My 2013 Glk350 was stationary and I was parked in my parents driveway in illinois. It was nighttime and I went to go close the panoramic roof since I was going inside and it was lightly raining. Temps outside were mild since it was may 27, 2016. When I went to close the roof I heard a crunch sound but did not notice it was shattered. I closed the sun blind and it wasn't until I opened the blind the next time may 28, 2016. My sister and I both looked up and noticed the glass was shattered. The rest of my family also noted the damage also and we took included pictures. I called mb USA at 800 367. 6372. Adam the rep I spoke to said I needed to take it to the dealership to see if it's part of a recall but when they looked it up there was no recall for my VIN?? I followed up with vanessa at the 800 and she said the same that svc guy did at dealership. I escalated my complaint for resolution, no objects or rocks, etc came in contact with the glass and the track was clear of debris. I looked on internet and noted several similar incidents of the glass shattering and some with glass exploding out or imploding??! mb is not claiming responsibility which I do not understand! I have escalated again and I am still waiting to connect with mb USA to discuss since this is clearly a defect. It doesn't matter whether you're stationary or moving this is a serious hazard. I had to get this repaired and cost me upwards of $1600 out of pocket. . But has cost up to $2k per incident. Come to find out this is not only happening to other car models and so far there are complains filed against kia and Nissan.

My wife was driving on the interstate at ~65mph in her new 2015 Glk350 w/ panoramic & 4matic & ~7000 miles. It was 7:00pm in very light traffic. No one was near her at the time of incident. She heard a very loud starling bang. At first she thought a tire had blown. She then heard faint crackling noise above her head. The sun shade was closed so no glass dropped into the cabin area. Within minutes she noticed that the sunroof had shattered. Noteworthy point, the sunroof glass was broken convex. So, it was slightly pouched upward, which we thought was unusual. I taped the sunroof and brought it to the local dealer the next day. The dealer said she hit something and that's what caused the issue. I mentioned that their was no one else around and their were lots of internet reports with similar problems. He said you can find anything on the internet. My cost to replace sunroof was $2500 using my insurance, or $1500 with a discount if I was paying for it myself. I'm not sure why there was 2 different prices. After researching the safercar. Gov site, I found approx. 9 cases of late model mercedes with a very similar issues. There's also numerous articles and news stories including other car manufacturers on the net with the same sunroof issues. There is a safety issue here.

The sunroof on my 2013 Mercedes Benz glk 350 spontaneously exploded with no warning. Nothing hit the roof or any other part of the car. The weather was about 36 degrees farenheit, not too cold, not too hot. There was a loud bang (like the sound of a gunshot) followed by 5 - 10 minutes of crackling as the sunroof glass broke into hundreds of pieces. It appears to be the top layer of double-paned glass, as the glass did not fall into the car. I was driving about 35 mph at the time. There was nothing unusual that would have caused this.
Car c 300. Did not see that option. Also tires original michelin unknown info. Multiple interior trim and seat repairs. Problem with power folding mirrors getting stuck or creaking. Multiple visits for repair of tire light issues. Was originally told it would come on during hot/cold days. Upon review after multiple issues, tires x 2 replaced before 15k miles. Continues problems. Countless review by 3 dealerships. Was told due to cosmetic issues on rims. B3 maintenance done @ $500. Told again to ck tires due to light. Had another set of tires placed around 40k in. May 2010. For b3 told lt back tire needed replacing. Went back to tire shop who said both needed to be replaced, and rims. Was told by mercedes rims not necessary. After a few weeks tire light back on and left back losing air rapidly. Mercedes roadside assistance called. Found lg crack back l wheel. Spare placed. Another independent car care reviewed all wheels. Found another cracked wheel back right and two low spots front. Took back to mercedes alex rodriguez, who stated front were fine by visual only, and back right needed cosmetic outer which they covered. Gave car back after having 8 days for cosmetic work. Unable to tell me if diagnostics were performed. Nothing in paperwork. Would not let me wait until information was verified. Drove approximately 20 miles on hwy and car began to rattle. Had boyfriend look @ car. Found wheel cover wasn't there; also two air covers missing and two loosely fastened. Called dealer to come pick up vehicle for another review.
