Blind Spot Detection Problems of Mercedes Benz ML350

In mid-trip as we were going down the highway went to change lanes and the turn signals were no longer functioning. No errors, no alerts, no warnings they just stopped working. After pulling over and turning off the vehicle and turning back on they work for a time then stop working again. After researching with other owners of these and similar model Mercedes Benz vehicles this is a prevalent and highly dangerous safety issue that many many others have experienced.

The contact owns a 2014 mercedes-benz Ml350. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the blind spot warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to identify if another vehicle was nearby. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the blind spot detection system was inoperative. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 170,001.

I purchased a used mercedes-benz from freehold Mitsubishi in early 2024. Within hours, serious safety issues appeared, including a check engine light, cylinder misfire, evap leak, traction control failure, and blind spot assist malfunction. The vehicle’s ecm and wiring harness were later found damaged due to oil leaks and electrical shorts. Despite multiple repair attempts, the vehicle was returned in worse condition and remains unsafe to drive. I am reporting these issues due to their potential risk to vehicle safety.

The driver's seat belt is locked and the retractor is not working without any reason. The front adaptive cruise control radar is also not working, along with the crucial blind spot sensor. Because of this, the vehicle cruise control (even without adaptive mode) is not working at all. This is a big safety issue and it is illegal to even drive this car without the seat belt working.

Started to have an issue with the blind spot assist showing inoperable. Shortly after depending on the outside temperature the ac would start shutting off and on. The days the temperature was above 95 degrees the ac would suddenly stop working. Took the vehicle to the dealer for ac service. Dealer reports the engine "back" wiring harness had been rubbing, exposing and chaffing the harness wires, and for safety concerns a complete harness replacement is necessary. When asked how was this possible since the harness clearance is a manufacture design. Was told it happens on these vehicles and currently there is no recall.

Both the front distronic system,which controls adaptive cruise control and emergency braking, and the blind spot warning have failed. Failure of both systems is usually caused by water getting into the respective control units related to poor sealing allowing water to enter and causing the systems to fail. I believe that these systems are critical to vehicle safety. The pre safe braking is essential to the safe operation of the vehicle. Blind spot warning failure is also a safety item on vehicles like these with large blind spot areas. Dealer has been no help other than repairs costing almost as much as the vehicle is worth. Very poor design and unsafe when these critical systems fail.

Blind spot inoperative message appeared while driving. Upon doing diagnosis with obdii tester a fault was found with the left rear radar unit. There seem to be many social media accounts of these units failing due to water intrusion from apparently poor or defective water sealing. The following has been happening over the last 2 - 3 yrs. Also confirmed with other customers on mb world blog site. After traveling in the car for 5-15 minutes, and sooner if connected to cell phone via bluetooth, the indicators stop working. This leads to deactivation of the blind spot assist as well. The problem is temporarily resolved after switching the vehicle off and then on again, only to recur after driving it again for 10-15minutes, and earlier if attached to iphone via bluetooth. The blind spot assist is then permanently inactivated. 2 mercedes dealerships in 2 separate states where I took the vehicle could not even identify a problem, let alone resolve it. When I called mbusa, they claimed ignorance to the issue and told me to repair or change the vehicle myself. Since this is an issue with multiple vehicles, a recall needs to be issued for this model. It’s unknown how many collisions can be attributed to this since the problem has not been acknowledged by mercedes’. The problem has occurred almost everyday over the last 3 years. I have narrowly missed being involved in collisions because of the inactivation of blind spot assist and changing lanes. I have almost been rear ended a bunch of times because of the indicators getting inactivated. All this has happened with my family traveling me with. Please lets not wait for loss of life before a recall is initiated. Thank you.

3 electrical related issues within a few months. 1. Blind spot and lane departure warning come on and off while driving. 2. Blind spot yellow light comes on the side mirrors while applying break 3. This week the turn signal periodically stop working and each time have to stop kill engine and start engine again to reset but reset only last for a while.

When I first purchased the Ml350 in texas, the vehicle already showed warning messages (“blind spot assist inoperative / pre-safe function limited”). The dealer attempted repairs before delivery, but the defect persisted. After moving to new york, the problem continued. On June 26, 2023, I took the vehicle to the automaster mercedes-benz in shelburne, vt. Their diagnosis confirmed water intrusion into the blind spot radar sensors, consistent with mercedes-benz TSB li54. 71-p-056477. Both left and right sensors and wiring require replacement. This is a safety defect because blind spot assist and pre-safe features are disabled without warning, increasing risk of collision when changing lanes. Many other owners have reported the same issue, and mercedes has issued a TSB acknowledging the defect, but no recall has been provided. I request that NHTSA investigate this recurring safety problem and require mercedes-benz to provide coverage or a recall for affected vehicles.
