Wheel Problems of Mercedes Benz GL450

Front drivers side (front left) aluminum wheel rim is cracked and will not hold tire pressure. We loose about 10 psi per day because of it. Now we have to replace this rim at significant cost. However, that's not the main issue. The main issue is whether this is a manufacturing defect that has put our lives at risk since 2014 (bought it brand new) until now in 2023 - over 9 years. The tire dealer firestone discovered the crack and let us know. Yes, available for inspection. Yes, safety has been put at risk. Yes, confirmed by local firestone tire near us. Insurance may inspect it, we are calling them tomorrow as they are closed now. Tire pressure light went on, and has been on for awhile. But who would have thought to inspect rim, it is steel, and should not have cracked. Friends of mine say that it is possibly an oem defect as aluminum cast wheels should not do this. This car has never been in a moderate or serious crash. Fender benders sure, but nothing involving the tires.

Driver's side tire continues to leak air - note low tire pressure even with new tire replacement. Airmatic suspension failure. Rear airbag suspension airbag. Compression also failed. Several complaints to dealer advising the car was bouncing up and down while in drive. Took vehicle to the shop with suspension complaints at the end of April 2021. We were told they did not find an issue with suspension but saw an issue with the sway bar. This cost $549. 00. The week we brought the car home it was still bouncing up and down and we contacted the dealer again and was advised they did not find anything wrong. Within 2 weeks of having the vehicle, I was driving and the vehicle was violently bouncing up and down even traveling at a low level. We took the vehicle back and have not been advised now that they see the malfunction light for the suspension on they realize that's the issue. The suggested cost to repair only the rear is $4k. If the front and rear need repairs it over $7k. The issue is it appears this is a known issue for the airmatic system and with a vehicle in this price range and under 90k miles - appears to be a issue with manufacturing. I was also advised this repair is no longer covered on their extended warranty.

Tl the contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz Gl450. While driving various speeds, the abs indicator illuminated and remained lit. In addition, the esp and check engine indicators also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that all the wheels needed to be replaced and referred the contact to the dealer . The contact called mercedes-benz of south orlando at 407-374-0033 (located at 4301 millenia blvd, orlando, FL 32839) and was informed that the parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

275/55/19 scorpion verde all season plus tires I purchased less than 2 years ago. My wife was driving her mercedes gl 450 on the interstate and the rear passenger tire blew out a sidewall for no reason. I have a report from the tire dealer that there was no puncture or abrasion noted.

Left-front strut leaked causing damages. We have been complaining for 4 years that the left-front of the car was making noise;took it to the dealer for service numerous times but they were not able to fix the problem.

1- brakes; vibration and sever shaking while breaking , since 11/2012 at 2500 miles now at 14000 miles . Pads and rotors has been changed 3 times and problem is keep coming back / 2- vibration while driving : since 11/2012 vehicle vibrates at all driving speed 35-70 and varies of the roads. Has been to services 8 times . All tires has been replaced at 7k miles. Vehicle symptoms gets better after road force balance but returns after few hundred miles. Mb USA has declined the repair! 3- additional problems; driver side lumbar support . Rear door could not be closed , cooling system hose problem , key fobs needed to be replaced , ac control does not adjust automatically in auto position. Pre safe collusion system problem.

Were told by a mechanic at betten imports in grand rapids, mi, that the suspension was stuck in the 'low' position, causing the tires to become cupped and pitted. After keeping the vehicle for one week, betten's service manager said that it was bad tires and not the suspension. Only all season tires available for this body type are not adequate for winter driving, and make driving this vehicle in any precipitation hazardous. Driver had ups driver training experience, as well as, on the road sales driving experience. Vehicle bounces around the road and tires become cupped and pitted. Driver did not have these issues with any previous vehicle. Had to replace the tires three times before 44000 miles. We are not sure if this is really an issue with the tires, or if there is a suspension issue with this vehicle, specifically, or the model of this vehicle, in general. Very unsafe to drive in the winter.

We complained to the dealer service numerous times that the car was making weird noise from the right side and the ride was very bumpy but they were not able to figure out the problem. One day I took it to discount tire for tire balance/rotation and the general manager pointed out that the from wheel was cracked badly from inside all the way to the front edge. He mentioned that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. We took this vehicle to the dealer service again and mentioned exactly what we were told by the gm of discount tire. Initially mercedes dealer service refused to replace the wheel thinking that we might have hit the wheels. Luckily, there was not a single scratch on any four of the wheels proving it was a bad wheel and dealer had to replace the wheel.

We have taken this vehicle to the dealer service numerous time complaining some weird noise coming from the left front side of the vehicle and a bumpy ride. Left vehicle with dealer service at least 8 times for the same problem but never fixed. Right before my warranty expired in December 2012; I took it back to the dealer for the same issue and asked them to completely inspect the vehicle for any problems needing repair before the warranty expires. The dealer service found no issues and were not able to resolve the issue of bumpy ride; asked us to replace tires (we were told the same 3 times previously and we replaced tires each time but never fixed the problem) and we replace all four tires the fourth time in 4 years. Picked up the car and noticed no of the issues were resolved; and the warranty eventually expired. Took it back to the dealer for maintenance and they gave mean an estimate of around $1800 for bad left-front strut. They advised me that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle is still at the dealer workshop.
