Power Train Problems of Mercedes Benz GLK350

Hello. Since I bought this car in 2015. Every now and again it will go into park when driving and tge car will stop suddenly. It has done it a few times over the years and it’s quite scary. Mercedes has put me off on you, without addressing the situation or looking at the car, unless I pay first it. I think there is a mechanical defect on this car and it is quite dangerous.

Vehicle is a 4 wheel drive SUV, having the mercedes-benz "4matic" drivetrain, has it's center differential planetary gearset (with integral clutch pack) in failure. Mercedes is clearly aware that this is a drivetrain component that fails prematurely as there is a technical service bulletin (li28. 00-p-051499) that provides methodology for diagnosing the failure for 4matic equipped vehicles from 2003 to 2016, specifically listing 83 different 4matic equipped vehicles. Particular caution is called out as to special lubrication required prior to assembling the component into the drive train. Very likely that the root cause of the widespread failures was the part not being installed correctly. Though the failure evidences initially by front wheel vibrations and shuddering at low speed, it is a latent serious safety issue in that the component could fail catastrophically when stressed, I. E. , hard acceleration when merging onto a highway, at best causing a sudden imbalance in front/rear propulsion resulting in an affected vehicle compromised in its steering, or at worst locking up front or rear wheels resulting in a spin out. Mercedes has replaced this equipment under warranty for an unknown number of vehicles, but refuses to acknowledge how widespread the problem is. Mercedes customer assistance says "no recall' so refuses to address the issue and flatly told me to take it up with the NHTSA. Public safety dictates that all affected vehicles need to be inspected for the failure and these defective components replaced as a recall.

When the car ids in drive, it at time hesitate to engae and also drag when the transmission change or whne it is give gas. This leads to drag from the rear wheels and vibrations. It happens also wheel one slows and wants to increase speed. Whne the car was about one yea old, I notice this a few times and complained - I was told they did not notice anything like that. But it happened oens in a while. But now it is every day occurence - more frequenlty since December 2022.

My car started making a funny sound above the right tire on the way to my hair apt on March 13, 2023. On the drive home from the appointment, my front axle came off in the middle of the expressway at 9:30 pm on 1-10 in houston, texas. I was so scared that I was going to die. Cars were coming so fast and swerving all around me. I turned on my emergency flashers and called 911 immediately. I don't think that I have ever felt so helpless and panicked in my entire life. By the grace of god, I was not hit and tow trucks came within 10-15 minutes. They told me that most people get hit and that I was lucky to not be hit at 80 miles per hour at a dead standstill. We towed my car to the nearest repair shop where they confirmed that the plastic u-clamps had deteriorated which caused the front axle to become detached. Insurance would not cover it. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that mercedes had recalled over 38,000 small suvs for the exact same issue, but that my mercedes was not a part of the recall. When I filed the complaint with mercedes, they said that they would not cover the cost to repair it because my vehicle was not a part of the recall. I don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else ever. I believe that mercedes is aware of this issue and does not want to take responsibility.

My car goes abruptly into park while driving or reversing at 5 mph or less. This is a big safety concern if it ever suddenly stalls in a highway, I may get into a life threatening accident. There are no warning or sensor lights that light up when this happens. I have taken it to the Mercedes Benz dealer who said it was a shift module error which I paid to fix and not even two weeks later the same problem persisted.

The key is not recognized in the electronic ignition switch, the vehicle cannot be started and/or the automatic transmission may go into park at speeds below 6 km/h.

Problem accused suddenly with front axel . Call as many deal - used car repair centers they are surprised with the result never heard a mercedes to have this kind of issue specially 2007 auto gl350 . They were made very solid not soppiest to gcreate any issue . Even so I have extended used car repair warranty from the used car dealer where I bought the warranty from . All the dealer don't way to deal with the warranty repair . They want the money first then I should request the cost from the warranty company but that does not make sense . Seems like no regulation body to regulate the car warranty companies . Very disappointing how they work . Cost would be about 3k to 4-5 k hope to hear from anyone can help ! Tl the contact owns a 2012 mercedes-benz Glk350. While driving 30 mph, the drive train failed and there was a temporary loss of power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and had it towed to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the drive train was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was partially repaired and an appointment was scheduled to complete the repair. A dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,008.

The car puts itself into automatic "park" mode when slowing down, applying brakes and speed drops below 7 mph. 9 instances have happened, once in reverse. The temperature of car not an issue, this occurred whether using key fob inserted to start car or using push button. Dealer bulletin li54. 25-p-056472 addresses issue but not covered by manufacturer. Last occurrence 6/7/2018.

Takata inflators have not been repaired told by dealers that these airbags are dangerous and could cause severe injury to passengers. Tork control unit or transmission is not functioning properly faulty trans on the car per dealer has not been repaired told there was several 2011 glk 350 with this concern mercedes is to repair but has not. Car in motion when occurs.

When I'm driving the car, the car will automatically shifts from d(drive) to p(park). It happens especially when I hit the brake. I went to dealer for the same issue twice, and it seems they still cannot find the problem and fix it. This is a life-threatening issue. Just image the car stops immediately at the middle of highway. We are lucky not hit by the car behind us. It happened twice on highway I-70.

After only 7 years of owning the 2010 mb glk 350, both the engine mounts and transmission mounts needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $3000. 00 at the dealership. The car has less than 50,000 miles on it, mostly city driving. This can present a safety hazard if you are driving your vehicle in high speeds; the engine may shift and bounce about so violently that various parts will fly off. Condition mostly seen in high mileage cars.

I noticed since Monday the 20th of January, the car while driving forward would suddenly go into reverse making a grinding sound. This happened twice in traffic and, could be dangerous if it had happened in an intersection. In addition to this malfunction, it quite often slips into neutral when I slowed for any reason; like, to give way or preparing to go into a parking space. These malfunctions could be dangerous and, may very well cause major accidents if not corrected.
