Transmission Stuck In Gear Problems of Mercedes Benz ML320

The contact owns a 1999 Mercedes Benz Ml320. While parked, the contact attempted to move the gear shifter from park but the shifter remained stuck in park. The failure recurred intermittently and after waiting a few minutes, the contact would be able to move the gear shifter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

: the contact stated the vehicle had repeated problems with the brake assistance system. The problem presented itself by the illumination of the dashboard warning light. The vehicle was taken in seven times for service on the brake assistance system. The vehicle also had problems with the transmission. When the vehicle was parked, shut off, and restarted later, the gearshift became stuck in the park position. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, and the dealer temporarily repaired both issues. The dealer determined that the two problems were related.

Transmission keeps getting stuck in 3rd gear. When I take it to be serviced, they would initially tell me no computer errors were showing. A couple times later I drove to the dealer with it stuck in third, allowing them to drive it that way. When this occurred I was in the left lane and was unable to accelerate causing the vehicle behind me to nearly rear end us. This continues to happen but very sporadically and the dealer has unsuccessfully been able to repair. Their response now is they are not able to duplicate. This is a serious problem.
