1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2025

On August 17, 2025 I rearended a vehicle in front of me who jammed on their brakes for no apparent reason. We were the only two vehicles in the area. Upon impact, the following airbags deployed. . . . Steering wheel, driver knee airbag. I sustained injuries to my lower extremities from the exploded knee airbag which contained metal components that impaled my skin. I continue to receive treatment for multiple injuries and the wounds that have not healed. My safety was at risk due to the metal components (shrapnel) deployed via the exploded knee airbag. I also sustained injuries my left wrist from the steering wheel airbag, and my left chest from the tightening of the seatbelt. The local Mercedes Benz dealer recently towed the vehicle from my home address to their facility for inspection of said airbags. As of today, I have not received any report from mbusa.

2 Air Bag problem

The component or system failed or malfunctioned: brake pedal -does not brake effectively engine :alternator/ignition-the car would not start on me cigarette lighter: front cigarette lighter does not work (greater fuse or electrical problem inspection: car was returned to hawthorne auto square for repair and ultimately returned and sale of the used car was cancelled due to these issues. Please inspect car at hawthorne auto square 11646 prairie Ave, hawthorne, CA 90250. Please do not allow hawthorne auto square to resell this car it is a hazard to all safety of myself and others were put at risk: - when attempting to brake, the car does not stop in a safe distance (dangerous can cause car crash) ( this happens to many glk 250s) -the car is not starting after being started(dangerous if driving and cuts off in traffic and causes accident) air bag disabled -light coming on in car( if airbags that dont work someone could die) -electrical wire-there is a loose electrical wire in the trunk of the car that could shock someone cigarette lighter- front cigarette lighter does not work ( this happens to many glk 250s) axle- appeared faulty -causing the car to wobble( this happens to many glk 250s) -car has problem and has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center -car has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure I noticed the problems around 3/30/2022 in addition: Mercedes Benz all glk 250s need; advanced driver assistance systems , lane departure and advanced emergency braking system (aebs).

Postcards sent to me said dealer had parts. Made appointment online with detail that this was for airbags, went in, and was told they didn't have. Repeated requests for assistance from dealer -- no response.

Takata recall manufacturer recall numbers 2018030010 and 2018030011 NHTSA recall numbers 17v017 and 16v081 I called mercedes of tucson, az to schedule an appointment to address the open recalls on my vehicle. I was told by the service person with whom I spoke that my airbags could be ordered and I could be scheduled to address the recalls the first week of April 2019; however, I had to call her back to provide my VIN so she could verify the recalls. When I called back and provided my VIN, I spoke with a different person and she informed me that there were no open recalls, which was completely false. I told her that I wanted something in writing that there were no open recalls, because that conflicted with the safety recall notice I received in 2018, and the recall information for the VIN on nhtsas website, which I had just verified. She said she would ask management about getting something in writing for me. A client relations rep called me after that discussion to confirm I did have two open recalls. She further informed me that parts are unavailable until September 2019, and they can't even order parts until then; there is no order queue. My first concern is that their people are giving false information regarding a potentially deadly recall notice (I. E. Stating there are no open recalls). The client relations person explained that they have two parts people who are new, and one of them seemingly "verified" there were no open recalls. The fact that whichever one verified the recalls is new is irrelevant. They need to update their process and system, as I was told the verification was done in their system, not nhtsas website. Secondly, given the amount of time that has elapsed since the initial recall, I have to wait an additional six months for repair, and the parts may not even be available then, I was told. That is unacceptable.

Takata recall I was first notified of this recall (NHTSA #16v081) in 2016 and have received a number of mailers in the mail through the years. It is now 2019 and I've since moved to three different states since and there is yet to be a remedy. Every time I take the car in to be serviced I have asked when the fix could be completed but am always told it is not yet known. So I've been driving a potentially dangerous vehicle for going on 3 years with no fix in sight. All I would like to know is when I can expect a fix.

They said they are working on other models and stating that they do not have the parts for my vehicle. Talking tomercedes and a vast mailings I received over the past 2 years. Mercedes is telling me there are no replacements for the air bags. I have been patient and they now are saying it might be another 2 years to resolve. I asked if I traded car into mercedes. They said they do not want the car because of recall and would wholesale. At this point I am at a loss. Mercedes does not have the consumers safety in mind. They can not insure that air bag will not cause injury.

I called to inquire about the airbag recall and the rep that answered the phone said, they were not doing the year of my car right now, and that I can call back to see when they are. I asked so, am I suppose to just keep driving the car until, I hear from you all, the lady said, I'm not sure that is up to you. I have tried taking the car twice and I was told they don't have the parts yet, so I don't know what else to do. (not sure of exact date of this conversation).

It is not acceptable the company responsible for these faulty airbags has yet to replace them. Rather we (consumer's) have to drive at risk or sale our vehicle in order to ensure safety. I understand it is a financial issue with a suit, however I am registering my official complaint.

Takata recall: I've notified the facility since receiving the recall letter but has not received a call or notice to bring the vehicle in for repair. After receiving this notice I called again and was told that the parts were still not available and they were unsure when they would be available but when they were available I would be notified. No current accidents to report but I would rather prevent one than have one.

Called the dealer (contemporary motorcar - erie, PA. ) several times and the answer I got was, the kit is not available. Called today and talked with [xxx]. He informed me that their is nothing they can do because it is not an official recall. He further stated that no mercedes has ever had a problem with the air bags.
