealer workshop.
